um, I dont quite understand. I know im missing the point of this thred, but nightkids4ever and JW31, what do you mean by going back to grip in GT4?

I started with Supra's in GT1 and 2. then moved on to silvia'a in GT2 and the RX-7. I know how to grip, but ive only learnt how to play this game since I was a kid using oversteer. There is no-way, i just gonna grip drive through GT4, regardless of how realistic it is. Drifting is the fastest way ive know how to drive.

So, can you explain what you mean by going back to grip? Or is it that you mean till you get used to the physics of the new generation of GT games
 
No, just going back to racing properly, instead of lazily sliding around EVERY single corner.

well in gt4 has new physics.. and we have to get use to that.. also we have to have money inoder to buy the parts and etc

WAAAAAH? lazily sliding round every corner as fast as your car lets you takes skill boyo, there is no such thing as lazily sliding, its a matter of control

How can you say that if your in the drifting section of GTplanet, you should already know that drifting well isnt simple, nor lazy.

Grip driving is fundamentally faster than drift. Period. It's been rehashed about 1000 times. There are instances where drifting might enable you to take a different line to over take an opponent or something like that. But if you drift every corner you will not be going as fast as possible. But again, drifting has never been about speed anyway.

Why would you say somehting like that in a drifting forum? If someone went to the regular GT3/4 forums and said "grip is cool but get's boring" They'd be flamed to the 3rd degree.

For example, in the A license test with the R34 GT-R, you can lazily slide around the corner. And it is much slower, especially because the oversteer kicks in as you exit the turn. You can control that oversteer early and limit it, giving you a higher exit speed.

I've also lazily slid around actual races with an overpowered Altezza or CLK55. I won, but it was obvious that it wasn't the fastest way around either, it was only because the 400+ HP engine was much stronger than everyone else's 250.

It is fully possible to beat the early GTs while sliding, as I have done so in GT1 and GT2... your car is usually more powerful. I can even spin out and catch up.

Drifitng is awesome but it get's boring...belive me.

I'm pretty sure everything gets boring after a while. Right now I'm doing license tests trying to gold everything because I didn't feel like racing =P

boo! my post wasn't sarcastic enough!
but actually, i don't have a video capture card or a digital camera. and honestly, i don't even know how good my drifting is... the only comments i get are from random friends and they just say "that looks nice." except for this one guy who wanted me to teach him because he said girls would be impressed by it... =P
and heck, i don't even know what's wrong with other people's videos either =P it just looks fun.

Well yes, its to bad we all have to go back to grip driving when GT4 comes out, but I'm sure its all going to be worth it.

Well I just want to thank you guys for the support. I really love gtplanet, and this drifting forum and I want it to be even better when GT4 comes out.

Well, for me, drift racing is obscenely easy. Tap the brakes, let the gas off, turn, countersteer. That's it for 90 % of the turns when I'm feeling lazy. I don't even need to keep track of my understeer. I know that drifting is difficult. But I'm being specific that Drift Racing is much much much easier.
 
As this ol' OLR vet sees it, there are two schools of driving, when it comes to drifting...

When Race Drifting, whether against the AI, hot lapping for records, 2P or iLinking, drifting is a technique which either lets one take a faster line through a corner (depending on the corner and car) or take an alternate line through a corner, for example when overtaking, or avoiding a car that has invaded one's line. In either case, the object of the drift is to make it through the corner as fast as possible, given the dynamic circumstances which call for the drift to begin with.

There are No style points for race drifting; the reward is to be faster.

The other school is Style Drifting where the object is to drive dynamically around the course drifting and linking drifts for the purpose of style. One might call it artistic driving. It's about pushing the car to the limit of it's grip in such a way to be at the edge of control, being smooth and confident, with the aim of putting together a type of choreography of driving. The reward is the satisfaction of completing a lap, while pushing the envelope of control, and gaining the admiration and respect of fellow drifters for having style...

Of course, this is all just my humble opinion ;)
 
None of the drifters in this forum can type. Alot do'nt even know how to make thier I capital.

Look at all of the past threads that have "I" in them... This is why this forum is the butt of all the jokes.. No one can type in this forum.

