I've been having this problem with my controllers for a while now and I can't figure it out.

Symptoms-
-Some buttons won't work
-When repeatedly pressing a button to try to get it to work another is triggered. (i.e. - Trying to press left on D-Pad and X is somehow triggered)
-If the controller is lightly hit (sometimes even setting it on the table does this...I have to treat it like an explosive...) or squeezed tightly a random button is triggered also. Sometimes repeatedly.

What I usually do to fix it is violently shake the controller back and forth a few times and it doesn't do it it again for a while (usually 1-2 days, sometimes hours, sometimes weeks). Have any of you encountered this problem?

The exact same thing happened to my DS3. Even when I tried to charge the controller it seemed to flip out more. I used to hit my controller on the handle and it fixed it for a while, but then it spazzed out again.

I had it from 2008-2012. I broke it after getting annoyed when I was racing and the car or camera spazzed out because of the controller. I didn't know any fix for it. I even tried looking it up and nothing helped me so I just broke it :dopey:

I bought all three of mine between 2009-2010. The first two did it within months although I didn't mind it much. This last one I bought with the purchase of GT5 after trading in GT5P and its starting to do the same as the others. I race with a DFGT so it doesn't bother me on GT5 but it can get frustrating with other games. Especially when it happens while I'm on Netflix... Is there a solution to this problem though?

I have the same problem occasionally. It comes and goes. No fix for it that I know of.

I buy all my controllers at best buy and get the 2 year warranty for 10 dollars more.

As soon as a button sticks or wears in the slightest I bring it right back and get a free one. Once I'm close to two years I buy a new warranty!!

I get like 4 controllers out of the 10.00 warranty! They don't care and never ask any questions.

I got the same problem few months ago, I was playing then suddenly the X button is being triggered and I wasn't pressing it and the square button and amazing enough that the steering wheel is turning right all of a sudden. I returned it back to EBGAMES and got my self a replace controller and still works good. If I were you try and fix your old one if you have the knowledge or simply buy a new one with extra warranty.

I haven't owned a DS3 for long enough for one to break. They all keep ending up in the basement paired with my roommate's PS3.

That's a viable option. I'll look into it.

Its sad that we have to resort to warranties though. What happened to well-built hardware? You'd expect it to be well-built for close to $60 anyways... :/

I'll disassemble the controllers to try to find a fix. Im thinking that it MIGHT be due to dust getting caught up between the inner plastic backing and the circuit "mat". Maybe even the rubber backings are causing it? Im not sure. I'll deticate tomorrow to finding a fix.

Yeah. It's kind of disappointing that even my DS2 PS2 controller from 2005 is still working perfectly. I thought a DS3 would be as good.

Shoot, my DS2 is from when my brother bought his PS2 brand new back in 2004. It still works fine except for the springs in the analog sticks. Plus, I just bought a replacement for less than $10. Its ridiculous...

Yeah, my DS2 lasted me quite a long time. Some guy here said that if you still have your old DS2 buy an adaptor (under $10) and just plug that in your ps3 should work.

I think u just need to buy a new 1

I've bought three. It's unacceptable. I'm trying to figure this out on my own and if all else fails...
