I'm a big fan of these kind of films.
Any recommendations? Also, what are your favorites?

Here are a few i've seen recently and liked:
28 Days/Weeks Later (Danny Boyle)
Sunshine (Danny Boyle) - this one is a gem!
Shaun of the Dead
District 9
12 Monkeys
Day of the Dead

Here's some classics I've seen recently. They aren't exactly favourites, but I enjoyed them all (in no particular order, and surely leaving out some great ones):
The Omega Man
Soylent Green
Failsafe
Fahrenheit 451
The Andromeda Strain
On The Beach

If you liked Day of the Dead (presumably the remake?), you should definitely check out the original, and the other Romero zombie flicks. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, etc.

This one is a favourite, British TV docudrama from the 80's about nuclear annihilation. SCARY!!:
Threads

You should check out IMDB's keyword search. Then filter out the TV and video games. There's not many tagged doomsday, but there's 200-300-odd tagged with either apocalypse or dystopia.

Just don't watch The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, Armageddon, The Core, Dante's Peak, Volcano, Deep Impact or I Am Legend.

Independence Day was kind of fun, though.

Deep Impact >>> Armageddon... flawed though it is. Nice humanistic story.

Oh... we're looking for apocalyptica?

Definitely Shaun of the Dead. Loved it.

Mad Max is another one, bit dated now perhaps.

Here's some more, again in no order whatsoever:

Battle Royale
By Dawn's Early Light (TV remake of Failsafe, sorta)
Cloverfield
THX 1138
A Scanner Darkly
Equilibrium

The Island

Deep Impact >>> Armageddon... flawed though it is.
I completely agree here. Deep Impact isn't half bad. Armageddon is tripe.

Awesome replies!

@ imtheleprechaun - i saw the original and a few other of Romero's zombie flicks :D

I kinda like I am Legend until the last half of the film. Also, just saw 2012, and it was a pain! Almost 3 hours! That is one lucky family!

Never, ever, ever watch Knowing.

And Masi... sort out that sig. The AUP applies to all content you submit...

Was it as bad as "Mothman"? Or worse? (though I probably know the answer to that already...)

I Am Legend could have been great. The premise was good... they stayed fairly true to the story till the last half of the film... but it suffered from something so many Will Smith films suffer from...

execrable product placement. Like hell can I believe that so long after the rest of the populace has gone that Will Smith can basically walk into a showroom and drive a mint condition (apparently waxed and detailed, too) Ford Mustang GT out into the streets.

The rest of the movie almost manages to remove the taste of that shameless plug out of my mouth... but it was an utterly useless piece of film by itself.

And this is coming from a Ford fan.

Oh OH OH !!!! ME ME ME!!!

Johnny Mnemonic... Does that one fall into this category as well? Or maybe Strange Days.... That one was a bit better... and came out around the same time...

The Road

Based on the book by Cormac McCarthy, who also wrote No Country For Old Men, is the story of a man and his son travelling across the apocalyptic wastelands of America after an unnamed disaster has destroyed all civilisation and almost all life on the planet.

It gets good reviews and the book was fantastic but certainly not a light-hearted romp!

Strange Days wasn't post-apoc, but definitely dystopian. Great suspense thriller. Any movie with a Juliette Lewis sex scene and Angela Bassett kicking arse is going to be good.

Bump!

Saw this film yesterday 👍 Is it weird that i find a post apocalyptic world more attractive than we have today? I don't know, i guess i like the adventure. I would prefer a zombie apocalypse though 💡 weapon of choice - semi auto shotgun :dopey:

I noticed how clean the SUV was in the end of the movie too. Unless they went through a car wash or a severe down pour, that thing can't be that clean! :D

I probably liked 90% of the films listed in this thread. The Road, perhaps too scary, considering the flesh eaters are actual live humans. I did love the film though.

Day of the Dead is an awesome choice, if you mean the original. I thought the remake was total garbage. Dawn of the Dead was totally different story. I really liked the original, but I loved the remake. Ving Rhames, badass.

I recently saw two new additions to the "Dead" series(Night, Dawn, Day + Land of the Dead): Diary of the Dead & Survival of the Dead. Both are low budget, but directed by the master himself. I thought the Diary of the Dead was excellent, Survival, which I bought on Blu-ray, not so much. Survival of the Dead just came out on DVD/Blu-ray Tuesday.

I'm braindead right now, and I can't think of many recommendations. Maybe the TV Series Lost, or if you don't mind a dumb comedy flick, Eight Legged Freaks. If you like zombie flicks, it is criminal not to have seen the Return of the Dead(sucks after Part II though). Ghosts of Mars? One of my favorites, considered by many to be garbage. That's about it. I almost forgot about Infestation(really good "B" comedy flick), I also liked the remake of The Crazies. Original, not so much.

Well, if Shaun of the Dead is here, I might as well mention Zombieland. It's another zombie comedy. Not at all as hilarious, but it's light and good for a few laughs. If all else fails, you've got Woody Harrelson playing a badass and another famed actor playing himself.

Perhaps we read different books.

A lot of zombie references in here.
Most named so far I've seen

I liked 28 Weeks Later, (much better than 28 Days)

Watched Pandorum a few days ago. A different take on 'the end of the world/humanity'. Some concepts of the film seem a little odd, but still a good film for various reasons. IMO... worth watching.

I liked that one, too. It's worth a watch. 👍

Zombieland is an excellent suggestion, I had to go get it on Blu-ray, but there should've been a spoiler-alert on the cameo. That was as good as they come!

Edited my post with Kubalivre's quote, too. :)

What a teamwork.

I think it's safe to say that just about everybody loves *ahem* that guy, and I want as many viewers as possible to be pleasantly surprised by that part of the movie. Magical moments are very rare in horror movies, let alone a zombie flick(of course, it's no ordinary zombie movie!).
