Driving Force GT Wheel - How noisy is it?

My 40GB fat went a couple of days ago, a lot of PS3's are going YLOD now. Id advise anyone who has an older model to keep it dust free and in clear air!

Makes no difference, I did that and it still went.

I switched it on this morning just to try it and it came on as normal for about 30 seconds and then shut off, so that leads me to think the motherboard & HDD are ok (fingers crossed) so hopefully its going to be the thermal compound on the CPU / GPU because it seems that as soon as it warms up it dies (heat isn't dissipating properly because of the now dodgy thermal compound so it shuts off)

Does anyone else know if that logic sounds about right? (Just that I can't find any specifics on the reason for the YLOD)

don't mean to hijack this thread, but I wanted to ask if using the wheel without power (so no feedback) could damage the mechanism in any way?

What noise ? All I hear is this vette's v8 :) ....... But really it's not that loud . If someone is sitin right next to you reading a book it maybe loud to them , but you wont hear a thing flying around a turn doin 160 mph . The only thing I don't like is the deadzone when drivin super fast . Its only bad(the shakin)with a few cars on gt5 at super high speeds .(290mph) I would recommend the DFGT it gets 👍👍

My wheel wouldn't work if it wasn't plugged in? I forgot to plug the power in when I first used it, thought it just worked off of USB tbh, got into a race and the car wouldnt steer, plugged the power in and walla it worked.

tried it last night, had it plugged in, then removed the power cable, wheel kept working perfectly without power...

👍

the wheel should be able to work with just usb power, I remember even an older Driving Force EX worked without the power cable.

Getting back to the issue, there shouldn't be damage from using it without power right?

The DFGT is a tad noisy but I can live with it. It's a great wheel for the price point. The noise only gets noticeable when you need to make sudden, aggressive turns, like a high-speed chicane or double-hairpin.

Besides, when you've got a kick-assk 5.1 home theatre setup, the point is rendered pretty moot :)

Compared to the DFP it's downright quiet! There is a noise, but it's not distracting, and in the heat of the race you eventually just forget it's there, or it become part of the game to you. Worst case scenario, turn up the volume on your TV!

Right I haven't tried going racing yet, or any extended periods of time, but now there is no yellow light (touch wood) and the PS3 has switched on fine and it has sent / received cars so hopefully we're back to normal (once again, touching wood lol).

Back to the DFGT :)

just to add though, the wheel & pedals are both nice to use and they are both very sturdy. the brake has more resistance than the throttle and both have a very nice feel to them. buttons work great aswell ... so it is a good wheel for anyone who is considering buying one.

I dont regret having it as my first steering wheel in video games. Its great! I also like the button layout on it, its very convenient.

As for the pedals, have you tried to seek more resistance from them? Try putting some bungee/elastic cords around them. It really is an improvement and you'll enjoy it more!

Just a tip though, if you're going to do this mod, dont go for this kind of set up (see below)

It has great resistance with this set up, but if you press down on the gas pedal there is a great chance your brake will be pressed down too.
