Driving In the Rain, Massive Help Needed

I have two questions, one about me and one about the AI.

1) I can push my car to the limit in the dry no problem, and I enjoy driving in the wet in F1 2010 (with no aids).
But when I drive in the wet in GT5, I'm always spinning.
I brake and accelerate in a straight line, but the problem is, when I brake in a straight line (very early too) and then turn the wheel for the corner, I get massive oversteer and then spin. The only option is to go even slower, but then I get overtaken.

Any help?

2) When I race in the rain, at the end of the first lap, all the AI go into the pits to change their tyres, why?
It's as if they started the race on dry tyres.

Any help?

I had my first wet race yesterday round Monza and instead of opting for full wet tyres I went for intermediates. After lap one I pitted for full wets (as did the rest of the field). I sped off and left them for dead. About about 3 laps later they all pitted again and suddenly started catching me at the rate of 4 seconds per sector. My times were the same, and it was still raining yet for what ever reason they had more speed than I did on their new tyres.

I don't like the fact you have nothing to base your tyre choice on. All you get is a preview of a wet or dry track. There needs to be more information before the race, and even allow you to try difference tyres before you start the race.

I use soft tires, seems much better. I always putting my car on full revs then just adjust my speed throught the corner! thats it. I must admit, its very demanding the first time i drove it via cockpit, As i would prefer driving in cockpit when its raining. Or if you can't really drive in wet use the "PUMP IT" method, just pump and pump throughout mid corners! don't let go off your throttle because your cars will understeer and you can feel its building its understeer into a corner and bye bye! DNF! And that's what i like in Gran Turismo 5, It have so so so so so so so so so somany flaws, but yamauchi-san perfected the racing experience on rain.

The AI will start a race with whatever tyres they had equipped in the last race (concerns championships), so if the last track was dry they will pit after one lap to change to rain tyres ... if the last race was wet they will start with rain tyres and pit after the first round to equipp the best possible tyres ...

To elaborate on my earlier statement about the ai being morons...

I was in the final series in extreme, entered lemans race and didn't notice the wet. So I pitted with the entire field after lap 1 to put on my full rain tires.
The next race was dry and this time I remembered to change before the race. The AI didn't. They pitted after lap 1 for dry tires giving me a hefty lead.

So like I said. They're morons.

Edit: Varegg beat me to the punch...

Okay, thanks everyone about the AI question.
Is there something wrong with my driving technique in the rain though?

Maybe try rolling the throttle on slowly when coming out of corners? And the brake bias will really help with snap overseers under heavy braking

I'm rolling in the braking zone for 50 metres with no input at all, as soon as I steer for the corner after 50 metres of no input, I spin,

Double-check your tires are rain. And be easy on the turn in. Smooth is the way man.

I've tried all racing tyres :(
Someone here mentioned they drive with Racing Softs :dunce:
Would difficulty differ from car to car?
I'm driving with the FGT which has more grip in the dry but seems to spin more in the wet.

Oh no wonder. Dude you MUST use rain tires in the wet. And that car is very light plus very powerful plus rear engine... That combo makes it touchy. Practice makes perfect.

I did that with rally, but practice is key.

Do you use any aids?

I've tried aids off (with ABS 1 of course), all aids on default, and aids on full.

I've tried all rain tyres too, including the intermediates.

There are two types of rain tires - Rain, for when it's really wet, and just like in F1 2010, intermediates for when it's only moderately wet. I can only assume that they're pitting to switch from one to the other. I can't imagine they'd be stupid enough to start a race in the rain on dry tires. Well, yeah, I can imagine that I guess.

read Varegg's earlier post, that was the answer to the question.

Some already quoted but;
- switch brake bias more forwards (on the fly)
- turn up the TCS (on the fly)
- use smooth throttle & brake control (the Elise Top Gear event is a good trainer)
- just practise in the Wet (the AMG wet events are good trainers, you are using dry tyres on a wet surface but it still helps your technique)

or, if you are only doing wet races in the a-spec series then just stay on slicks. But then you will be in trouble if you are ever racing when the track option is set to 'real' rather than 'low'.

Another question, sometimes, when I'm on a straight at Circuit de la Sarthe for example, on the straight, when I turn the car a little, I spin.
This happens on the straight where you need to go flat out.
And the straight has a few slight bends in it that you need to turn for.

If you did the AMG tests, the text window mentions not using the standard dry racing line when it's wet. The rubber laid down makes the track even more slick, which will compromise braking, acceleration, and cornering. Sometimes you'll be fine, but if you're having issues such as you are, then look into changing your lines.

If anything else fails, just bump up your TCS up if you got a really powerful car.

I set my TCS to 7, even 8 if I want to preserve my tires on the C9.

Still feathering the throttle and being conservative on the approaches is the best bet to navigate a full wet track.

So I should go slightly off the line?
Surely going of the line would give my the wrong approach into the corner.

Try normal tires. I had better grip in the rain with racing softs.
Rain tires didn't work for me on that occasion.
La Sarthe. The AI did pit when they came round for there second lap. They put the wrong tires on.

Even the game doesn't know what tires to put on.

Not necessarily, when it comes to rain a different approach is likely required.

At La Sarthe coming up to the Mulsanne's corner, I take a wider approach to the turn and then turn in onto the curbing towards Indianapolis. This wide approach allows me to smoothly turn into the corner while feathering the throttle.

If I took the turn like the line suggested, I would have probably ended up in the gravel or spun out.
