I've been having a rather difficult time deciding what to change for DTM Season 3 that I plan to start in March, some racers have already given me some suggestions but I would like to have some more input. Any input will be considered!

Ideas on the table:
  • 2 car classes (Modern cars year 2000 and up; Classic cars Year 1999 and below)
  • New points system based from the real life DTM championship
  • Different racing setups
  • Better presentation/promotion of the series
  • Shorter Season
  • New Penalty System
  • No limits on how many drivers can use 1 car
  • New qualifying system

Ideas already set for Season 3
  • Schedule shuffling
  • General rule updates/changes
  • Longer Races
  • Different Tire Wear

Ideas not going to DTM Season 3
  • None. :)

Re: Schedule

I don't know if the final DTM Schedule for 2008 is out yet, but are you gonna have a look at that and/or the 2007 schedule so that you can get some sort of idea what you can get a frame of a idea as to what your Season 3 Schedule should look like?

Re: The cars

Maybe some testing by all who are interested in doing it can be done as an attempt to get the cars in each class to be as closely competitive as possible. And if also possible during the season make some adjustments to the cars to keep it as closely competitive.

Re: Presentation

Maybe some banners can be added to the first post in each thread? I do that for the Clio Cup series.;) Also, are you going to keep using the same maps that you used for S2? If you like, you can use AMG.'s maps.

I'm not sure, obviously not all the courses in the real DTM series are in GT4, but I could improvise and put in some similar tracks into the schedule.

Maybe during the preseason testing I could have some of the drivers do some of that.

RACECAR has already sent my some example settings based from the rules in the real DTM series.

A shorter season would be fine.Fourteen or so races...too much.
Free car choice also would be great.
A penalty system can give the chance to everyone for a win.
These few things can help to avoid the attrition of the drivers.

Free car choice?

Could you explain that a little more, I'm assuming that you want cars raging from the 320i touring car all the way to the Sauber Mercedes C9.

All your other ideas are good though. 👍

No, I just trying to say that there is no problem when everyone or almost everyone wants to use the Red Bull A4 for example or any other car within the DTM era.
In the second season I must use the Opel Astra because that was the only available car.You said that's what I need to use and using something that not really fits your style doesn't make you happy.

Ah, I get it now. :)

As co-steward of the series, I do agree with the free car choice. The other ideas I had I'm testing and trying to balence them out at the moment. Also, I was thinking of using the Knockout qualifying like the real DTM, using the Qualifying, practice, Warm-up and Race schedule seen in earth's Formula GT Championship. Take a Look at the first post:
German Grand Prix.

It uses this system:

Free practice
Qualifying
Race Warmup
German Grand Prix

Using this system, We can use it in this format:

Session 1

Session 2

Session 3

Race

This will work by using a numeral pattern depending on the number of participants. For example, if there are 16 competitors, they will be eliminated in groups of four. Likewise, I'm hoping I can convince Earth to have it to his series(since real life DTM qualifying is based on F1's system)

Nice 👍

I'll think about it.

Here's another thought as to a S3 suggestion.

Last night, I was talking w/another GTP member(Ren-Tec) about Tire Wear. If the length of the races are to be extended for S3, wouldn't it make sense to change the Tire Wear to Mild? If you get a chance to watch the DTM series on SPEED in the next few weeks, have a look at how many laps the drivers go in their cars between pit stops to change tires and add fuel to their cars. My guess is that a Mild setting will give us a chance for us to go at least the same distance between stops.

Also, having all the compounds at our disposal isn't a bad idea, and I would like to see that continue for S3. :)

I've seen it, and it would make perfect sense as well.

👍

Hmmm, wacky idea this, we could do 14 races (or however many it was) again for this year but we could change it so we do 2 long races (18-20 laps) as the first two rounds, then a sprint race somewhere (6-8 laps) for the 3rd round....Just a thought, don't expect you to integrate it! :)

That idea would fall under the longer races idea that I already posted.

I have some of the schedule put together that I think could work:

RD 1 - El Capitan
RD 2 - Trial Mountain
RD 3 - Apricot Hill Raceway
RD 4 - Opera Paris
RD 5 - Special Stage Route 5
RD 6 - Grand Valley Speedway
RD 7 - Deep Forest
RD 8 - Nurburgring
RD 9 - Autumn Ring
RD 10 - Motorland
RD 11 - Hong Kong
RD 12 - Twin Ring Motegi Road Course
RD 13 - Laguna Seca
RD 14 - Circuit De La Sarthe

Some of these rounds were based on lap times that are close to the real circuits.

And I also have the technical specs put together:

Hp: 470
Kg: 1020
"Minimum weight is 1,020 kilogram.
Electronic driver aids such as ABS or traction control are forbidden."

And finally based on these tech specs, here are the proposed final specs for the M-Klasse cars:

Audi A4 DTM 466 HP 1015 KG
Audi TT-R 464 HP 1015 KG
Mercedes CLK Touring Car 468 HP 1020 KG
Opel Astra Touring Car 466 HP 1020 KG

And just for the heck of it, A fancy selection page for the Future Sign-up thread:

I have things well taken care of with the graphics and such.

The schedule looks good so far, but I was thinking of having 14 rounds like last season.

Any chance you'll be able to put in a few more Real-World tracks? And I mentioned something to TS sometime ago about some courses in GT that are comparable to some of the tracks in the DTM series that I believe could be used.;)

Yep, I have two I'm gonna add when I'm done testing.