Come on... Who cares how someone chooses to get their message across? I know I don't. Sure, we can all be proper and correct, but hey, it's the internet. Some people talk before they think, some type before they think. Doesn't mean they deserve any less respect.

Driving is driving. Like someone said earlier, the only difference is style.

Ok, there's a difference between someone making a typo or a simple mispelling.

When there's posts like "Pls, i need hlp on how 2 drft." That's just being lazy and ignorant.

It's not fair to ask other people to decifer your posts. We have a fair amount of international members where english, much less internet speak, was not there first language. So let's be cutrious to EVERYONE and use good spelling and grammar.

I find it interesting that some of you who are replying don't seem to be heeding RX-7_FC_DrIfteR's argument – using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation will not only get you (and "you"-as-a-community) more respect, but also make posts easier to read. Nobody is looking for perfect grammar (except when I pick on Klos), but at least write something that could be presentable to an English teacher.

For crying out loud. you know what, how about this. the bottom line is when you lay down lazy characters as opposed to ENGLISH, people can't understand you. If you want your opinions heard or a question answered then present it in a maner so that we can understand it! IT BENIFITS the forum and YOU. Shurely you can asociate with that.

"Alot" is not a word.
"do'nt" is not the proper contraction.
"thier" is misspelled.
"I" is not in quotes and could be misread.

it's not "there," it's "their." to be more precisely correct, i think you should use "its" because amount is a singular noun and so "it" rather than "they" should be used for the possesive.

but i don't care. i understood what you all said anyway. i don't even capitalize my i's and i use ellipses when i shouldn't.

if you want a better forum... just simply be more open-minded and laid back. you guys made it such a big deal that the nk4e said he's going to back to OMGWTFBBQ grip =P we can show off with our vids, others can show off with their times, i can drift with the model t ford in GT4... we all have our own opinions, but it's more fun when people respect everyone and not nitpick little things like grammar or try and generalize everyone into either drift or grip racers.

we're all just different people, anyway. i don't think we all posted on a forum to get angry.

I was talking about this stuff. As I asumed rx-7 fc drifter was as well. Gramar is not such a big deal to me (someone will have fun with that sentence) Not so much as the stupid abreviations. IMO, IRT, BTW, PPL, Y, R, you doing this to us! the list goes on and on. call me internet iliterate but it took me a week to figure out what the heck IRT meant. Considering I had to figure out first, that it was an abbreviation. This may be common internet speak for all I know. A common international language of the www. but to me, and probably anyone to whom english is a second language, it's just jiberish.
 
I wonder if this forum will ever be like it was maybe 5-6 months ago. We need more veterans to come back like me.

The influx of newbies after the release of new games will no doubt be inevitable. So I believe firm approaches to newbies with the rules will be a hard job to do, but it will be necessary in the attempt to keep these forums, say 'clean'.

well this is a great thread. i think this should be a Sticky on top of the gt3 drifting forum. Too many new members just talking in shor cuts all the time. I used to talk like that all the time. I still do but not as much since , just like "ur" "yea" and etc, but other than that i dont as much. Since my coming to GTP its been a great grammer lesson, i havent been typing like an idiot all the time. Well to al the new members who just started to post on forums, dont be a fool because you will get flamed by all the veteran members. Thanks for posting this Rx7fcdrifter!

WOW, this post changed alot scince yesterday! Um, to what people where saying on page two, I would have to agree with NoQuarter, there is a way to drift fast (please dont agrue this point), and this kind of drift is not lazy at all, even racing ledgends such as Shumaca uses it,( https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49820 )
and I really doubt anyone can say he is slow.

To the point on page three, GTPlanet is filled with people of many ages, and inteligence levels. Therefore you might as well accept that spelling mistakes are always going to be made, and just to top things off, some people are "inteligent" in certain fields only, such as I really dont learn well by reading something, but i can pick up on it alot faster by watching, for example driving. Its a matter of how a person learns, that is what intelligence is, basing someones inteligence on what you see in this forum is not accurate, because you cannot see their other skills.
