I'm new to drifting and can't do it at all but want to learn I am currently using the BMW M5 on either racing soft tyres or sports hard tyres and automatic transmission, can anybody give me any tips or suggest some good drifting cars

Use a manual transmission, and don't use anything over sports hard tires.

Go to manual, use CH or CS tires. Have fun!
Oh and I know your new but please, use the search function before creating a new thread because, there are about a million of these kinds of threads.

For starters dont use racing tyres. Pointless my friend. Use comfort softs or lower. My basic drift tune is all aids off (obviously) set your gears to manual (if you edit controls you can change where the gear up is, i use right analogue stick) and set your gearbox to max top end speed, too many gear changes will result in "breaking" the drift. Use throttle control, dont just boot it. Also go slow at first to get a feel for your car. You need to be able to know amd antocipate what it will do. I have this with my drift slr and my X2010. It just helps kbow what to do. Try to avoid first gear when drifitng, i find it too sensetive. I normally stick it in second and leave it. Practice offline so you don't get any idiots barging you off the track. Hope some of this helped :)

Go to the GT5 drifting forum. You will find lots of hints and tips on how to get better.

Also I used the Dodge SRT8 Challenger as my first car. 👍
