Driving without driving aids! HELP!!

I was going to say use L2 for brake but that won't help with throttle control. I normally brake fully so square for braking is fine but I use L2 to brake and R2 to accelerate.

This works too. 👍
It's mainly just personal preference on controls.

I too find L2 and R2 to be better than the stick for gas and brake. Not only do you (IMO) have finer control, but you can switch between them instantly with that same amount of control, and can even use both at the same time when desired(for example, to help free locked-up wheels while still decelerating or to blip the throttle to help with downshifting). Of course, I'm no expert anymore with a DS3, but it's not gas and brake I have a problem with after using a wheel now for years, it's steering.

If you only ever use the brake as an on-off switch, you are missing out on half of the fun of high-performance driving, even with ABS on.

Oh and I find using X and Square(or Square and O, or whatever works) for the gearshifting is easier than L1/R1 when using the triggers.

I'll be the radical one then. Buy a '96 Elise, pick your favorite track, select comfort medium tires and practice until you can control that rear end. Then try a Nissan 370Z on the same tires.

Yep. I use R2 accelerate, L2 brake. What about you?

Thank you for the "+1"

You're welcome.

Ditto to both.

R2 = Accelerate
L2 = Brake
X = Gear up
[] = Gear down

*Gas and brake can also be used at the same time.
Very handy for trying to power round a tight bend, and not really possible to do if you use X or O button.

Oh yes!!

I like your style my friend.

👍

Yeah right. :lol:

^^

If you want to be a lazy racer, put everything up high and follow the Racing Guide for Five Year Olds.
Or you can be a man if you really want to learn, TCS 0 or 1, ABS 1, everything else off and Sports Tyres.

I don't think it's a macho thing. More like a fun issue. I just fall asleep with the aids on (literally) - with them off, Im in tune with the car, on the edge.

Instead of Comfort Medium tires use Comfort Hard Tires.

That's the whole point. It's the fun factor.

Well, that's the problem. Racing Soft Tires & full aids... you might as well be driving a sofa. LOL

Full aids and racing softs is tedious and boring.
Aids off and comforts or sports gives a LOT more fun, and you can learn more.

I totally agree!
Actually, I try to go for races where I can't win! I think it's more fun to have to fight like crazy, to move up in the field, than it is to tune my car until I can beat them all. JGTC cars are just plain boring, the races are too easy, and the cars present no challenge, they're just too easy.

Can someone help me understand how to drive without my driving aids on. I mostly spin out or hit something. With lower horsepower cars I do better than the strong cars. I don't even know how to get started with this project.:crazy:

Good question! I have the same problem as well. I've been so used to driving with aids in the game proper but when you start racing online and the aids are deliberately turned off, I always end up last place in the race...hahaha. thanks for all the advice too, it's really informative.:)

low grip teaches you more, making 2 corners because you have immense tyres then randomly spinning out and having no idea why teaches you nothing. It's just a steeper learning curve trying to race too fast too soon.

I totally agree!

Plus, it is quite irritating having set high the traction control and not having all the power released on your wheels when you give it.

Actually, I have been downgrading my tyres lately, & its interesting I have to fight like crazy to keep my position with nannies off and low spec tyres; more in keeping with the PP level of my AI peers and tyres too. I love experimenting with lower PP cars than the competition to see which ones are giant killers. I'm loving the F86 concept car at the minute, it slides around all over the place, drifts beautifully but is manageable. I got 2nd in the Supercar Eifel seasonal and can only currently manage 5th in a MP4 McLaren which has much higher PP. Both using hard tyres and no nannies but for ABS1. This will be my next challenge; to go ABS0. I feel am a bit hampered using the PS3 controller, no wheel avlble (yet). :-)

(a bit off topic... but here goes...) The thing is with this "toy" is that it's so infinitely variable even with just one car you can fiddle with so much.

In some ways the game could have been a smash (if it didnt have to compete with the "more is better" general market mentality which is prevalent) if it had one car and one track and all else is strictly unlockable like an "advanced license" scenario. That could extend gameplay so much more. As it is there is a short availability/funds/experience issue at the start which soon gives way to a mass of available cars and tracks and money (now with big seasonal payouts) that many users become confused at the lack of focus... it's actually so vast in playability that its a bit daunting to stay focussed on what to do next; ie learning to really DRIVE and get better at discovering nuances in each car.

I think the options to have multiple tracks and 100's of cars is great but I'd really prefer to be restricted (in hindsight, now having 400+ cars :-) ) on what I can drive so the new experience of driving and learning to get the best out of ever more powerful cars is all the more exquisite.
