Drifting Physics - Different in Drift Trial/Practice?

I was drifting my Subaru Race Mod... my fav drift car today using the full lap drift on Suzuka East. I must have done at least 15 laps in a row without getting under 10k points or spinning out. Then I join a lounge with my buddy and all of sudden I can't get past one turn with the same car on the same track with the same technique I was using in Full Lap Drift Practice. After about five minutes, my technique changed and I was able to drift, albeit with much less extreme angles to avoid the snap countersteer in the regular race physics.

Now I don't know why the physics would be different but... they certainly seem that way. Does anyone else feel this way?

And... to point number 2: If the physics are different, then why aren't we able to set up a Drift specific type lounge/race online? I don't see why it would be difficult to do something like a full lap drift with the best points in one lap going to the victor. Several other games have had this before.

And yes, I know drifting isn't about just getting points but about fun and I agree but... it is a little disappointing that the thing I was most excited about - the online component - is even more lacking then prologue. Lounge is very fun and all, but without any kind of reward or any kind of public races, there is not much of a point. At least in prologue we had strictly regulated races with a cash prize for our time. I miss that.

I kinda feel the same difference. I'm struggling online where in drift practice mode I am doing pretty decently. My cars are harder to pitch around corners it seems in lounge rooms compared to drift practice with the same setup/course.

Yes, the physics are different...they were in prologue. Non drift mode is more slippery, but you should adjust in a lap or two.

Yep, noticed it the first time I did it. The drift trial is like drifting on ice, maybe not to that extreme but it feels more slippery. I was disappointed with that. But I don't use it now. Just test my cars out online or on normal a spec.

yea ive noticed it too, im fine in regular drift mode and then i go online and cant control the car, it suddenly has too much grip

Could it possibly be like this so that calculating your drift angle would be easier (drift angle has an effect on your points, does it not? I don't have GT5)

If this thread continues with the in-depth conversation about the physics. I will going this to the Nu-newmembers thread.

I try to make it a habit to make sure all my driving aids are off anytime I enter a new online room or even change my car within the same room. I had several instances where I would jump one room to another and my tcs was set back to 5 and abs set to one when I already changed all to off/0 in the previous room.

Not sure if this applies to the ops problem but its worth a look at.

:tup:This.

Happened to me today. I was trying the Loeb challenges and the car was acting like it was suffering from extremely bad turbo lag, then I realized the TCS was on 5...MAGICALLY.

Nah i use the DFGT so I always check the TC and Brakes on the fly.... A-Spec races are definitely stickier. They should just have a "Drift mode" for the lounge. There are obviously enough people interested in drift and nothing else.

BTW its not impossible to do some awesome drifts in the lounge, just a lot more difficult. It's true, if youre good enough, a couple of laps and you'll be rockin.

Seriously? Drift mode has different physics?...that's really dumb :(

I..actually don't know if I've ever used Drift trial in GT5, maybe once. I do all my drifting in free run.

It's seems better to me when I'm in a spec mod than drift trial mod. It's more realisect.

I have also realized that the physics are different. Adjusted and got on with it. Just ignoring drift mode now LOL

My point is that it's just kind of silly to include an entire mode that really has no point because the physics of it don't apply anywhere else.
They even removed the leaderboards.

I find the way it scores you to be quite weak too. I'd be all for it if it took into greater account speed, which at the moment seems to have little effect on your overall score, and it should reward you for doing backwards entries, not automatically cancel those points because it thinks you're trying to cheat. I tried Drift Mode for the first time today solely for the Dream Drifter trophy and got bored after a while of losing thousands of points for going past 90 degrees.

I feel that free run mode is more slippery
I can continuously drift throughout the whole track in drift mode
but I can't get pass one corner in free run mode.
Front tires heat up too quickly and I spin out.

Isit I'm the only 1 here felt that the physics are same in both mode? Yest I tried on trial mountian drift at the first same corner over and over agian but didn't notice the different, mayb we should post a question on kazunori's twitter about this.

Maybe they can just include "Drift Radials" as a tire option. Which honestly, I expected when the full game came out.

Drift radials? I guess this is an American thing yet to come over here as I've never heard of them before really. Could you explain them please? :)

About 50% of my online time is spent drifting. I've never tried the dirt mode in Arcade, but to find out it has different physics applied (as in prologue) is rather disappointing.👎

Drift Radials are tires that drifters use for better performance. I assume they have a harder compound, but I've never actually used them. I could be wrong.

Ahh I see. Well we do have those over here. I thought they might be totally different, like drag radials :) They have harder, more durable compound that grips more at higher temperatures and some produce more smoke.

Yeah that's what I'm assuming. I thought that with the success of the Drifting mode in prologue, PD would concentrate and spend more energy with Drifting in this game. But I was wrong. Much like I was wrong thinking the online component would be robust. I'm still hoping it's improved, and quickly.

this

Yeah I wish they would just look at how many lobbies are dedicated to drifting and then they might realize how big the community is growing. Also a little more focus towards touge and gymkhana. They are missing the boat on this one. Also more official drift cars. They have old D1 models and hardly any new ones.

i think that i notice lag in the online drifting (or racing) rooms depending on how many people are in the room and how good your connection to the host is, maybe this is what is screwing some people up because it does feel different online.
