Definitely wrong there....!
Add a turbo, and you will get the high pitch 'whistling' plus the sound of dump-valves.
Add a sports manifold and titanium race exhaust, and you get a much more hollow sound...
But just try out for your self...
Take any car, buy all possible parts, and take it for a practice-spin on a track, then change config... Then you will know 👍
Yes, adding some tuning parts can change how the car's noise will be. For examples:
Exhausts: Adding Racing Exhausts is known to really muffle the exhaust notes and make it sound like a silent hair dryer. However this doesn't apply on every car.
Turbochargers: Depending on the chosen stage, the car will start to produce a whistle-like tone when it reaches the turbocharger's specified RPMs. You'll also hear a blowoff valve (BOV), like what Mikael said.
Fully Customizable Transmission: Due to the straight-cut gears, it'll always produce a quite loud and sharp screaming from the front of the car. This will most likely drown out all other sounds other than the exhaust notes.
My LFA changed it's tuned after I did some exhaust and transmission upgrades, it just sounded like every other race car I have, so I removed some of the upgrades to keep the awesome sound of the LFA
In drifting online, where the tunning is more free and personal, if i run in a car barely stock (specialy without engine upgrades, and a racing muffler) i almost can´t hear my own car... so go figure...
