im sorry to post this kind of thread but i have been practicing for almost a month now! and i have not gotten better i read all the help topics in the sticky as well as tryed some of the settings and twiked them to my stndards and still no luck! :banghead:
hoping someone can give me some pointers im using the dualshock2! i know it takes practice and all the tips i have read on this fouruum i have had no luck! just need a good way to start the drift with out sppinnng out im using Shenron's setting for the FC!

Yeah i hear that... took me about 4 months to be able to drift proper with FR.... you could try and keep the car stock or only a flywheel upgrade for acceleration... its easier to perfect your drifting with less hp (my opinion) A lot of drifting is throttle control. A practice I like is cornering on midfield without using the steering wheel. Also wheight shift makes a huge difference.. learn how your cars wheight is moving.. if its too much, stiffen up.

Also if you want easier drifting try 4wd.. control is much simpler.

Now now, you silly wheel drivers know you're cheating. The best tips I can give you with the dualshock are as follows:
1) You need to be gentle, yet firm with the analog, when you're going in, pay attention only to the angle of the front tires. Try putting more front wheel angle when accelerating and
2) When learning to drift, I believe it's essential that you find the car that's perfect for you. Mine was my wonderful ZZII, after about a week or two of it, I could drift just about everything.

ok well i can drive the FC great i can get the drift started a little but my tyres never lock up and grip so i can keep it going! and i just lide off the track or i spin out of control it's this way for all of the cars i try to drift with!
maybe someone can help me not to slide off the track im drifting on midfield and im beggingng to get frustrated but i know better than to do that!
so maybe someone can tell me how to start the drift so my tyres will grab traction i only have 254HP
and im using sims! thanks

try to change your approach into the corner.. if your too high or too low you will fall off, also try approaching in a low gear but at higher rpm

the things that i have tried is similar to that i do some hard braking and no work i have tried that i believe i tried feint but it made it worst!
maybe im just doomed to drift i have no idea where to start now!

I feel your pain took me 2 months to learn how to drift now i drift very well. You might wanna change your drift line..... aslo sheron's settings are set for high powered cars..

i use the dualshock for drifting.....ive never tried it with a wheel.

you have to think of the dual shock joystick as if it has more movement than it really does, so therefore you can only make severe motions.
countersteer early to avoid spinouts and make use of the pressure sensitive throttle as it helps alot

ok try this go buy an ae86 from the toyota dealership then go to the tune shop do full upgrades on the drivetrain, reduce the weight , upgrade the brakes ,leave a stock suspension, dont do any power mods, and put sims on it. then go and try to drift at a track should be alot easier aslo remember you shouldnt try to do insane angles start out will small angles.:D

I learned to drift with 4WD cars, I think they're the best choice to get skill in controlling the throttle. And then I could drift with RWD cars.
That's my experince.

AGREED!!! I like soooo totally agree!!! Try drifting with 4WD first.. get the feel, get the line, get the control (throttle/brake) under wraps and then, have a go at FR.... My choice would be the Skyline GT-R R34 (naturally :)) and just drive it as per normal... the drift will initiate itself.. if you want settings for this car.. lemme know.. :)

4WD is the last thing you need to learn on. You barely need to countersteer and you can keep the throttle slammed most of the time.

Now, you guys give advice and tell him to do this and that, but you won't learn anything unless you know WHY you're doing those things.

Here's the best way I can explain this for you without adding confusion. First off, use a FR car. Forget 4WD altogether. Now, when you enter the turn, you want to keep your front wheels aligned with the road. When you apply throttle the back end will step out. You need to balance throttle input to keep the car at an angle while keeping the car on the road by steering inputs.

That's really all you need to know for learning. More advanced techniques will come to you as you gain experience and skill.

Thats exactly what he was doing the whole time.... we all know FR is very difficult to drift... I think he should first get a feel for drifting and then try FR once he got everything under control...

It may be different for everybody.. but I think one should start slowly and work your way up... up to the ultimate in drifting.. which is... FR on sims IMO.

You don't need to countersteer necessarily at the beginning of the turn. You need to countersteer when you are at your desired angle.

hey you why dont you folow my speed drift theory it might be alot easier. i taught NIGHT_DRIFTER and many GT3 players in the same way and it worked fine.

I hope your not talking to me? I don't have any problems with speed drifting. However, I much prefer the artistic nature of exhibition drifting. It's just more fun to watch, and more of a challenge IMHO.;)

challenge i dont know. i like speed competitions. not judging by how far i can go side ways. i did both and still lost to exhaust note so i dont know. but not to you to whoever is askin

No problem. Yeah, I saw that you lost to Sal. That's because You can't mess with the S14 drift Twins. Pure and simple. If you do, prepare to be owned. ;)

well thinks for all the replys i have learned how do to guide the throttle and braking im jsut having problems with the wheels gripping so i dont go off the track!

Hmmm.... Now that you mention S14's and stuff I'm thinking of letting one of my S14's make an appearance in my next vid. I just like to challenge a bit...:D
