im planning to buy a Kyosho Mini-Z. IF i buy it and IF i can drift OFcourse i will post a vid. :D

Mini-Z's are crazy fun but the steering sucks. The servo they come with is weak as hell so if you upgrade the front-end much, it doesn't have the strength to turn properly. They don't offer upgraded servos but I'm trying to find one through other sources... steering is important at 40mph.

You shouldn't have any problem drifting it though =) Especially if you upgrade it.

ok thnx for the tip. i found a stock mini-z in a box rtr, but it seems i will also look for a new steering servo and a faster motor :D

Here's a flash of reality for you. The 2F2F Skyline ****ing sucks. Craig Leiberman is the man to blaim. It's been converted to RWD, and is slower than stock. Not to mention it's ugly as hell...

they also took out the 4WS......and the nitrous bottles arn't even hooked up......:odd:

It's not brushless, it's custom hand-wound. 19-turn I think. The motor plus ESC cost me $120. Here's the description from the guy's website:

This motor is HAND-WOUND in a special pattern to increase the magnetic field of the armature. This means MORE POWER and MORE SPEED! This is impossible to achieve with machine-wound motors.

I hated the movie, sucked balls, but nice work. I like that one.

I own a Focus, no pics, sorry, but this little bugger runs. I can drift in it, but its really hard, the front tires seem to grip the ground, so it wont slide. It's fun doing donuts tho.

And Craig Lieberman is on my other forum alot. He's a pretty nice guy, except his cars are ****.

i got a monster truck that gets to about 25 28mph but i use it for local skatepark basihing

Craig Leiberman is a punk *****. He came on Club4AG trying to recruit people to record drifting sounds for his movie. He was going to record sounds of us drifting and use them for the other cars in the movie. We flamed him so bad that he didn't even bother to come back.

4AG owns Leiberman.

Unfortunately, he then struck a deal with Moto-P to record sounds at DD1 and that's what got used in the movie apparently.

How long and wide are the mini z's? Or what scale are they? I can kinda see how a 19 turn would get close to 40mph but if they arent very big a 19 turn should do the trick...Get a 9 turn double I bet youd be pushing 50 :D

They're 1:18, mine has a wheelbase of about 2.5" x 4"

With that kind of power and that small of a car, you can see why drifting becomes rather hard...

Youd think w/all that power drifting would be easier. Try using electrical tape and wrap your rear tires like 3 times and wrap the insides of you front tires. This should help you drift if its possible w/a mini.

www.rcd.zip.to has 2 sweeet drifting videos under videos (duh). Spoolin is the king of ALL rc drifters :D.

At D1GP USA, I got to meet the guys from HPI and got to check out their Micro RS4s. They said to use Heat Shrink Wrap on the tires. I don't know where you can get it at in everybody else's town. But Heat Shrink Wire Wrap is the way to go on a Micro. I know a secret for 10th scale that i was told and shown by HPI themselves passed on from the best Japanese R/C Racers. As soon as I can get my editing system back up, I'll post some of my GT3 drifting with the Altezza LM Race Car.

As for the cars having a lot of power and being hard to drift...
Well, I setup hard slicks with hard inserts, and camber the hell out of the suspension. It kills tires so I'd look at your local track for throw aways. I get peoples tossed out tires to drift with.
On nitro, I would recommend a 2 speed, racing clutch, and a light flywheel so it spools up faster. Also the suspension needs major tuning.

Let me know if anybody gets better at their R/C Drifting!

Later Everybody...

Probablly pretty crappy. Youd need a better motor (more torque forget top speed), taped tires, and more camber. I dunno jack about mini's aftermarket so serach around. Go to www.radiocontrolzone.com and click bulletin board at the bottom then chose the General discussion or electric forum and post a thread on it. (after you register that is)

To completely honest w/you I wouldnt get a min-z (if you dont already have one) or if you do go to ebay and find a hpi pro rs4 or something. Itd be easier to get it to drift w/one and theres a lot more people who drift them. Also, a ton of people have said the minis are fun then get really old. But its all up to you.

Remeber
torque
tape
and camber ;)

also, TC3's and XXX-S and RS4 Pro 2's drift the best
the RS4 Pro 4 mimics the TC3, so it'll prolly be just as good, but the Pro 3's just have to much flex, to be worth it to try to drift...

My window hole? My engine is on the right side, so I cut the holes on the right side. My engine doesn't overheat or just stop, so i think my holes are fine. Besides, I'm already constructing a duct system for the engine heatsink head. I'll post on it.

Later
