Don't you think it would be interesting if only X% of GT5 players could own a car?

Well, i was thinking about cars that haven't been mass produced; i thought of Lamborghini Reventon. Then i thought, what if only a certain amount of GT5 players could own a particular car at any given time? E.g only 2% of GT5 players could own a Reventon. i haven't really haven't thought of the logistics of it so to speak.

Clearly you havnt played mmo's... this is a terrible idea as all the major hardcores would play the game everyday 24h a day (ok so im being alittle silly) and unlock the best cars. Leaving the junk for the masses. TERRIBLE idea, especially when the point of games like this is to own the cars that you normally never could.

I agree with cicohipe, a game should simulate some aspects of reality but not all the disadvantages, thats one of the reasons we play games, isnt it?

I would like an online used market.\

edit: (where a car can only cost a maximum of the sum of its parts)

+1

No offence but I think OP is one of the worst ideas I've heard in my life

Sorry, but this is realism taken too far, logistically you could offer a Reventon as DLC only for, say, 100+ dollars and only the people rich enough IRL would be able to purchase it like IRL.
But this is not where i would like to see GT going, and i strongly believe i'm not in the minority.

Not a good idea if you asked me.

I would prefer a system where it is difficult/more expensive to earn cars. And for carrer mode I would appreciate if PD won't give out cars like they're McDonalds coupons...Forza does that and it breaks up the experience to collect cars a little. I mean we talk about the Reventon...you recieve the car as a gift in Forza with not even passed the 50% mark in carrer mode.
Thats lame.

I want to really earn the cars. Thats what makes up the experience imo.

That's a far better idea than bloodstriker suggested, so everyone gets to own the best cars but only if they earn it!

^^^ What AgentK says. I hated it that you get dozens of expensive supercars in Forza. Maybe a few, after completing a tough challenge, but other ths that I don't want to win cars. I'd like to really earn and buy them.

I like the idea, but what if you want the reventon like your own example....
And you cant get it any more :P...
You will be angry and mail GT5 if their can put that limited car system away ;)

I agree, GT however usually gifts you odd concepts you don't normally drive and GT made up race cars (like the GTR and 350Z race cars in GT4) rather than the desirable cars, atleast towards the first half of the GT mode races anyway.

I would like GT5 to have some models quite hard to get like the Model T in GT4 (all license golds) this is how I would make some models "limited". Then again, not too many because I would hate to have to get 100% (for example) before getting my hands on a Diablo. :p

OK, I'll have the best and you can have rest, how does that sound? Clearly you have not through this through, because it's a terrible idea! Imagine going to the Lamborghini section to buy that Reventon you have been saving up for, only to find that you can't buy it because they already sold the allocated 20 that are available to the public (you want it like real life, yeah?). Let's say they made it unrealistic, and they made 2000 available for sale in GT5...that's still a pathetic number when all we are are talking about is a virtual car.

Nope, I think the rare, exotic cars only need to be "exclusive" by virtue of their asking price. If you want an Enzo or a Veyron or whatever, you are going to have to race lots and save up, or trade if that's an option in the game.

I wouldn't mind if they kept back a few special cars for winning an online race, but not just any race, say a special event like 30 lap endurance around deep forest. You could win the GTR Black Mask. This maybe a good example of the type of cars only available to you if you win a special event type race online, it would be nice car to get but as it's a prototype the production car would still be available to buy in the showroom so know one misses out to badly if they aren't into online or can't manage to win or whatever, and when you race it in other online events people in the know could tell you have been an online endurance race winner.

Let me think... No thank you. I don't want GT to become a sort of a WOW with no life spending 24 hours a day to get a car, let's say for example an aston martin One 77.

I'm sure there will be exclusive cars.

Like the gold crown in LittleBigPlanet, reserved only for the very best creators, handpicked by the developer.

I like this idea. Have special cars for winning an endurance race online, or for winning X amount of races online. Same thing with career, don't give out supercars unless the player wins an endurance race, or comes first in a race series, etc.
But, don't take all of the supercars out of the showroom and screw the less hardcore players :P

NO.

After Forza 3's release I looked at their game forums, and there was a petition of some sort, to unlock the premium cars (Corvette ZR1, Aston Martin DBS, F430 Scuderia etc.).

Every car should be available to every player at all times. I do agree however, that some cars should be difficult to obtain, like in past GT games, either they cost a great amount of credits or require the player to gold licenses, win difficult races/challenges etc.

No offense, but that is almost as bad as an idea as the on in the OP. If there is a paint editor you can bet I will be expecting to make a profit on that car, not break even. An auction House setup would take care of this problem since the winner can't complain about the price.

I like my games to make me work for my prizes... but I wouldn't want to pay extra for the DLC. At least... hopefully not too much extra.

Auction houses and swap meets would be nice. A good place for tuner houses to show off their wares and tunes. I can see a lot of PP freaks hawking their wares there, with specialized race-cars built for certain events. Maybe tunes can even be sold as packages instead of as built-up cars.

Maybe they could offer special paint jobs or the like for winners of online events... but to limit what you can drive solely because someone was there first? You do realize that maybe just one or two people on this board will have a vast collection of all the exotics, (you know who you are, you time attackers you... ) while the rest will be in the hands of a dozen hardcore addicts from around the world (the ones who've locked out the top ten in GT5P on most tracks...) while a few million other players sit and watch and drool.

While we're at it, let's simulate crippling monthly payments, high insurance rates for players under thirty five and outlandish service fees for clutch changes. Because owning a car in real life (which is what I initially thought this thread was about) isn't painful enough.

That isn't exactly the same, as those who paid extra for the VIP pack got those cars. Others were also entitled to them, but they didn't put their money where their mouths were. Unless of course the petition was to make them available for purchase ala DLC or something.

Forza 3 did that (VIP cars, unicorn car) and it turn out to be a mess . All it does is encourage people to use money glitch to obtain those car. So NO, it would be a terrible idea.

This may actually happen. Just do the math.

GT4= 700 cars
GT PSP= 800 cars
GT5 to have 1000 cars

Because we where told almost all cars from GT4 are going to be in GT5, and you'll be able to transfer all your GT PSP cars to GT5, it would total to about 1850ish.

So, because not all cars in GT PSP will be in GT5, when you transfer your PSP collection to GT5, you will have cars that weren't normally available in GT5.

Example: Lets say the Audi R10 TDI is in GT PSP, and you decide to transfer it to GT5. However, GT5 does not include the Audi R10 TDI (for the sake of this example). So now you have an car exclusive to (your) GT5.

There will be as many Audi R10 TDI's in GT5 as there are people who transfered it to GT5 from GT PSP, creating a limited number of them if and when PD includes an auction house or used car dealership online.

Do you follow?

I've seen this idea many times.

It's the worst thing that could possibly ever happen. I vote against it completely. There is no good reason to restrict content.

But wouldn't it be cool to know your owning something that's actually limited? It would almost be as if you where buying a real car.

Not at all. (Also applies to real life where scarcity is artificial)

It would almost be as if you where buying a real car.
No, it's like having some code on your disk unlocked, that others can't get for no reason whatsoever.

I can see how that would be quite annoying, but at the same time, I can also see how it might be rewarding as well.

I don't mean to sound close minded or argumentative, but from my point of view, there are no benefits at all.

If I got one of the exclusive cars, it would be exactly the same as owning the car if everyone had access.

If I didn't get an exclusive car, then I would never get it, and I would be missing out forever.

It's all drawbacks, in my opinion.
