Have tried driving with all HUD features turned off. It adds a whole new depth to the game, best for premium cars with a read out of what gear you're in. No HUD telling you when to break and what gear to use for a corner adds a whole new depth where you have to rely on your own sense of speed more. I suggest people give it a go, I think its much better way to play GT5.

Totally agree, although when doing an endurance ive noticed the fuel gauges haven't worked.

I liked it but I would still like a lap count/lap time display. (Terrible memory I have)

That's how I ran the first endurance race. Premium NSX type R with no aids, no mods, not even tires. That car is perfect as is.

Agree totally (well, as long as the car has a gear readout, like the R8 below)

I agree as well, I did this first in a free run with a McLaren F1, and it was one of the most lifelike and intense moments of virtual driving I've ever experienced.

What I'd wish for however is a fully configurable overlay display. Some cars have no gear indicator, and I for one would also like to see split times. It would be great if they were to make an options list where you can choose every item of the overlay display to be switched on or off. That way, everyone could make his very own reality.

How did she handle on rims only? :)

On topic: I absolutely couldn´t agree more. This is one improvement that I am soooo happy about. It adds so much immersion and costs so little (programming wise).

I too would rather have a fully customizable hud, but mainly for the standard cars. I really don´t like driving the bumper cam with nothing in front of me. Feels to me more like flying than driving.

It would be nice to have the option to just keep the revcounter and speedometer.

Very easy and vivid way to implement that:

An options menu page with an exemplary cockpit and all overlay displays. Then let the cursor be able to jump to every single item and make a drop down menu with "on" and "off". Make all removed items almost completely seethrough to demonstrate what your individual cockpit would look like (or probably offer a preview function). Do the same page for standard cars without cockpits, and you're done. :)

EDIT: or even let people have individually configured displays for all of the possible views. There are only a handful, so this shouldn't be much of a problem.
