Driving with no sound...

I tried a couple of races with the amplifier off and no sound at all.

I did really well, getting around Tokyo in what for me is a record!

Has anyone else tried driving with no sound? Do you think it helps you to concentrate on the road more, and help with lap times? Or am I just "on form" today??:)

I know you need sound driving manually, but with AT, driving without the distraction of sound is quite an experience!
 
I try to use the sound to change gears, I lose focus when I have to look at the bottom to see a red light flashing.
 
I cannot drive at all without being able to hear the car. I have the music off and the sound turned up.

+1. And I'm HORRIBLE at split screen Arcade races with friends. Too much sound = fail. No sound = fail. Music = always off.
 
I cannot do it with no sound. I'm simply terrible when I can't hear what's going on.

How would I shift? How could I hear my tires start to scrub?
 
Yep, first thing I do with racing games is turn off race music. No sound would make me feel like that one time I tried on my sisters.........nevermind, but it would make me feel wrong.
