hello people, new guy here, frequent lurker though. ive seen a bunch of people say drifting is really hard in gt4. i bought a couple drift cars (90'supra, 600hp. trueno, 240hp) and after an hour of messing around i could through some good drifts around most corners except Us. why do people say its super hard? well latter.

yeah it certainly gets alot easier the more you play the game. my problem w/drifting in GT3 was i would frequently spin out from oversteering and power-over, but these arent nearly as much a problem anymore in GT4!

The drift is much different from the last game, but seems more realistic and hard to master. I find it harder to enter a corner as fast as I would like, understeer happens at like 20 mph which is unrealistic. The turbo lag is the second pit I have to say "real" but over dramatic, a 700+ horse power 6cyl. would have some torque down low but this game makes it tough to keep the rev up. What ever, that is why I enjoy the GTO no lag. Well I am still learning about all the settings but good luck with drifting and hope to see a video soon.

yea its actually not that hard, i was drifting ok with my supra, its only gay when u do that 'snap-back' as people say it, but i managed to save 1 or 2, lol

Could have fooled me. I tried drifting yesterday with my 379 HP Rx7 (FC), with the setups recommended in that "Official Setups" thread. I also have a 240sx, but it doesn't have a ton of power. Any recommendations on how to get this to work better? I am having trouble first getting the car to drift without spinning out, and then of course over correction is killing me, and I can't seem to stop it. I use the analog sticks for gas and brake, btw.

Also, do you guys drift in GT Mode, or in Arcade mode? Because the setup says "Sim" tired, which suggests Arcade mode since there are no Sim tires in GT Mode.

Any hints suggestions would be appreciated, as I am a 100% newb drifter (definately not a GT4 newb though).

Thanks

I just go to the tracks in GT Mode, also if youre having trouble with the settings you tried, check the links in my sig, to help you tune the suspension to your own driving style. Alot of times other peoples settings wont work for you because they drift differently. and the search button is your friend if your looking for something 👍

oh and when someones referring to sim tires they are probably referring to N1 tires.

Unfortunately, it is all about practice. When are you spinning out? corner exit? you probably are using to much throttle. Corner exit, snap around spin usually means too much counter-steer.

379hp FC sounds pretty high powered. You may want to up the tires a little for some more grip. Also, don't rely on other people's settings unless you see how they drift in a video. Many people have odd drifting "styles" that may not be the way you drive.

N1 tires are the hardest and most like the "sim" tires of GT3.

There's no value to this post, i just thought this was THE most creative and hilarious thing i've heard in a while on this board.

I started with street tires because I figured I wanted to loosen the car up a bit, but street tires are far TOO loose. I can just pull the turbo stage down a level or two and lower the horsepower.

So how do you guys generally start the drift, - parking brake? You need alot of power to get on the brakes then slam the gas to get wheel spin when entering the turn in order to get sideways fast enough, at least from what I've tried.

And thanks for those settings suggestions, I will check it out.

Feinting is the usual method to get the drift started. Only use the E-brake when you can't do anything else. Or extend a drift. Really extend it.

Like I said, total Newb here lol. What does this mean? Does this mean steering the opposite direction of the drift, and then back around quickly to get the rear sliding out?

It's swaying the car left and right to shift the weight so that it catapults the car to one side. ;)

I am about to give up. If the damn car kicks back one more time I am going to flip out. I cant get it sideways, and when I do I cant keep it that way without spinning or kicking back at the end of the drift. :indiff:

Straighten the wheels up before the end of the drift, otherwise it will kick back.
