I have a logitech G25 and when racing with it, if I do say so myself I am quite good with it, but when it comes to drifting with it I just can't do it, I continuously spin at every corner without fail.

Tried with the controller last night and wahey, no more spins, I was able to go into corners faster and exit with my tyres still smoking , but no spin!

Does anyone else find it easier with a controller. I wish I could do it with the G25!

yup with controller a lot easier but more exciting with wheels :sly: , just practice mate. i envy my little brother for drifting with such ease on my g27 lol

It's easy with the controller because it's a 'game'.

It's as difficult as real life with a wheel, if not even harder as you don't have the car telling you what is happening underneath you in the game.

Persevere with the wheel, it's worth the effort ;)

I picked up a DFGT wheel today and I've been trying to drift for the past few hours after getting used to using the wheel in regular racing. I've been able to do it pretty well with the controller but just keep but just can't seem to get it with the wheel. Ah well, I guess I'll just sit here and keep trying til I figure it out...lol.

I find it much harder in the game than in real life. Of course I drift entirely in rain, and at pretty low speeds, in real life.

Here is what I do in the game:

Approach corner
Feint car and chuck it in with good angle
Countersteer (usually by letting the wheel turn via FFB until it hits the stop, as I do in real life)
Spin out other direction

It seems that the front tires load up with grip very very quickly, so that the second the rear tires gain enough grip to set the car straight again, the car instantly spins out the other direction. I have found only a handful of cars that even feel remotely 'progressive' (TVR Tuscan being one of them, everybody struggling should try this car) So basically, the moment I countersteer, the car veers wildly in that direction and into the wall or grass or whatever. It just doesn't feel correct. I know it shouldn't be as easy as Forza, but I know it shouldn't be this hard either.

The fact that people drifter easier with the D-pad is just stupid, its like they are punishing wheel users for owning a wheel. I cant drift to save my life, switch to d-pad and i can drift any corner.

I answered in the other thread about this... I tried on and off for about 2 weeks with the wheel. I said forget it... I race with the wheel only and drift with the controller now. Not being able to fully adjust the FFB kills it for me. Lv1 feels the same as Lv10

Well if you could work out a control system (that reacted as fast as the d-pad/analogue sticks do) in real life, it would probably be easier too. Not only can you go lock-to-lock almost instantly, but you can stabilize the car by going left/right/left/right at a rate impossible with a wheel.

The issue is that the physics in drifting seems enterily different with a wheel from a pad, you can litterally go full-throttle through the whole corner on the D-pad while dabbing the throttle while trying to drift on the same car and setup with my G25 spins me out instantly. I have given up on drifting with the wheel, its just stupid.

Sheesh, im surprised so many people drift with controller. The wheel is much easier after a bit of practice. Dont give up and go back to pad!

The problem is weight transfer. As you let off the throttle, some of the weight will inevitably transfer to the front, and as this happens the rear end goes light. When the rear goes light while simultaneously being subjected to lateral loads, it's going to spin. Try to keep the throttle smooth.

Easier said than done, but i will give it a few more tries ;)

I use the ebrake a lot for high angle drifts and correction.. Lots of speed. EEWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEbrake down shift apex throttle down feather out of turn and repeat process.

Most certainly not. I tried drifting with the controller after using the DFGT for a couple months and I could not get any sort of good angles. That's just me though. Cheers!

Personally, my scores basically double if I switch to the DS3 from my G27. I think part of it has to do with the fact that my homemade cockpit is kinda falling apart because I cant turn the FFB down to a reasonable level. I have no problem link drifting whole tracks with a DS3 with a handful of cars, but I'm hard pressed to get through two turns without spinning with a wheel.

All i can say is that gets alot easier over time with the wheel' and it's a lot more rewarding with the wheel. Persevere with it don't stop. I almost did but I'm glad I didn't, Im getting better every day and hopefully will be able to apply these techniques to drifting in real life when the time comes.

You're spinning out in the other direction because you are not returning the wheel to center quick enough. In other words, the car is gaining traction and hooking up before you have the front wheels pointed straight, causing the car to dart in the opposite direction because you had the wheels at opposite lock.

The best thing I can say to do is practice getting into a controlled slide, and feeling for grip using the FFB and sound of the tires throughout the drift. Turn into the slide, and get used to the point where the car starts to take a sharper line. Then, turn out of it SLIGHTLY and feel for the car starting to straighten out. As you feel this, you should be returning the wheel to center.

It's hard to get used to, but it becomes second nature once you get used to it
