Hey guys, I just noticed there isn't any thread here for Dust 514, so I thought I'd give an idea for those who haven't heard of the game.

Dust 514 is an upcoming free-to-play console-based MMOFPS set within the Eve universe, developed by CCP Games.

This game will be the first game developed by CCP since Eve Online, and it is currently being developed by CCP's Shanghai studio.

Set within the Eve universe

Eve online is already a huge MMO with a huge fan-base, so people on the PS3 will be joining the fun, but in another way.

The game features users fighting ground battles in wars on planets in the Eve Online universe. According to a preview by Edge, the events that happen in this game will affect the EVE Online universe. Battles in this game can also determine who controls various planets in the EVE universe, and users in DUST 514 can interact with users from the EVE universe such as providing mercenary assistance during planet battles.

Gameplay

Gameplay in Dust 514 will follow a similar setup to titles like MAG while still including its unique features. Players take the role of a freelance mercenary available for hire (confirmed multiplayer-online only). Also available is CVC (or Corporations vs. Corporation matches) which take place at the request of Corporations in Eve. Although the Dust players will be mercenaries, they can also seize territory from planets within the EVE universe for their own alliance and corporation, which will take place in the form of Corporation vs. Corporation matches. This allows Dust corporations to build infrastructure on captured territory, but it is unclear what manufacturing power Dust corps will hold.

And the game is only going to be on the PS3, and for FREE

A beta would be held before the end of 2011 followed by a release in the summer of 2012.

So, what do you think?

This looks very nice. So far, to me, it seems like Section 8 on a more massive scale. Here's a pretty long and interesting clip I came across on youtube.

Did not see that before  If this game works smooth like this, and there were no connectivity issues, I see myself playing no other shooter

I got in it yesterday and I still don't know what a drop suit is but I got them!!

I was playing during the event and I read that I will get the suits during downtime today(dev post on the forums). But I hear that people have been getting prompts as to which character they want the dropsuits for and I didn't. I hope this is because I only have 1 character.

EDIT: Got my gear today it gave me the prompt to select which character got the stuff.

Was playing last night with 2 friends and its getting better. Now we have open beta and everyone can play its a lot better with friends. One thing I didn't like was how complicated it was to get a squad going compared to other PlayStation games. it took me a good 30 minutes to realize that I had to MANUALLY turn on voice chat. Why?

Ive been playing since it went Open Beta too and loving every second. Its going to be a cool experience to see a True Beta progress over several months up to a final release. ( which most rumors point to Summer 2013)

And i just got into one of the big Corps on the leader boards already. Majority of them have been playing since last years E3, so they have a lot of helpful info and contacts in EVE already.

If you need a really good Corp., i recommend "Triton-Industries". Played with alot of the founding members today and they are really cool. Its also a mature Corp., so no one under the age of 18.

Just downloaded this yesterday and wow is it fun! However I have a question you might know the answer to. Sometimes when I apply electronics or biotics or things of the sort, why does the amount of skill points I receive always 50? What happened to the thousands? Ways to avoid it? Thanks.

Once again, awesome game. :)

Was really looking forward to this because it would have a massive player base. Unfortunately most of the feedback I have read about it has been negative with most saying its the worst console FPS they have ever played and that the gunplay is terrible. Sure its still in beta but I'm suprised that they didn't put more effort into the fundimentals of the game. They shouldn't have let mmo dev's make an FPS.

The game has a daily skill point cap of about 27,000. every match after you hit the cap it will only give you 50 per match.

Currently their is a vote going in the dust forums for the next sp system. Right now a weekly cap with a soft cap of 1000 sp is winning by a wide margin.

That's ridiculous. But sounds good at the same time. I just made a lot of choices that weren't the best when it came to using the points.

Thanks for the answer, really thought it had to do with the items I was applying. :p

The first thing people should do with their skill points is get weaponry to level 5. Then work on the other passive skills.

That's what I should've done. I ended up accidentally spending the starting points for things I didn't use. :indiff: Including wasting the level 1 skill for a certain weapon type at the beginning.

Its a lot of trial and error for newer people.

I also hear they are planning on nerfing the laser rifle which upsets me greatly.

I have an annoying bug at the moment where I don't get passive sp on the character its selected for. Apparently to fix it I have to make a new character and select passive sp for that then move it back to my main. I do agree to some degree that the gun play isn't that good. It seems a bit off but still the game is still in beta and they will have plenty of time to try iron out the problems.

I haven't given it a go yet, can someone tell me what the download size is and whether you have to sign up to something extra (other than just logging into PSN)?

I think it is quiet a few gigs at least 4 I think. You don't have to sign up for anything new you just have to make a character and away you go.

its 2.6 GB

I played it a bit and well if there was a way to change your key bindings since I keep switching weapons instead of firing.

I played it once and well I got spawn killed so many times. That is what killed it for me.

I've always heard people complain about others not playing the objective, but I never thought that I'd have to complain about it. Tiring to be doing all the work in a Skirmish all alone. Really need to find some people I can play with.

It asks you to enter your e-mail in for verification, not even a password and just carries on. :odd: Found that odd.

I absolutely hate it when they do that. Especially when it's someone with a Heavy Machine Gun. 👎

I do like the game, especially since I seem to be pretty good at it. :)
I agree with the spawn camping, there needs to be something similar to kz3 where you can't use a tactical spawn if there are too many enemies around.

Anyone fancy making a gtp corp?

The overall game isn't bad but if you get a bunch of people running around with heavy and spawn camping just makes you want to quit.

The way to combat the spawn camping is have like a spawn shield for 3 seconds or when you fire before the 3 seconds are up.

What's everyone's preferred set-up so far? I use a scout dropsuit with a M512-A Submachine Gun and Nova Knives. :D Great fun to be had.

I was thinking about that myself.

Interesting.. I'd be in for this, I had another go last night, and alot of people don't go for the objective, you had 3 sites A B C you had to "Hack" and seemed to me, that myself and another player on the other team were trying to hack the devices etc... I gave up and started to team death match it hahahaha

Gave this a shot yesterday when I finally managed to get on the servers. Looks pretty cool, played EVE online on the PC many moons again and interesting that this game links in with those servers and actions in Dust can effect things in EVE online.
