I read through tons and tons of sites regarding suspension tuning, be it about real race cars or polyphony's virtual ones. Still i got loads of questions left... and i would like to discuss some in this thread. Before that i need to know two things. Admittedly i didnt search too hard, if theres already an answer.

1) Is Gran Turismo 4 just using the left vibration motor?
2) Is there a bug that makes the vibration stop sometimes?

I think, its just my pad broken. but thats a shame.
each of my pads has been dropped ONCE. and each of my pads exhibits this behaviour.

Please share your experience with me, so i can go after this little idea i got.

Welcome to GT Planet, hope you enjoy your time here.

Your first point in regard to GT4 suspension tuning, a number of threads already exist to discuss almost every aspect of GT4 tuning, give these a go.

GT4 & Brakes

Tuning Guides & tuning discussion

Alignment values discussion

Spring Rates

Dampers (Locked but worth a read)

Being honest everything you need should be in one of those threads.

In regard to the controller issue, I must admit I have never noticed it working on just one side, so it may well be a problem with your controllers. That said I do normally use a wheel.

To help you out I am going to edit the title of the thread to remove the suspension part (as this can be discussed in the other threads) and move it to the main GT4 forum as you should get more answers in regard to the controller issue their.

Mine hardly works at all on asphalt tracks, mainly when I hit the barriers. Try it on a gravel track, they give the most feedback.

ok the thing is this... i noticed different behaviour of the vibration according to the shock settings.

i think none of the guides really describes how the vibration correlates to the suspension. did you notice, that even braking feels different, in terms of rumbling, depending on how your springs and dampers are set?

and yes, you can actually USE this kind of information to get a feel for how nice your setup manages the bumpier tracks..

anyhoo, i cant remember one second where the right motor (i think its there for the more lowfrequency rumbling) was activated... sometimes it feels as if it were working, but most probable its just vibrating over from the left side.

now if, besides me, about 3 or 4 people with seethrough pads could give it a go, would be very nice.

Go download and read my GT4 tuning guides (link in my signature) as I most certainly do use 'feel' as a very important part of tuning, particularly dampers (the dampers thread also covers a lot on the importance of feel) 👍

oh yeah, you got me there, i DID download them, but reading them page by page in PS was a pita, since i HATE the acrobat reader :) well thats just my fault there.

but for instance that "feel" part in the dampers thread sounded like ... the feel of the car... you know, how it steers and such....(i.e does it over/understeer generally, does it do strange things while accelerating, but not while decelarting? is nice and tame and neutral...)

anyhoo, am i the only guy, that during 4 parts of GT, using several controllers, only has felt the left motor actuating?

Uhh then print them out???

The feel in the dampers thread and in the guides (and in the springs thread) is not just the feel of the car, but also how it feels to the hand (via DS2 or wheel) over rumbles strips, etc.

I mean in the first guide I actually suggest driving over rumble strips as part of the damper tuning process.

I've never noticed only one motor working. I have used 3 different controllers and all have vibration on both sides. One pad did lose both vibration motors after extended use and i had to buy a new one.

The only thing I know is that the Dualshock2 controllers are bad quality.
Heck, I went through 4 brand-new ones.
On one, all electronics in it died. The next, the dualshock rotors broke. And the two after that collapsed inside.

I've gone through 2, it seemed that the wiring connection couldn't take the abuse I gave it. In total, I've went through 4 (One of them shorted out and the other one mysteriously quit working)

mine is borked too
like if it vibrates too much like i go over grass, the pad turns off and i have to jiggle it to get it back

Well there goes my 5th controller. :grumpy::lol:

Ok, so I was playing Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 for a few days cause' I was bored. Well every now and then when fighting and both fighters lock together, the screen goes dark and you go into a 'frenzy' mode where you have to swing the analogue sticks around and side to side. And also when you perform a massive 'ultimate' move with one of the fighters, you must ferociouly do the same.

After 2-3 days of Budokai 2, the whole freakin' right analogue stick decided to go back into the controller, So now when I play a racing game, it seems to stay in it's own position and either deccelerates my car when I don't want it to, or refuses to accelerate when needed.

Fixing this wouldn't be much of a problem though, considering I've taken apart countless controllers in the past to try to fix them and have been succesful the majority of times, except it's starting to get tiring and I can't be bothered anymore.

The fact that when I play drums in my room, and because it's so loud everything vibrates and my DVD's and controllers keep falling off my T.V onto the ground wouldn't have anything to do with it... well atleast I don't think so. :indiff:

still.. i dont really know if gt uses the right vibration thingy...

i have three clearview (2 logitech, one Sony DS1) and a stock black DS2 Pad.
on my own station i played GT1,3 and 4.

i always noticed the same thing: at best it seemed that the right side would go all rumbley, normally its just the left motor at the correct frequency to make the whole pad feel vibrating.

as i understand it, both motors are for different kind of vibration frequencies.
left one is rotating faster with a lighter weight, right one slower with a heavier weight...

now, IF my pads are ALL broken.. it would be funny, that regardless which manufacturer, the right vibrathing goes pop first all the time....

The dualshock 2 is very problematic, I think its mostly because of the touch sensative controls, I've been through six already, and I'm really tired of buying new ones all the time, thank god I still have my PS1 controllers, now those things were built to last, I still have the ones that came with the first PS1 and they've seen all four GT series, amazing little buggers. They have been dropped, kicked, tramped, juice was dropped on them, my dog even chewed one of the analogs, but you know what they still work, Why cant sony build some good quality controllers, like the ones that came with the PS1.

Well all I can say, is that if sony built the perfect controller they would really loose out on money coz guys like us would never need to buy newer ones ever, just think of all the money you spend on controllers.

I just hope the PS3 comes with better controls than the PS2,

I've got 5 DS2 controllers and none has ever broken.

Ever.

Though one of my original DualShock ones did once. Left D-pad stopped responding.
