I know i can probably unsubscribe from them (which i'm gonna try do after i post this), but i've purposely been avoiding all GT news sources (haven't looked in the Gran Turismo forums here at all this year) so that when GT5
comes out i'll be surprised by a lot of things - at present i already know a couple of things about it which i would have preferred to find out when i got the game...

Are you serious about this? I'm having a hard time defining any news about the GT series as a "spoiler", which typically implies some type of plot or story twist which can be "ruined". Anyway, this was a major announcement that I wanted to email the community about, and I'm certainly going to tell them the reason why I felt it was so important to contact our users. "Big news - visit the site to find out what it is!" would be a pretty shady looking email message.
