hi guys.

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I'm looking to buy a steering wheel. At the beginning I was looking for the G27 but due to the global crisis I guess I'll save a few bucks and buy the DFGT. I was looking for someone to tell me the main differences between both of them. I know the DFGT doesn't have the clutch and has a sequential gear box. But besides that what else is different?

I've realized also that the G2 doesn't have official support on G27 in what ways does that diminish the use of the wheel?

Also, is there a wheel stand specific for DFGT?

Thanks and sorry if this has already been discussed, just couldn't find it :S

EDIT: Also what do you guys think about this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001W0Y4R2/?tag=gtplanetuk-20

The pedals are the main big diference... the g27 pedals are proper pedals and the DFGT pedals are like toy pedals... but other than that the DFGT is a great wheel - I have one and I dont regret it... I cant help you about that thrustmaster because I never tryed one but from the reports on the net I wouldnt buy one...

I was just going to post that exact same wording...

Go for the G27 if you can afford it. I have a G25, but found myself using a DFGT on Monday. It just reminded me how rubbish the pedals on it were. The G25/G27 pedals are far, far superior, as they feel like proper pedals.

Thanks guys.
In what ways does the lack of official support affect the G27?

Thanks guys.

I think its a weaker FFB and not being able to map the buttons... But you can use the DS3 as another controler with it...

Thanks guys.

You can't assign buttons on the wheel, so not all buttons are used and you can't set up the RA menu. I went from a DFP to G27 recently, and trust me, it is worth it. You know about the pedal differences, but the wheel is also bigger, the force feedback is smoother, and there is more precision turning the wheel. My lap times are faster and more consistant since the switch.
As for a wheelstand, I recommend www.wheelstandpro.com. They make standS for both wheels, and are what I use. Worth the money if you can't afford a cockpit or don't have the space.

The wheel is the same size of the DFGT...

I happily use my G25 and it's not really apparent that GT5 doesn't technically support it. If you didn't know it wasn't supported, you wouldn't know as it all functions perfectly.

The G27 is slightly different in that the extra buttons on the wheel don't function so it is readily apparent the G27 is not officially supported, but it still functions perfectly well.

Ive had booth wheels also besides what was already mentioned, the g27 also is leather wrapped, proper paddle shifters and the 6 speed shifter.

Go straight for the G27, because you later want to upgrade maybe and it is better to start right. Pedals on the DFGT are pretty much useless and there is no shifter.

G27 is a good wheel and there are some pretty good deals around the web for it.

The G27 sure looks great and it feels great. I've seen it here at a MediaMarkt store ... :). I guess I'll go for it. ;)

I have DFGT and the wheel itself isnt that bad for the price. the pedals out of the box really suck, but if you open up the base of them and open up the springs on the brake pedal it is SO MUCH BETTER. no more clunking noise and better resistance. Had mine for a year and I love it.

When you say 'open up the springs', do you mean stretch them and replace or something?
I've just got a couple of bits of sponge under mine for a bit more resistance.. Might look into the bungee thing.

I just bought a G27, upgrading from my DFP, the wheel feels larger to me...

went onto youtube to see if there were any comparison videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7hy27Dc3z0
g27 wheels looks larger to me.

and the logitech website side by side image http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/wheels
g27 wheel larger as well.

And agree with what has been said, for me the biggest differences was the pedals. As soon as i felt them compared to my old DFP, i understood why it costs more. I thought the H shifter was going to be the big difference. I'd say its more of a matter of budget. If you can afford it, go for the G27, youll be happy either way.

no doubt go for the g27, you won't regret it. I upgraded from DFP and not looking back..my lap times improved as well because of the improved pedal resistance.
For a stand, I prefer something that has no bar in between my legs; I've tried it and didn't like it especially when using clutch and heel and toe..many ideas can be found in this thread if you want to save some money: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=55048&highlight=cheap+cockpit
if you think this wont be a problem for you, go with a wheel stand pro or similar

He meant the DFGT wheel is the same size as G27.

The G27 is bigger than the DFP.

ah, missed that. Thought the DFP and GT had the same size wheel. But the GT and the G27 both are labeled with a 11inch wheel.

Odd though that the logitech's site still shows the G27 with a visibly larger diamater. marketing eh?

I used this video when I did my pedals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHbqXu-uLKY It really works great and is much better than other mods out there. only thing I did thats not in the video is I opend up BOTH springs for the brake pedal. the black spring is the one that makes the clunking noise so open it up just enough to where the noise goes away. if you open too much (really hard to do) the brake will be to hard.

I love this mod, after I did this and bought the granturgismo paddle shifters I love my DFGT and would never trade it.:sly:

That is very nice find...

Hey guys ;)

OK the moment of truth has arrived. just found out the DFGT at 109€ in a store her ein Portugal. I badly need some honest opinion on this. the best price I can find for G27 is 255€. I play around 10 to 20 hours a week (mostly on weekend). I just want to make the experience a little more realistic and on the way improve my driving skills. Won't I regret the DFGT? Help please :D

Ask yourself if you need the buttons on the steering wheel or not.
Myself - I want the buttons on the DFGT so i can rip the handbrake or the reverse gear easier then having to delay and reach over to the D pad.
Then there is the problem with the cheaper pedals :guilty:

richyo

Holding triangle for reverse whilst turning the wheel is awkward.

Better too select reverse gear on a g27 IMHO.

Got the G27 for 200€. Waiting for it to arrive. :D

Where did you get it for that price? Im also in Portugal... and the best I could find was 245€

For that price you wont find a better wheel IMO. I sure you wont regret it ;)

Hi Portuguese friend ;).

I bought it from a guy at www.leiloes.net.

There is also a G25 there for an excellent price. Check it out mate.

Thank you very much ;)

Is the G27 you bougth used? and if so is it still within warranty?

Theres a G25 for 150€... and another one within warranty for 130€ starter price to 200€ buy now... but Im always very suspecious when it comes yo used even though Im a Leiloes.net user (mainly for games)

I must say that I bought my PS3 used there 2 and half years ago and it is still working like a charm...

I got really lucky. Bought one that was originally bought at Fnac (madeira) on 16/11/2011 witch means it is almost brand new, Of course there is the risk associated with everything you buy online but I figured well, I will never buy it for a price above 200€ so I took a shot at it.

Nice. Just read this thread about a half hour ago, already did the mod. Very easy, longest part was looking for my pliers,:). Prior to this, I was using the bungie and now it feels as good if not better and the bungie is not in the way, thanks again for the find.
