I noticed on a GT video clip, included in the home page of this site at the story on 'Corner cutting on Round 2 of the USA GT Academy', that there was a pronounced noise of a dump valve from the car's engine tone.

Does anyone know how this is achieved in game? To get the cool noise of the dump valve (they are called dump valves here in the UK).

Hi, if you listen to the sound on the video clip you will clearly hear it. Have a listen just now, on the home page I think it may be the latest story, definitely a dump valve noise...

You can here it on some cars more than others. You can hear it clearly while driving the 05 Subaru STI, regardless of what camera angle you use.

It's the sound you get when you rev an engine with turbo, right? I hear the sound with some of my cars, I have set the audio settings to "small theatre". Don't know if it matters though.

The noise is heard specifically when you change gear in your car. Have a look at the clip and when he shifts gear it's well noticeable.

Only turbo cars have dump/blow off valves, there used to stop the turbo stalling in-between gear changes, wastegate or wastegate chatter is a different thing and noise altogether, dump valves make a woosh noise, wastegate chatter is a fluttering sort of noise.

Try outside view whils looking back and the sound is very clear. Also when you drive closely to someone you can hear it from about a meter or so away.

yea, isn't that what he is talking about? turbo cars

I've been trying to find a car with a loud blow off valve, but with no luck so far (still have not bought a wrx yet)

the blow off valve and/or waste gate

It's definitely a blowoff valve not w/g, the thing that bugs me is that you have the same crappy turbosmart sound if your driving a GTR, WRX or a group C car like a XJR-9 or even a GT-1, now seriously PD they should not all sound the same.

+1000000000 there are some that sound cool and others that just sound nasty (in a good way..lol). I wish it was the same way in the game

I remember hearing it on my Mitsubishi GT3000 Twin Turbo, I need to try it again to be sure. Also, it has a stage 3 turbo kit.

A lot of my Cars have loud BOV's just need to drop it a gear when the boost is really high.

it doesn't matter if you downshift or let off, the pressure is still releasing.

in real life anyway, with this game who the hell knows what is going on :scared:

I dont know what your talking about, Im saying that a lot of my cars do have a BOV noise when I downshift. If you mean that there is none when you are at say full rpms in 3rd and let off like it should be then you are right.

and I was saying it wouldn't matter in real life if you down shifted or just let of the gas it would still do the same thing, but it this game I don't know because a lot of stuff in this game are screwy.

Thanks for the replies. On the video clip that I keep going on about, turn the volume up high and you'll hear the clear whoosh noise when the guy changes gears up or down. In the UK it is a dump valve on turbo cars, even had them on some of my real life turbo cars.

I just wanted to know how you get that noise in-game - be it only a particular few cars, or whether a certain set-up could develop the noise in-game. I don't really know as yet, so I'm going to look carefully at some of the obvious turbo cars like the Subaru and the Evo and see if these cars give that engine noise in-game. I'm level 31 A spec and only noticed such a noise. Maybe it's only online you can get the dump valve noise going, since the video clip is an online race (I think).

The noise anoys me on some cars, the vale release on every gear change and on a hint off throttle release. But my Veyron it only release now and then...
