Downshifting problems

I just got this game last week and have been having a lot of fun with it so far but one thing has been bothering me. I like to play my racing games with manual transmission and I am not sure if it's my shifting style or my controller or the game, but when downshifting I often miss a shift and have to press the L2 button twice to go down a gear. This becomes very annoying and on more than one occasion has messed up my laps and races.

While up shifting seems to be no problem and I have not had a problem with that at all. I tried using my G25 and haven't had any problems shifting either up or down smoothly so I think it's a controller issue.

I then thought it was the batteries but they seem to be fully charged. So there goes that theory. I also tried playing at different distances from the system and with and without the charging wire hooked up to the controller and the problem still persists.

I also noticed that the L2 and R2 buttons on the SIXAXIS seems to be pretty sensitive, so I was just wondering if anybody has had this issue or do I have a faulty controller?

Do you have a similar problem with any other driving game? If so, then you have your answer... try sticking GT4 into the PS3 and see what happens. I suspect it's your controller, since there's no reason (software-wise) why downshifting would be a problem and not also upshifting.

I haven't noticed anything similar when I've been playing F1:CE, hence why I suspect the controller... if it isn't your controller, then it sounds pretty strange. The L2/R2 buttons are the weakest point of the SIXAXIS though, and the rapidity of the gear changes in F1:CE might have something to do with it, particularly when your braking (and hence downshifting), so maybe that's one reason?

Well I popped in GT4 and choose the Formula car and headed straight to Suzuka. After being disgusted about the amount of jaggies my PS3 threw up on the screen I discovered several things:

One the L2 button on my SIXAXIS works fine and dandy.👍 The other thing that I noticed was that I really suck at playing GT4 after several months away since playing the title.:dopey:

So I suspect that I have to adjust my timing of the downshifts in F1:CE a bit more carefully than other games. Which I have to say is a bit wierd in that you do have to bang in those shifts as quickly as possible since it's an F1 car but oh well...

So in closing I guess I'll have to wait for the SIXAXIS with rumble to purchase another controller for proper racing. Hopefully they will have fixed the L2 R2 buttons by then.
