As my old ps3 had the ylod i purchased a new one today and tryed transfering the data to the new console but with no joy ! hence am wonderin is it possible to download a game save? This is not the way i want to do it but i would try anything before startin from scratch !

so in a nut shell not gona happen !

what about the hair dryer trick to get the ps3 runnin to backup the data ?

If you can get your gamesave off the old ps3, stick it on the new one and use the same gamer profile, you should be sorted mate.

getting it off the old ps3 is the problem ... ive got the new ps3 setup on same gamer profile now , tryed everything with the hard drive today including an enclousure !

and now my next problem tonight is my memory stick of 2gb i doubt will be big enough , things just keep getting better

You only need the gamesave, not the whole install. Only a couple of megs.

Getting it off your old ps3 is a bit of a bugger if you can't get it working... Hairdryer trick may work. Tried that?

Couldn't you take the hard drive out of the side of the old one, and put it into your new one, then save it to an external hard drive or flash drive, put the new one back in? Or I guess if the old HD is bigger, you could leave it in the new one, but shouldn't that work? I have an old fat PS3 and only a few of my friends have the skinny ones, so I'm not 100% sure that they are removable, but swapping a hard drive is easier than starting fresh.

Nope. HDDs are formatted to the system they are in and that formatting gives it a unique key. If it gets put into another system, that system will format the HDD and wipe the data.

Why doesn't anybody back up their gamesaves? I don't understand it.

But yes, the hairdryer trick (heatgun is better, hairdryers often don't get hot enough). I've also heard of them being put in the oven!

It's a temporary fix though as it will YLOD again sooner or later, best to pull off the data and forget about it for any more serious gaming.

after a few hours i got the hair dryer out and it done the trick got the data onto a usb pen drive and on to the new console but in my garage my cars are a little messed up for example some of my racemod cars in the list (in the photo) they look standard but when you open up that car its racemod'd jus as i left it, and alot of my cars have no picture at all

Good stuff mate 👍

You can press triangle on the thumbnail pics and choose to refresh them. 'Update thumbnail' iirc. Gonna take a while though :)
