It's become apparent to me of late that i've become way more obsessed with collecting, rather than driving. I think it's largely because i hit the endurance wall and just don't have the time. Gran Turismo has always been hellishly addictive in many ways, but i was wondering what percentages of you nice folk here at GTPlanet are more biased towards collecting, racing or a balance of the two (if i can figure out how to make this poll option work!)

Thanks for your time.

I do both. I'm so far in the game with little new races that ido collect a lot of cars. But to be able to collect, I gotta race as well. So i guess I do both

I used to only race but once I blew 20 million credits to get the penniless trophy I've been collecting. I finished all the races except the enduros a few weeks ago.

i love a good balance,
but there are no more races to race except the enduros, which i do not have time to do unless i get a day off from work.
so i am forced to grind and look for cars only now, instead of winning new races and using that money to collect.
i need more seasonal events bonus races!!!!!

Racer. I really don't understand the marketplace, full of people duping and trading cars with 0 miles on them. Do they actually drive them, or just live having thousands of virtual cars with 0 virtual miles on them? Makes no sense to me, on a video game.

Thats me the last week or so, its quickly become an obsession, lol.

I'm more of a collector right now but once I have all cars in the game and finish a-spec I'll just go and have fun driving all of my cars online. Not collecting all colors of the X2010/FGT/Veyron/Furai and whatever else though. Already have the best looking colors of them and that's enough for me. :p

I'm kind of in the middle. I have been collecting more cars lately, but i've also started going back and driving some of the cars in my garage that I haven't used because there's nothing much else to do now.

I come from a PC racing sim background where the vast majority of games give you all the cars at the start. It is up to you to learn how to drive them fast and be competitive (offline and online). If Sony/PD can improve the racing portion of the game it would be a winner for me.
:)

I have all the cars and have won all races in Aspec except the Fgt champiosnhip, and Nurburing 24 h, so far.
You get time for both if you really want.

I'm a collector in the sense, I don't like using some of my cars to keep them 0 miles (its a bad habit)

But the cars I do race, I race them alot coming up to 10k miles on the Mazda787B

I definitely "prefer" to just race, while having a small, but nice collection of cars. However in GT5 I've raced these tracks soooooo many times before in GT4 and 5 Prologue that I'm bored to death with them, so it became little more than a car collecting game. I don't think I even bothered to drive about 40% of the cars I bought towards the end.

I prefer to just race, but I use to collect cars and leave them at 0 miles.
I thankfully no longer do that :D

I like racing with different type of cars actually. I love room with 200-800HP power changing everyrace, makes things very fun. So yeah I like both.

Personally, I prefer to race my cars. I'm not the kind of guy to get a car because it's pretty. I don't even like to keep a car in that pristine condition it came in... To me, a car is at its best when its being used, when it's being driven.
That's what a car was made for, in my opinion. It wasn't built with wheels on it to just sit in one place and look pretty, it's been build to move.

And that's what I'll do: Move it :D

I collect to race. I drive every car I collect. If I don't like it, then it's sold.

Other collectors are the reason I may not drive a 0 mile car. I am afraid that I may want to trade that car for something else and some collector will say they don't want it because it has miles on it.

I love a good balance. Keep some novelty cars in my garage, although I race online more often now.

A bit of both... I don't collect cars on purpose, but I sometimes like to buy a car even if I'm not going to drive it.
However, I mostly like games with intense racing action... Like F1 2010...

I buy cars and drive them no point in keeping them unused in my garage. If I like them I keep using them if not then they gather dust.

The last couple of weeks, I've been collecting cars from the UCD. Been redoing some of the championships with different cars to fund the spree (and Bob has been helping out a lot too of course). Up to over 700 different cars now. And some of them are not even Skylines. ;)

Today for the first time, I already owned every car in a fully refreshed UCD. That was very cool and very annoying at the same time. Looks like progress is going to be a lot slower from now on.

When I realised how boring the game is, I started collecting.

When I started collecting and realised I was buying a bunch of standard cars, I quit playing the game.

I have hit a wall with collecting cars. At 302, there is nothing that is popping up in the UCD that interests me. That hasn't stopped me from looking. I have bought the majority of the cars in the new car dealership. The ones that are left that I want are 10 to 20 million credits.

Just let me drive!!

That's how I feel but it's a lie. I also enjoy customizing the things I'm driving, buying 2 copies of the same car to modify one to its full potential and have the other stay stock. The whole virtual marketplace thing doesn't appeal to me though.

I enjoy both driving and collecting with GT. I seriously wish there were more races to run and more premium cars from Europe and the USA to collect. I pretty much have been doing the same thing others have mentioned. Buying multiple copies of specific models, tuning them differently, some of them get upgrades but I always leave at least one of them stock. The grinding needed to keep collecting is getting very boring though!

I was definetly a collector in GT4, but now I spend most of my time racing. I already have almost all the cars I want and I'm not too interested to standard models since most of them are lousy to drive compared to premiums.

I raced until I hit the endurance races - currently 32 A-Spec. I plan on slowly working my way up and through those, eventually hitting 40 to match my B-Spec. Now, I'm going through my garage of about 300 cars and finding a couple races for each one. I might start logging lap times or something geekish.

I hit the UCD every five races to look for anything slightly unusual or fast if I don't already have it, but I usually pass on the race cars since I already have the Minolta, Jag XJR, Toyota GT-one and Sauber Mercedes race cars (also 2xFGT and 2x X2010). That keeps my credits up enough to be able to afford whatever I want when it spawns.

I guess that makes me a somewhat balanced racer/collector.

I drive, but also collect. No mind in leaving cars to gather dust in the garage though, they are made to be driven.

Balance.
But i think i'm to a collector.
I don't mind having the two same car.

Hit the "endurance wall" and have now been collecting. Every car from the UCD gets an engine rebuild and chassis overhaul. They all get a few laps at my favorite track(s). When there's time. :sly:
