I am hoping that i am not the only other person that does this. How many of you have been drifting in this game so long now that when you try to actually grip race you still drift? Haha. I was trying to actually race today, and well i couldn't do it because im so used to drifting thats all i would do. Even when i would take a turn without drifting i would think, man this is boring

Well yes when drifting so much just a normal race becomes VERY odd to drive it. Drifting can be boring after half an hour of the same thing. Cant wait for GT4... MORE TRACKS.

That used to happen to me, drifting while trying to race. Fortunately I can switch mentalities a lot easier nowadays. :D
In fact, I've often found myself drifting a couple laps around a track then setting the car back to racing spec, interesting how there's always (or at least most of the time) a 20-25 second difference between the best drift lap and the best race lap. The majority of the cars I do this with always keep that same margin anyway.

lol same here... I tryed to do a race in a supra and it loss traction and started to drift lol it had 5 TC and Super Soft Tires On It.... lol

bustwave.

It was worse when I drifted in NFS:U and then went back to GT3 drifting. I think as of now I am looking forward to the new tracks in GT4 like bustwave. I can't drift that well nor can I drive normal as well as I'd like to be able to. I don't get to play GT3 all that much so I don't get to practice either.

Well I can relate to that feeling, but as Sleek Strados said, it's easer for me to swich becuase when the whole drifting craze hit GT players, I still stuck a bit to grip driving and even though it's an occasional habbit, when I'm searous I will stick to grip driving. It not only depends on mood but also the car itself. If it has good grip to beging with it's sorta easier than with a car with settings to lose traction the instant you sway from a strait line.

Also it's becuase for me I stuck to grip because around 2002/3 well before I got a good look at Initial D (I saw a bit of the manga around 03', first saw Initial D in a fan music video in 1999/2000...) i found that sliding all over the place regardless of how it's done wore out tires faster, so I simply stuck to keeping the tires from ever losing grip.

Although lately I pratice drifting a lot, I'll drive around a track using grip style driving untill I get comfortable with it before I try drifting unless I'm aware of how the car will react depending on what I do on whatever turn.

It may seam stupid to think about drift in 2 ways, for showing off and for speed becuase grip is faster, but becuase I've been trying to go as fast as possible drifting (I.E. like Fujiwara Takumi...), the margin for me has been a much smaller gap compaired to what Sleek Strados said (then again what he said after that...)...but then again the cars I drift with for the time being aren't so built to race really sans my Corvette Z06.

Long story short for me, I don't think I've drift enough, becuase I've been driving in the GT serries, all 3 games out in the US so far, I've built a grip driving mentality that's hard to break, even though lately I've been trying to get better and better at drifting. Persornally I don't think I drift too much.

For me is very usual, only races where I need with more than 400 hp car's I don't drift, less than that I use drift, and normally I win races, sometimes speed drift can be very useful in some curves. Really useful.

Like Sleek Stratos(like the avatar) I've never had much difficulty switching between the two, I try to practice drifting as much as I can but I also bought gt4 prologue and have been racing around in that, I found the drift techniques(and practice) have actually improved my grip driving skills I feel I can respond to the cars better ;)

I drift... all the time... even in the 2 hour trial mountain endurance with my stock FD, I drifted, and I won by an easy lap against that pretty little NSX... I find I am much better at saving my tires by drifting due to not having to put all that weight on my tires while keeping my tires turned in. So my answer is yes, I drift all the time regardless, even in that silly looking CLIO sports car.

I never have that problem because in my mind there is a distinct difference between drifting and bad grip driving. I consider drifting sliding from a tiny bit before the intrance all the way to the exit, your angle DECREASING from intrance to exit.not increasing :sly: I do find myself sliding through some turns sometimes just beacuse im too lazy, so i just bust out a drift and start sliding before the turn instead of trying to squeeze out every ounce of breaking and speed w/ out loss of traction. My question is, are u doin that because u just feel like drifting on some corners or because ur losing tracking some time after you enter the corner?
