As I said, don't forget to back up, online or on a USB. I never did and PS3 packed up.
Lost everything, had every premium car (except a few Nascars) and about 300 of the best standards, almost all maximum tuned. Countless hours of grinding, level 40 in b spec (all done myself), 36 in A, and about 10m in the bank
PS3 hard drives aren't very compatable with anything else, so if your ps3 dies, it's basically impossible to get data off it. GT5 is probably the game you put most hours into, so if you've never backed up, do it now! I assumed I could get stuff off the hard drive :dunce:! (Most people probably know that )
At least I start off with the DLC cars I bought before :), don't have to chose between a Fiat Punto and an MX5 :nervous:

Thank you for another warning on why I should... and soon... how much GB is the file usually?

Do it next time you switch on your PS3 and stick it on your computer. Even if your PS3 goes tits up in a couple of months, you won't be starting from scratch.

Did your PS3 yellow light? There are places that fix that and you get your ps3 back with hard drive all intact.

How would I backup?
From the general utility from ps3 menu or just copying the current gt5 saved data file?

This website explains it well and should help you.

An easy way to backup:

Get Playstation Plus. Sure, you pay for it. It's $50 (US) for 12 months, you get loads of discounts and free stuff. I think I've downloaded and been discounted a combined $100 worth of stuff (not including the welcome back program for the PSN outage). The recent GT5 DLC for Plus users was discounted, for example. (Complete Pack: $8.99 versus $11.99) And, no... I'm not a troll for this, I just love it!

This system has a "cloud" backup that, when setup, automatically saves the files you choose on a daily basis (if you've finished it). My PS3 will automatically turn on at 4AM and back up my daily saved GT5 data, then turn itself off at 6AM. You can re-upload from the cloud once a day (I think, I've never needed to do more). You can also manually save it, but this automatic process makes it a set-it-and-forget-it deal. Another useful addition: If you have games that need patches and you've setup that game for the auto-update, it will download it for you in the early AM, whether that game is in your PS3 or not! (I haven't played TDU2 in like 2 months and it updated the latest patch 2-3 weeks ago).

Only a fool would not backup their game. All it takes is a cheap flash drive so there's excuse except for being lazy or ignorant. I have no sympathy for those that don't.

Don't forget not everyone has had their ps3 fail. It does have the industrial standard for realiability. Yes it does have a good track record, but not perfect. Have a heart and show some respect.

I'm ignorant because I'm smart enough to backup my game knowing that hard drives fail, data gets corrupted, etc as opposed to those that don't and then cry about it because they lost all their data. You make no sense whatsoever.

You're a douche because you saying everyone who doesn't backup their game is ignorant. Does it make sense now?

Can't remind people enough to back up.

Always used to, then my PS3 fat broke. Had it repaired and just restored the data from a few days previous.

Then used my newly repaired and unbreakable PS3 for 3 months. Broke again, bought a slim. Hadn't backed up since the previous repair. Was on level 40 but only had the backup data from level 37. Not too bad, but my own stupidity not to have backed up after the repair.

No, we're trying to help the OP. Smart comments for a serious question doesn't really help:
Have a heart and show some respect.

I hope the OP and other users can use some of the helpful tips/options.

Hey this guy never went angry or started a thread swearing at everyone, he just told his story then gave others a reminder. He wasn't 'crying' about it at all.
Saying people are stupid not to back up their game saves makes you sound like an 🤬. I know 🤬 all about computers and I need friendly reminders like this to help me out. You can call me stupid all you want but not everyone has even a basic knowledge of computers or the problems and malfunctions that may arise.
I think you have a major attitude problem and you seriously need help. Take a look at your life and learn to treat people with respect - over the Internet or in real life.

Your a douche because you can't read. I said LAZY OR IGNORANT because there is really no other excuse. Sorry, but I'm not sugar coating it.

I haven't done a backup in a while. Gotta get on this.

Sorry for being ignorant and asking questions....
Will any flash drive work? Ive got a couple of 32 gigs and I could make sure that I use one only for my PS3.
Again, sorry to be ignorant for asking.......

LOL, whatever. Not gonna argue with you about it. I gave my opinion about the situation so just deal with it.

Yes, just about any USB compatible stick will. Most anything purchased in the last 3 years. 32GB is sometimes enough for a complete PS3 backup, let alone file saves.

LOL, whatever. I'm not even going to argue with you, either. I just gave my opinion as a response about your opinion which I thought contained unnecessary negative dialogue. So just deal with it.

I'm living life on the edge, never going to back it up.
But don't worry, i'm not going to make a thread once i lose it all.

And in more then one spot. My friend had a bad save on his USB as well as his ps3. He ended up having to use a save from before 2.0 that was on his pc to get what he could back. Now I have a save on a usb, pc hard drive, and a Sd card. Hopefuly I will never need them. :

Hopefully they're not all duplicates of the same save, as I imagine they're not. That's happened to me once for a different game- duplicating a save that was corrupted and I didn't know it.

Wasn't the ylod, some hardware error during a software update. Googled it and the opinion was that it was the blu ray connection to the mother board which breaks easily doing a ylod fix. I never did a ylod fix, so opinion was to send it to Sony. At a cost of 200 quid! It's a 80 gig fat, got a 320gig slim for almost that price!

Yeah, no harm to drop the back up file in a few places.

And to the unhelpful smart arses (you know who you are) the thread was a reminded to people to back up, and a few will after reading it.

On my reply I was just explaining to you what ENTERSANDMAN13 was saying and that you completly misunderstood. And now you misundertood my reply...

"And the next two runner-ups for this week's 'Banned User Log' go to..."

Anyway, I've heard rumors that Sony prevented GT5 back-up gamesaves from working because they're supposedly forcing us to us Playstation Plus's online could-save system. Is this true?

Been doing it since the game came out, not worried about losing anything.
