A lot of people now think "rappers" like lil' wayne and drake are what hip-hop is all about. This couldn't be more wrong. I don't see any love for hip-hop on this forum so I figured I would start a thread about it. Here are some of my favorites from different rappers who I consider the best. If you don't like these songs either you just don't like the genre in general or you can't relate to the lyrics, because all these rappers were/are overflowing with talent.

So whats your favoerite rap songs/rappers? Post some maybe we can all learn about some new artists!

Pretty sure that was a shot at the thread so I will just say 3 of the songs I posted were made in the golden days of hip-hop and the 4th was made by an underground artist.

How can a band with millions of listeners be considered underground? I must be listening to undergrounds basement then.

I consider Rakim the best MC ever. I was lucky to grow up in the golden era of rap (I am 40 now) , and still listen to It but having hard times finding MC's these days that I like. I usually listen to my old collection and am happy some of these guys still do their thing. I recently went to a KRS ONE show, and It was awesome.

My favourites;

Rakim
Ganstarr (and premier)/ Jeru
Public Enemy
Geto Boys (especially Scarface)
KRS
Masta Ace
Black Moon (Buckshot)
NAS

The list would be too long. As you can see, all these MC's or groups are a little longer in the game. If someone can direct me to the names of todays rappers that probably would appeal to me, please do.

Great thread !!

Nothing will come close, my favorite rapper still rapping right now is Immortal Technique, the 4th youtube link in my post will take you to one of his songs. He doesn't have too good of a flow but he is lyrical as hell. Just listen to the lyrics in the "Industrial Revolution" song, it'll blow your mind.

Haha. Mastashake15: Biggie and Tupac are hardly the Golden Age, m'man. ;)

I'm in the same boat as Minardi; I'm an older cat, so what I'd consider the "Golden Age" is probably a little different than what you'd refer to.

@ Minardi: Mastashake's recommendation of Immortal Technique is legit. Dude comes spittin' FIRE. MUCH respect for Tech.

You might also like the following:

Jedi Mind Tricks
Haiku d'Etat
Freestyle Fellowship
Aceyalone
Sage Francis (who is now signed to the Road Runner label)

I enjoy hip-hop, just as I enjoy a wide array of musical genres. There is alot of it that's crap, but all genre's have their share of garbage. Unfortunately, this crap is what everybody thinks represents the genre, so that's why so many people write the genre off as "not being real music." But there are some great hip-hop acts that deserve a listen just as much as any rock band. If you've written off hip-hop, I would recommend giving it another chance. It isn't all Lil Wayne and Soulja Boi.

This project is about as much of hip hop I touch on any consistency. I love the lyrics and the jab at modern radio.

I respect that a lot of these people grew up in hard time and they rap about it but I'm so sick of the gangster attitude that I can't listen to it.

Goldie Lookin Chain.. safe as 🤬

A quick flick through my collection and I have:

Beastie Boys
Cypress Hill
Deftones
Eminem
House of Pain
Limp Bizkit
Massive Attack
Morcheeba
The Prodigy
Rage Against the Machine
The Sugarhill Gang
Team Sleep

..Who if not exclusively Hip-Hip then it's definitely a part of their sound and style.

Right now I am listening lots and lots of Living Legends currently
But my all time favorite hip hop group have got to be The Roots. New and old stuff still beautiful.

and of course cant forget Nujabes

RIP Jun Seba

My favorite of all time is ma$e. If he never left he would be up there with jayz and eminem today and in my opinion top 5 of all time

Nujabes was the producer, the hiphop artist he works with is sometimes Shing02, Substiantal, and Cise Starr.

Ma$e, wouldn't be up there like Jay-Z and Em. But, he will be up there.
Top 5 dead or alive
