Drinking and driving

If this is anything like the thread at the GTF, I know even the hardest of the core there was shaken by this pic. I never saw it, and I don't want to. I've seen enough in my time.

It's more or less pictures of a girl and her family before the accident and pictures of her after. Unbelievable. I'm amazed she even lived.

And we let people legally gather in mass numbers to consume this stuff (alcohol) when ever they want, where ever they want,... then drive home.

more like distressing.

It's pictures of a (once) very pretty little girl, who has suffered 60% + coverage, 3rd degree burns as a result of a drunk driver.

She has no facial features.......

Bird don't look you can't handle it!!!

No one is gonna take notice to this problem until it's some congressman's daughter, or the congressman himslef who was drunk. Nothing ever gets anywhere unless it diectly effects someone important. Sad.....

There was a cop in Phoenix. He's pretty famous now. You may remember he carried the Olympic torch through Phoenix. He was hit at like 100 mph while doing a traffic stop and his cruiser burst into flames. He has no facial features now. His eyes are slits. No lips. No noze. No hair or ears. And practically 100% of the rest of him was burned off. But he's alive and his beautiful wife is still with him through it all, and his kids. He was in the same hospital as my brother-in-law, who had a similar accident, only no facial injuries, and my sister used to commiserate with his wife. She is an amazing woman and exemplifies unconditional love like I've never seen. But when they put this guy's face on TV it's very hard to look.

So anyway, I'll pass.

I'm currently having breakfast, so I'll skip it.

Drink-driving is one of my 'soap box' issues - I don't think we're anywhere near tough enough on drink driving.

There needs to be a complete rethink on how it's handled - things like being 100% at fault in an accident if you're found to be over the legal limit, manslaughter and murder charges for drink drivers involved in fatal accidents, that sort of thing. We're much too soft on it.

There's a start,... though you can do 15 years if you kill someone with the current laws.
What we need is mandatory-mimimuns,... like with LSD,.... get busted with it,... go directly to jail for no less than 4 years,.... period.

I'm speechless.:(

Here's the asshole who did it:

Seriously? What a pathetic piece of ****. If he had any honor at all he'd apologize to her face and then kill himself.

Man... I keep looking at that picture and just want to punch him in the face. I know it's not very Christlike but I can't help it.

And the fact that he's crying makes me ill. Poor baby feels bad. TOUGH!!

Alcohol = Bad.

Why drink it when there are plenty of other things to drink which don't affect you like alcohol does? I just think it's stupid.

My "friend" Rodney crashed his Sanoma into the back of an Expedition late last year after drinking. Injured all 5 occupants of the Expedition, and totaled both vehicles. He was traveling 92mph, fell asleep, and smashed into the back of the Expedition which was going 50mph.

He isn't being charged with anything, though. The court lost their copy of his ticket! Pretty sad if you ask me. I still want to beat his ass.

I'm not actually a fan of sending people to jail for DUI charges(recidivists aside) - most people caught are generally otherwise productive members of society. Confiscation of cars, properly enforced driving bans - these rules need to be properly enforced. Force people who cop DUI to go back to the start and get their license through the same process they had to in the first place, and place them on permanent provisional licenses - and if they go DUI again - banned for life.

I like the idea of 100% at fault if you're over the limit - even if you get rear-ended stopped at the lights, if you're legally drunk, tough, your fault. That might sharpen a few up.

I have s "special" place in my heart for drunk drivers.
My neice was hit by one while crossing the street when she was seven years old. She did live and is often a productive member of society.
I just really hate the fact that in the accident it is usually the drunk that escapes with no injuries whatsoever.
I have taken care of people on my Rehab unit that have been busted up as the result of driving drunk. After spending day after day with them, I can say that it's really hard to hate them. Each of my "drunks" has been very personable and even pretty nice. Not saying that I would get into a car with them. Nor will I stand up as a character witness for them in court.
It is a shame that we have so many places in this country where you can go get a drink or ten and then go get in your car and attempt to drive home.
I think every bar should have a safe at the front door. Each patron is given the opportunity to learn the combination (at least 4 numbers) of the safe. He/she then must put their car keys in the safe before being served. If you are too drunk to work the combination after your "session" a cab will be called for you, and the cabbie will get custody of your keys till you are home.

I'm glad I didn't look at the picture.

I think 'don't drink and drive' is a good idea. An even better idea is 'don't drink'.

Another good idea would be for car companies to start building safer cars. I saw somewhere the Ford has something like twenty billion dollars in the bank. How about taking some of that money and designing some safer cars.

Let me tell you from the trenches that Florida is very weak in enforcing DUI suspects. Yes, the cops may act tough on TV, but it's up to them whether you spend the night in jail, or if someone else picks you up. Well, for some people, that's enough...but not enough, apparently.

I have first-hand experience how uneven-handed the traffic courts handle these DUI situations. I've been to court many times over speeding tickets, and these buffoons levy the same sentences on suspended licnese and those who owe money to the state. In fact, many times, I've seen DUI offenders get off easier!

The plan is to suspend your license for a month. And you have to surrender your tags and registration to a driver';s license office for a month, too. But it hardly stops them from getting into another car. Usually a 2nd offence means 60 days instead of 30. Finally, after a third time of getting caught DUI, you finally get jail time. Which I've noticed, varies from anywhere from 24 hours to 90 days.

Meanwhile, if you've done something like not pay your insurance, they'll do likewise for 90 days on the first offence, and charge you a ton of money. Twice, and they'll fine you heavily and possibly give you 30 days in jail. A third time, they will take your license away for 5 years, along with possible jail time!

The state sees insurance as a way to make money, not paying them makes them madder than hell. Drunk driving is just another zit to squeeze on the face of society...Oh well, it will just go away!

Bullshit.

I wish i had'nt looked at that but i was drawen by an unknown force
That makes me sick theres no excuse for those actions

I was hit by a drunk driver when i was 5 (crossing at the traffic lights) i was hit by this guy doing 55mph in a 30mph zone .
The doctors where amazed at how i survied such an impact .
The injurys i sustaned where a fractured skull, broken legs yes both , right arm broke and a back injury most of which have healed .
But to this day i still have Physio on my Right leg due to the injurys i had taken from this
Sometimes i can't walk the joints seize up and the pain is terrible

Im now 28 and i still have nightmares about that day .
