Anyone know if you gain an advantage from using a wheel in this game ?

I cant use a wheel myself and I want to race online and know i have a chance of winning, but some games in the past wheel users have had a massive advantage even recently with codemasters F1 wheel users were 10 seconds a lap quicker than dual shock.

Honestly it allows you to feel more of the game. You can do just fine with a controller but the wheel just unlocks a new dimension try it out.. Its not hard at all.

It is when you cant use your feet to do the peddles m8 lol

Disabled people play games too you know ;)

Gt is a simulator, having a wheel makes it feel more "real"
When I got mine it really did make Gt a whole different game for me, it is now much more enjoyable! I'm not saying it wasn't without, but I find it much more fun now.

You will do fine online, I think the majority of people don't use wheels, but they really are missing out imo!
If you say you can't use a wheel, then I would honestly say stick with it, if you have one, I was terrible when I first got mine, much slower. Tbh I'm not sure if I'm any faster now as I rarely use the controller but like I said it really has become a better game for me since the wheel.

IMO you have a serious advantage when playing with a wheel, mainly because you have a lot more accuracy for acceleration, braking and steering.

Although a dualshock has analog input using the analogue stick and R2/L2, it is still no match for a wheel. However I do find that driving in a straight line with a controller is easier because of no force feedback pulling your steering wheel to either side (try it: floor the accelerator without touching the wheel while going in a straight line and watch the wheel go haywire)

I do know of some people (and 1 guy in particular) who are just as fast with a dualshock as with a wheel in F1 2010, which not a real sim, but still quite sim-ish. But in general, for sim racing games wheel users will always have a great advantage over controllers.

AHhhhh I understand. Maybe there is another person out there with your similar situation that could help.

I was thinking get a wheel and some how remap the buttons to allow you to use the buttons on the wheels as the accelerator and brakes.

I had a dfp for a couple of years, and shortly before I got GT5 it finally broke down completely. I ordered a Fanatec Gt3 RS 2.0, but it took a while until it finally was delivered.

So I have to play the first week and a half of my GT5 experience with a controller.

I can honestly say that you do not only have an advantadge with a wheel, you have tons and tons of more fun. You are so much more in control of the car and have a lot more feel for what is going on through ffb.

If there is any way you can think of, try and get a wheel (used, ebay, whatever). You will not regret it.

If only there was a wheel where the 'shifter paddles' are analogue and could be used as accelerator/brakes it might just work, but I don't know about such a wheel (and then it also has to be compatible with a PS3)

As for the fun-factor, I think you can have just as much fun with a controller as with a wheel. I know of persons with wheels playing online, shouting and screaming after they crashed (either self-inflicted or by an innocent 'kiss' from another player) as if someone just stole all of their savings, and at the same time people having lots of fun using a controller (probably on their way to 'kiss' the car of one of the wheel players :sly:)

A good pad driver will be quicker than a bad wheel driver.

A good pad driver will be slower than a good wheel driver.

Wheels will allow you to run quicker laps once you get used to it.

I don't know if it offers an advantage, i think a really good DS3 user would still beat a mediocre wheel user, but as has been said the level of immersion in the game increases significantly with the FFB. Having had one for just under a week now i'm really enjoying the feedback about the car the wheel provides, when it's losing grip etc.

Logitech did a wheel which is discontinued but can still be bough online, it's the Driving Force Pro I think (it's a wireless one). It doesn't have pedals, instead the paddles are analogue and are used for accel/brake. There are buttons on the front for gear shifts but I don't think they're that nice to use, so AT would probably be the way to go.

If you're in the UK Maplins are still selling this wheel for £25 - for that price it's a bargain.

You can't buy it online but use the store checker to check for stock near you.

Yeah you'd think there would be an option for those that aren't able to use a steering wheel. I'm sure there would be a huge market for a wheel that was disability friendly.

OP I wouldn't look to much into wheel users if there are no options for you. I've raced a few wheel guys and I was still able to win, so there's no reason you can't take out a few guys with wheels yourself online.
