Drift Line

Yes, in drifting, because your front wheels guide the car, they should be following the line. While your back wheels are swung out to whatever angle you can achieve, at the speed you are travelling..........

;)
Not saying you are wrong, that is ONE way to drift, it would also depend on your style of drifting...

The front tires on my S13 2000cc (as well as my FC, FD, AE86, and especially any of my 4WD cars) don't follow a "line", they acually point toward the apex of the turn, yet they never reach it unless I press the accelerator (If i choose NOT to hit the apex, it continues to slide through as if it was on a "line").
I think it has to do with transferring the weight and knowing where the center of gravity is on the car. (?)

Have you ever heard of a 4-wheel drift?

i use the racing line and drift fine to the apex then i catch grip right at the apex and loose my drift and find myself mashing the gas again to get sideways again :( is this a common newbie problem ? or is it that iam doing something wrong ?

Thankyou, NK4E, and yes I know what 4 wheel drift is......... Whether you are in the middle of the track, or touching the apex, as long as you are following a smooth line, it will look relatively good. However, I use a racing line, because, as Zamataki, so eloquently stated:

actually if you think about it, the racing line is actually the largest possible radius of the existing turn. what grip racers try to do is use every inch of the track, thus giving them more room to keep speed through a corner. the key is that they are driving through a larger radius than the original turn, technically making the actual turn longer,(for them it just keeps up speed)and a longer turn actually allows a longer, smoother drift as well.

It gives me a much longer time in the drift, and this is what looks impressive IMHO. I love long smooth drifts that start way before the turn, cut inside, and continue to the outside rumble strip........ It just shows good technique, in my opinion.......

The lines differ if you are going to do exhibition drift or speed drift. If you are doing speed drift then i would go with a racing line. If you are doing exhibition drifting then don't use the racing line and instead, use a line that can make an exhibition drift look good and that is comfortable with you.

haha im not mad, just giving regards to you for being the first person to reply without being hostile and wishing i could make a movie to post and entertain with the rest....but this is off subject so yea

I am an exhibition drifter. I use a racing line, most of the time, and I get huge angles. The line really doesn't have anything to do with the angle of the car in a drift. As I said before, the line is only what the front wheels are taking, to guide the car through tha corner, but your rear wheels can be wherever your skill level allows..............

my style of driving in GT3 and IRL usually takes a certain line, usually the same line grip racing takes, yet my cars facing another direction still taking the same line. When i drift i focus more on entry and exit speed than the angle of the drift itself. I just happen to get crazy angles on accident cuz im going to fast. I have issues with late braking.

SILVIA DRIFTER................My mistake about Not using racing line because i also do that MOST of the time. But i think the "use a line that is comfortable with you" covers up for my mistake." =)

It's all good. I'm just trying to help..............

God, I can't wait till I have another GT3 disc...........

;)

When you guys are talking about the line, when you race, do you actually think "This is the line right here" or do you just turn when you feel it's right? That's what I do, turn when I feel it's right.

at first i just turned when it felt right to turn, but after awhile i wanted to get rid of some of my weaknesses on the course. So i eventually started thinking ...and now its a habbit..but on the bright side it made my racing performance better and faster.

What he said...........

and my GT3 disc cracked when I was taking it out of my case...... So, now I've got to spen another $20 bucks........

;)

ive actually been practising my line more lately..and when i watch the replays with the camera angle looking from inside the apex..it actually looks quite amazing and skilled to see a car in opposite lock clip the apex....
i feel like drifting deepforest.........

I completely agree. It looks extremely impressive, to come into the turn sideways, from the outside, clip the apex, and continue on to the outside, all while sideways......... God I love it........

Yeh, I know......... I just want to make sure I have a new disc by the time the next GTPDC starts, but I'm trying to save money, for my Silvia coupe project....... I'll probably have another disc in a few weeks.

When are you getting another disc? Or are you just waiting for GT4 at this point?.....
