I just found a place in NYC where they will mod my ps2 with the DUO 2. According to some info i found it will play dvd 9. Can anyone else confirm this information? Does anyone have the chip? They are charging me 125 with a 90 day warranty. i know the chip retails for 35-40 so they are making a nice profit.

I bought a 2 year warranty from EBgames with my ps2. Come this February I will have a remaining year. I was thinking about breaking my ps2 and getting a fresh new one and not let the warranty go to waste. any suggestions?

Anyone else in NYC want to go together and get our ps2s modded? maybe we can work a deal with them to lower the prices?

The Duo 2 SE is only $23. I'm pretty sure it plays DVD9s. $125 for the installation seems like a ripoff to me. Where in NYC? I think there's a place in Chinatown where they install for cheaper. Also, might want to check if EB will take the console back if the warranty sticker is peeled.

EB wont take it back after the seal has been ripped. what i meant was breaking my ps2 and getting a new one from eb BEFORE the mod chip installation.

I know im getting ripped everything they have is over priced. gt3 25 bucks, DFP 175. Let me know if you find out where i can get it cheaper PLEASE.

i own the duo2se chip. it's a really good chip as far as my needs are concerned. it plays originals and backups, and it says on their site it plays DVD9's. it should, as it just came out about 5 months ago. it works flawlessly for me every time and it wasnt bad to install. you have to be good at soldering to install tho. very good ! just letting you know. its around 20dollars at www.foundmy.com which is a good place to buy it, it's a legitimate site, as it is a recommended by www.duomodchip.com to buy the duo series from. later-

im not even going to THINK of soldering. im getting it installed, but the store i found is charging way too much! 125!!!! Anyone in nyc know were i can get it installed cheaper?

First off, the wholesale price for Duo2 chips is $7. It's a good chip and will take care of all the things a chip should do. The more advanced chips like dms3/4 and infinity matrix, crystal, etc. are for booting off the flash if you want that. Make sure that the person who installs the chip corrects the voltage going to the laser, because with the Duo2 chip, the voltage will change. You can have your laser die on you as fast as 3 months without the fix. Also, EBgames will probably not be able to replace your current ps2 with the old style big ps2s. They will most likely give you the slim ps2TWO, which is so much more inferior. If you have a version 7, don't even mess with it. Just get a mod chip and make sure everything is done right. It will last for a long ass time.

hey ziggysnorkel... whats this talk of laser voltage ? i have had my chip in for about 6 months now. not continual play, but a good amount of time, and i havent had any trouble reading DVDR's or anything like that yet. Are you speaking of adjusting laser current via the two potentiometers on the bottom of the laser unit ? or is there a voltage fix and you need a voltage regulator chip ? i have never heard of the duo2 doing such things. i have a DUO2SE if that makes any difference. I don't know the workings of chips, only PS2's (moderately). care to explain at all ? it would be much appreciated to see how long my PS2 will last and if my chip really will burn out my laser someday. Thanks ! -Ian

The only flaw with the Duo 2 chip's is:

V9 and v10 LA chip syndrome.
It is a well documented fact that the latest v9 and v10 machines suffer from a major problem. The LA chip has a tendency to die. After it dies, the only solution to get your machine working again is to replace the chip with an original LA6508 or a device called LA6508 RII. However, in both cases, it is quite a hard soldering job. (much harder than to install a chip). The following can be done to reduce the chances of the LA 6508 chip dying. Again do not attempt the simple modification unless you know what you are doing.

If laser volatge was a problem Duo mod would be stating that you have to adjust it in their installation guide on their website "thats where I got that info from above"

right i knew about that LA chip burning out, i heard you can just pull up one of the legs, (don't remember which one) and your ps2 will still work alright, and the chip won't be in danger of burning out. still don't know why a lser would burn out from a modchip unless the chip bridged a resistor which limited laser current, which i suppose is possible, as i think lasers are forced to read a disk longer with a chip in order for the chip to run the right region code in time ? something along those lines ? interesting though, keep me posted. i want to know if my laser is going to burn out :-P.
