I have tried drifting in GT5P a few times but I give up easily, because I don't believe the physics are good enough. Sometimes it feels like the differential is open and also kicking the clutch most of the time, almost seems to give the car more traction.
Now I can pull off drifts but I just don't get great satisfaction from it, because it does not feel like drifting in real life. The steering seems ok but the way the throttle must be used is off especially at low speeds.

Does anyone know if these things will be fixed?

It all depends what tyres, cars and so on you use. High power cars require very little throttle at low speeds, and N1s require very little throttle because they have no grip. Personally i think sports tyres are more on the ball in realism terms.

I didn't have a lot of time to spend with GT5P, but I do know that in GT4 the S tires were closer to reality in terms of handling dynamics, but way too grippy. At the same time, the N tires were closer to reality in terms of grip, but way off on handling dynamics.

The physics for Drifting are a Bazillion times better in GT5p than in GT4 if you ask me. It takes time and practice with certain cars/tracks/tires. Really just need to adjust to each condition. I LOVE the physics for drifting, it's as close to the real thing i've expereinced yet. Be it in real life i've only been doing 2nd gear drifts in my 240, haven't done high speed drifting, but the feel, idea and concepts go both ways. :)👍

The physics in GT5:prologue are amazingly good, but drifting is an art and is suppose to be very difficult unless you have practiced alot... Recently I realized using Force Feedback to 8 and no power assisted steering for my Logitech Driving Force Pro was the most hardcore way to play to practice including Sports S2 tires and acheive alot of realism and actually make my steering muscles in my arms work a bit. It allows to throw the wheel and catch it and also feel when the front wheels are in the correct position and it just feels crazy overall. Recently I even been doing time trial drifting wich dosent allow settings, so its abs and 40 steering angle all the time :P way harder, especially if your like me and dont use the handbrake and usually set the back brakes stronger. I really recommend going back to the basics and drifting the Eiger Norwand mountain course and hit the downhill corners with low powered cars at full throttle to start with.

you can check out some of my videos on youtube http://ca.youtube.com/user/MarTin3Z420

WORD!!

gt4 drifting = epic fail imo

Im still no pro at gt5p drifting but can pull out some mean angles in the trusty tuned cappucino yo!

I am able to drift in real life, I am in the pro class in Irish drifting and won the novice championship last year (my first year). I have done 4th gear drifts but not many.
What I said above are actual faults with the physics, which is good enough to only have two obvious faults in the prologue. It is possible to go around them, finding ways to make it look like real drifting but that's not the point is it, it's meant to be a simulator.
So does anyone know if it will be rectified or will it end up like GT4.
GT4 was the first game in the gt series that I did not bother finishing and I sold. Physics were so bad.

Again, the car and tyres make a gargantuan difference.

You could only make a true comparison if you had your car in the game. If you're in say the Cappucino tuned, you basically need your foot flat constantly to get a decent drift, then take out a Dodge viper and you need to be much steadier with it.

I have tried different tyre and car combinations in real life and in the game. If you can try the clutch feature try it out you will see what I mean. The techniques used in GT5P to drift are almost identical to drifting a car with an open diff.

You have hit the nail on the head with that statement. Especally when they "fixed" the clutch and powershifting. Now u cant even clutch kick it properly to get the rear wheels spinning more. Epic fail in my opinion

GT5P is miles away from GT4, so comparing them will be innacurate
So two games in the same series produced by the same developer within a time span of less than 5 years couldn't possibly exhibit similar traits in how the different tires are programmed and organized. Gotcha.

Actually yes, the exits feel much MUCH less snappy, the entries feel much more planted and throttle is used much much less as is the amount of countersteer highly variable.

However the new update may change things.

Okay, and what does the fact that GT5:P is better than GT4 have to do with the point I made? I'm talking about how the difference between S and N tires in GT4 may be similar to the difference between S and N tires in GT5:P. I'm comparing an apple to an orange and a carrot to celery. You're comparing an apple to a carrot.

I'm not entirely sure why you're so insistent on making me regret supporting your opinion in the first place.

Ya, I stopped drifting almost completely when they brought that gear change "fix" in.

If anything the drifting in gt5 prologue compared to real life is even harder, in real life you can feel the car going sideways and you are more prepared and alert and the steering feeels much better, you should feel a little bit of satisfaction when drifting S2 tires with a 900 degree steering wheel cause its good practice and harder then actual real life, but in real life there is no reset button :P I made this video why dont you take a look and tell me what you think

I watched your video, not bad at all, but you can see a good example of what I mean by the open diff handling, at around 2:55 when exiting the corner the car has plenty of power and revs left to continue drifting at the same angle you were at but the car straightens.
I know what you mean by saying it being harder than real life, but it would not be as hard if the inputs required to achieve a proper drift were the same as real life (not for me anyway).
I fear that the handling for racing in GT5P is realistic enough that they will not change it so that the drifting is also realistic. If PD were true perfectionists the physics would be based on real life, so that every type of driving was possible using the same inputs as real life, rather than changing parameters until it feels realistic while racing and then flaws showing up when you try drifting. Even a simple donut is not possible in this game, since GT2 low speed grip has been a bit off and it does not look like it's going to change.

