Hey all.
Im trying to drift with the DFP wheel in the 900" mode and to be honest, i cant phreakin do ****!? Sure fun and all in the 180/200" mode but, It seems impossible to link drifts in 900" mode.

Is it just me who have troubles doing this?

He's talking about the Driving Force Pro wheel. Turn up your force feedback to 100% and don't be afraid to let go of the wheel when you're transferring weight =)

Thanks for clearing that up Pergatory.

I got it @ 100% but i cant get it to work. Tested to just "let it go" and it got a bit easier. But i think the force feedback is a bit to slow somehow. Comments?

lol. Ok, might be hard to comment it then, yeah.

But anyone who has been using the 900° mode and know a good way of drifting with it?

I hope everyone understands that the biggest reason that you can't drift well in 900 degree mode yet is because the game (GT3) wasn't designed for 900 degree mode.

Wait, you can set the wheel to go 900 degrees?! Instruction on this whole 900 degree mode thing please. This could help greatly with my drifting career, scheduled, SOON.

As BreakerOhio mentioned, if the game is not programmed for 900 degree mode, then it will be less precise if you switch it. The game only expects a certain number of possible positions for the wheel, so it has to stretch those positions out to cover 900 degrees. In 180 degree mode, you might not notice that there are a limited number of positions you can turn the wheel to, but in 900 degree mode it will be more apparent like using the scroll wheel on a mouse (if you have one).

SELECT + R3 + Right Paddle shifter to toggle 900 degree mode. Your right led will turn on when in 900 degree mode. I'd recommend turning off feedback if you want to use 900 degree mode in GT3.

What do you guys think of this wheel in general? I have been considering buying one, but I'm wondering if I should just wait and buy the package when GT4 comes out. I've never owned a wheel, but I've heard nothing but good things about them, especially in relation to drifting.

Is the quality of the wheel good?
What type of stand/table will I need to put the wheel itself on?
Is it worth the insane price of it?
If you switched from a controller to a wheel, was it more fun with the wheel?

Thanks.

If you invision yourself with the wheel when GT4 arrives, why delay it, buy if you can afford it, I doubt the price will lower anytime soon, so by buying it early, you'll have time to get used to it.

I love the wheel, if you're going to spend the money to get one, you should get this one. The quality is unsurpassed from what I can tell, especially in regards to force feedback. My first drifting experience was in real life so I guess you could say I started on 900° rotation, so when I tried drifting in GT3 with the controller I laughed and stopped trying until I got myself a wheel. It just didn't seem realistic or worth my time. If you plan to carry your GT3/GT4 experience into real-life drifting then a wheel is a must. The GT4 wheel doesn't work with the lap-mount piece you've probably seen, so you have to mount it to a table or some sort of horizontal ledge. Requires a thickness of about an inch or less, which can be a pain in the arse depending on your furniture arrangement.

the quality of the wheel is awesome. It feels a lot more "stable" then the old wheel (yeah it have a couple of years on its neck but still in pretty good shape). The only thing i dislike is the clamps that hold the wheel itself, they do work but there should be some alternatives that work better on harder materials such as marble.

U can use the same stand as u use for the old wheel. Almost everything.
If u can afford it, Its wonderful. Gonna be sweeet in GT4. Somehow i just know it.
Yes a wheel is (my oppinion) so much better then the DS2 controller in pretty much all ways. More fun? Definetly.

Thanks to Pergatory and Breaker Ohio for clearing up the positions thing. I looked at some replays of just standing still and slowly moving the wheel and noticed it but i didnt think it was doing that in game.

So my wheel will turn like 5 times?

Hmm. With a 900 degree ability i think it will be ahrder to even counter-steer and bring it back. Makes me want to get a wheel and try it myself. Now that little code you said BreakerOhio. is that for ALL wheels or just for the Driving Force Pro?

Probably the biggest question of all is if the car loses traction, will it loosen the steering wheel? If not then it's still far from real life driving even with 900 degree mode. Wingman GP (yellow) does not support this feature, and I doubt the others will have it either.

First, let me clarify, is this wheel turns 900 degrees one way?

For most video game wheels, there's 'power steering' whether you lose grip of your tires or not because the 'grip' is supported by springs and not hydraulics. If you're going chain drifts, the steering wheel must be turned to the other side very quickly to stay inside of the road. The best way to do this is to swing the wheel as hard as you can and it will turn/countersteer by itself. Initial D acrade stage's steering wheel can let you do that. In fact, most Sega racing games' steering wheels are pretty darn close to the ones in real life.

Another way to say this is, when you're going off road, without LSD it loses grip easily when going over bumps; The game wheel's grip however is there at all times - the best it can do is vibrate.

I purchased a logitech driving force and a driving force pro both three weeks ago, 200 degree confuses the hell out of me and i can find 900 degree mode much more satisfying, i can drift with it pretty well..

although i find that the force feedback doesnt react to the grip right after the counter steer as well as it should be..

im curious to see if gt4 has a different feel for it.. hmmm

If you want to save a couple dollars, do a search on Froogle.com for driving force pro and it should come up with a lot of driving force pro's for under the retail of $150. The trick is to find one that is cheap AND in stock. I have already thrown down the cash for a DFP at amatteroffax.com (only $110 shipped) but they sold out that day so it is backordered now. If you can wait for the item to be shipped I'd say go for it, and save some dollars. Of course if it breaks on you, you only have your manufacturers warranty to go from, not like you could just take it back to the store you got it from, e.g. Gamestop or something.

If you want one that is pretty cheap and in stock go to:

http://www.spacecentersystems.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/11240

They have over 1000 in stock. And from them I think it is about 125 shipped.

Oh, and no stealing mine from amatteroffax.com, I'll slap someone if they get their wheel before me.;)

It turns 900 degrees from lock to lock. So no not both ways.. You will get 450 degrees (or 1 and a quarter) of rotation from the middle to lock.
