Don Panoz ruined our eyes

Remember that time when everyone said they wanted a four-seat roadgoing DeltaWing? Neither can I. However, Don Panoz heard some of these cries, and unveiled this not very nice CAD model of a potential design this morning:

It's unlikely to reach production anytime soon, but DeltaWing Technologies have said they are willing to share the design and platform with other manufacturers.*

ew.... I liked that other one better. This is just... like a Corvette got smashed in the front.
 
Yeesh. The race car isn't exactly flattering in design, but this makes it look like a masterpiece out of Italy. Thought Panoz had said they were going to focus on building the Esperante again with a couple models based on the GT racing cars (according to the Leno's Garage episode).
 
Don't like where the lights are. And its just ugly.

This is what happens when you try to force a concept that worked on one platform onto another one. Just doesn't work.

Now that actually works and it actually looks cool. Perhaps more Nissan Juke Funky kind of cool as opposed to Supercar cool, but its Waaaay better then the crap Don Panoz is so badly trying to push. Honestly, he should just stick to his first company making those good looking Panoz cars (Except for the Abruzzi) and not that hideous mess.
 
I didnt think there could be anything uglier than the racecar Deltawing. I was wrong. My eyes burn.
 
I love the Deltawing. Excellent concept, quirky but in a very retro-futuristic way.

This is appalling. Everything in the proportions is wrong. Maybe lowering it, closing up the wheel gaps and putting some meatier rubber on would do.

To each their own, I suppose. Must be an acquired taste because it looks meh, drives meh, sounds meh, and is all around bleeeh to me.

Looks are subjective; the concept isn't - it proved itself to work. It proved that radical aero + low power engine = standard prototype aero + standard prototype engine. It represents an important step that internal combustion motorsport must face in its twilight years, and it worked completely as intended. It only leaves a sour taste because of how few results it has for how competitive a car it actually has been - if it didn't have a gearbox made out of compost and just generally wasn't a bad luck magnet, it could've had some high profile wins and podium finishes by now. It easily had the pace to walk the Rolex 24 field this year.

In no part of its attribution to actually work is from it's aero, but rather its weight.
The Deltawing weighed less than half of what the regulations are for the LMP2 machines.
 
I can't believe this ugly piece of **** is going to possibly be in the GTLM class next year... :crazy:
 
It's joint weight and joint aero. They go hand in hand. Vastly reducing the frontal surface area and trying to generate all the downforce at the rear end of the car (which needed refining a lot in the final iterations because it operates in a narrow window of balance) gave it a far lower Cd, and the lower weight that comes through downsizing so drastically gives the edge on the mileage. A very basic concept executed in an extreme way, but not a car that should be forgotten.

This thing errs more on the gimmick side than anything else.

UUUUUmmmm... well... that's surprisingly difficult. Never thought I would see a car that makes me consider owning a Prius though...