I do agree with what you are saying about the tire grip levels. It seems it's much easier to keep sliding/drifting and maintain a level of grip that propells the car with N3's(blitz skyline) (what i enjoy the most). Yesterday i was giving S1's a try and although they are "supposed" to have more grip, when drifting it was very easy for them to reach that limit where you're just spinning tires and it's NOT pushing/propelling the rear of the car around and you straighten out.

Given i put some more time into it with the S1's i had to be a LOT more carefull with throttle control, to keep the rear sliding but still have traction. Just a BIT too much throttle and you're pointlessly bouncing off the limiter, loose momentum/grip etc. But before that point there is definately more grip and faster drifting speeds. With the N3's you can still hit the limiter but for wutever reason it's still giving you the grip you need to keep the momentum of the drift and the back-end out when needed. :dunce:

Yes, you know what I'm talking about. The way the wheels spin too much and do not propel the car forward enough happens in real life also with a limited slip or locked diff, but it is no where near as extreme as the game makes it out to be. Many drifters drift with the car hitting the limiter almost the whole time and they still manage to keep drifting but it is slower and makes more smoke.
I tried the RX7 just to test a car I have driven in real life and the real car does not spin wheels from one thousand rpm in first gear and if you clutch the real car in second gear it does spin wheels. Even with the power turned all the way up in GT, the car will not spin wheels if you clutch it in second at low speed. It's a bit weird.

I also experienced the same thing in the Rx7 even with N3's, in the Bltiz skyline which is the car i use most, i leave the power as it comes standard(in the mid-high 500hp), and turn the weight down, but with S1's i was able to clutch kick. I was having under-steer problems using s1's at first compared to the N3's, but clutch kicks (in same gear 2nd/3rd) was helping me to initiate the drift. In my brief real life experience in my car i use clutch kicks in 2nd to get it started so it was a cool feeling to have it work. There is definately room for improvement in the game though. I hate to keep remembering, but this is really an over-glorified Demo and sort of Beta-test. :yuck:

I would love to try drifting a decently tuned FD rx-7. I wish i could afford to push my car harder and more frequently (daily driver). But it's got enough parts to be fun for my level. So GT5p is giving me my Fix for now. :)👍

The FD I drove was standard and it drifted really well for standard, it was my mates car. I drive 180sx in real life, pity there is not many older cars like these in prologue.

I would love to talk about how realistic it is but I've never drifted a car in real life and my street car doesn't have the power to overcome the weight even with crappy tires. On a wet road at WOT i got like 2 degrees of angle, so little I disn't really need to countersteer.

I feel that most cars handle well and kick out under throttle apart from the jag that felt like it really really didnt have an LSD and was just spinning the inside wheel at times. Not been able to clutch kick without havin a wheel and pedal setup but i can understand its not goin to happen if you cant jam the gears in like you used too.

I'm sure PD will fix the LSD's offering adjustable diff options in the future but I cant see them making the diffs too sensitive with out drivers been able to adjust them because a lot of grippers already feel the cars kick out to much.

Would be awesome if you could tune you cars and use the cheaper option of just welding it lol :sly: good times

Ya, that way you know it's not gonna unlock mid drift:tup:

I don't know why they do not have the clutch available as a button for pad or other wheel users.

you know what you talkin about, i think gt5 as always been trying to make the most realistic racing game with the most details but just recently started including drift elements, they dont care as much for it, i know they are gonna fix that in the real gt5 because you see gt5 banners at d1gp events and cars and you see d1gp in gttv, they have soo much work to do, i think we should give them a break, all gt4 content plus more :S full hd :S plus updating prologue and coming up with a good online package. Soo far im really satisfied with the game and really think it actually helps my driving and is close enough to reality for a prologue.

major issues with gt5 prologue

no online private rooms, no differential settings, no car upgrades, no arcade mode, no online replays, no customization, no damage, no drift tires, drift trial needs alot of work, time trial need seperate tire leaderboards (1 leaderboard for each tire class for each car) when afk in the menu, they should only show replays of people playing with wheels cause they are more interesting to watch

GT3 had no drift cars and I thought that GT3 almost had it with the drift physics, at least with a pad anyway and then GT4 came out and it was a major step backwards and to make it worse they put drift cars in the game. Now GT5 will have drift cars and I do hope they get it right this time but looking at the past I don't know.
