Driving Force Pro + GT4 Bundle?

After using the search function I found nothing about this. Seeing as how Namco is offering an Ace Combat 5: Unsung War, bundle: the literal game & a joystick/throttle, I thought I'd ask about this. The price of the bundle is $129.99, which is about what the joystick/throttle retails for. :)

I know GT4 will sell in droves, regardless if an offer like the one above exists or not, but I know Logitech would stand to benefit greatly. Being that the Driving Force Pro retails for $149.99. Not a price that your average gamer would spring for something so specific (driving games only).

In a local paper I've seen an ad by toys 'r us offering a steering wheel/floorpedal accessory for $10.00 if the person pre-orders GT4 @ $49.99 It made me wonder why something like this doesn't exist for Logitechs Signature steering wheel (made specifically for GT4). It would be a way to market a pricey product and sell them in droves. They could of course appeal further by offering a special/limited edition, version of the DFP.

Maybe they could offer it in 2 or 3 dual-color schemes: blue/white, red/white, green/white, etc... They could offer wheels, pedals, baseboard, shifter as interchangeable parts in the future. They could offer 2 or 3 different versions of these parts. Of course the architecture of the DFP would have to be modified. 1 item bought = several more via customizations = more money. Tap into a tuner-like market whereby people customize and individualize. They could then bundle coupons with the package for other logitech/sony items. In that way they could point a consumers eye in other areas of their business.

Please write your thoughts on this.

Sincerely,

dammit, i really wanted the gear stik on the lfet side of the wheel unit too, cos im english, and we all drive on the left and sit on the right and change gear with our left hands here, unless you are an actual racing driver, then you may drive left hand drive cars..... but im not, im just a middle aged guy with a seat built specifically for the beautiful game, and i want my gear stik on the left!
i asked about a bundle and i looked everywhere as well as checking with all the major distributors in my country to see if there was any news to say it was happening for the games release here in december, but the word on the industry floor is that no-one has heard anything of a proposed bundle happening and if it were to, then they should know by now...

The shift stick on the left would be cool to have :) I never thought about that, both a US version and a Euro version. Or just a single version where you could place the shift stick either or. Do Euro cars have their pedal configuration (accelerator and brake) reversed also?

It's a shame nothing's been done or said so far about this topic. A lot of people are thinking about, and doing, their upgrades to the Driving Force Pro in anticipation of the soon-to-be-released, GT4. Both Sony and Logitech could be capitalizing on this interest right now, securing new customers and sales. The release date of GT4 is also in december and everyone knows it will be bought not only by the die hard GTP people, but by people just buying christmas gifts for their loved ones. They could get even more sales of the DFP in this way if they play their cards correctly.

Sorry for posting in such a marketing type standpoint, but it's in hopes that someone of influence will read it and realize it might pay well to have g a DFP + GT4 bundle. One never knows who is reading!!!

btw: thank you for replying, vexd!

seems like a good idea to me, id go for it. :) also id love it if the shifter was on the left hand side, being from australia and all im used to using my left hand to change gears.

I too have been wondering why so few places are stocking the DFP. Amazon, dabs etc don't seem to have it. I'd go for a bundle if it was around £100 although £115 from the link above seems pretty good. They seem to go for around £85 along and the game for £30 so it's about the same price as the 2 separate items.
Something for the christmas list I think :)

The cheapest I've seen the game is £27 including 2nd class postage.

The only thing thats stoping me buy the DFP is that the stick is on the right...I as I drive on the right I wish that they would do a left stick version!

BTW.....Do you think that I should pre-order GT4 from GAME (uk) for £32.99??...I don't know if it will actually be cheper than that in the end because GAME still think its an online game.....should I go for it?......what do you think...?

Thank you, This is the kind of bundle I was looking for, just need an american version of it! :)

Driving Force Pro (DFP) is the latest version of the wheel. Driving Force was the multi color version, also from logitech.

I see on amazon.com that they have it for $129.99 with free shipping. I haven't seen anything noting it was not in stock or investigated further though.

So far, the cheapest price on the DFP by a big retailer seems to be Target, who is selling it for $119.99 (not sure if it's in stock either, the ad seems to imply they aren't...yet). :)

BTW: Many thanks for all the responses. I know in some circles in the more mainstream bulletin boards, industry people will drop in now and then. I guess it's up to a specific retailer, rather than the 2 makers of GT4 and the DFP to bundle something together (like what we see above?).

WEll for the shift stick on the left, i too would like to see it, even tho i'm from Canada (left side drive)... the ideal idea would be to have it modular (left or right)... but then again, i'm pretty sure its an easy mod to do on the wheel. There's been people modding it already, it must be possible to mount a wooden frame to hold the shifter on both sides, the wires sure arent a problem...

Afaik only we brits drive on the left in europe. Other countries include India, Japan, Australia and I think NZ. I've seen 2 model numbers on Logitech's site so maybe one is a left sticked one?
There are still paddles though ofcourse :)

I don't care if I get a DFP, Vauxhall Nova or even a monkey with a siren on its head (those of you who have seen the latest MGS3 screens at ign will know what I mean ...) for free, just so long as I get GT4!

Not to revive an old thread, but I felt this might help the people wanting to purchase both GT4 and the much touted, Driving Force pro. :)

http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4328755?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Outpost is selling the bundle, without shipping, for $149.99. Thanks to errors on their part in advertising this bundle. , I got the wheel and gt4 for $117.21 with shipping. Right after that happened the web pages that showed this price went offline, I couldn't post it here. Which, I would've liked to, knowing many are interested (sorry about that).

Still, $149.99 is still a great price for this bundle.

If the url doesn't work, just type in "driving force pro" when searching the site, it'll bring up the bundle.
