I'd like to get a current issue DVR (digital video recorder) like a TiVo or ReplayTV. Does anyone have a suggestion or any information on the topic? I was thinking a ReplayTV 5504 (cheapest model, $150USD) and putting a 250GB ($180USD) drive in it would be pretty sweet.

I think that is not a good choice. You cannot add a hard drive to a DVR. You may want to concern a DISH Player-DVR or a DISH 721 by DISH Network.

Thanks,

Uuuhh...yes you can add a hard drive to a DVR. :odd:

Someone works for Dish...

Go with the Replay TV. It is easily networkable so you can copy the files onto your computer if you want to. 👍

Yeah, I was thinking ReplayTV over the TiVo - it has a lot more hardware options, like built in ethernet. I don't know that you can copy recordings from it to a PC without a little hacking first, though, and I wouldn't be up for that until well into its lifespan.

Does anyone have a TiVo or ReplayTV that can share experiences?

No, you can't add a hard drive to a DVR as it may void the warranty, even the DISH Player-DVR receivers or DISH 721 DVR. Sorry.👎

Uhm, right. So not being physically able to, and voiding the warrenty if you do so, are two completely different things.

The "Dish Player" would require satalite. I don't want to pay for that. I get cable cheap.

What LoudMusic said. You can add a hard drive, but it voides your warranty. That doesn't mean you can't add one. Also, people adding a hard drive know full well that it voids their warranty.

Any chane of you getting a HDTV set, or an HDTV ready set in the near future? If so, wait for the new Voom hard drive HD recorders. They're going to be better than anything out there right now.

Great. You can add a hard drive, but it voides your warranty. Do not risk it to open your receiver until your warranty expires. Thanks. :)

People that do things to void their warranty and know that it voids their warranty, don't care if it voids their warranty. Thats why they do it. They aren't scared about voiding their warranty. Please hush. Thanks. :)

You feel the need to tell me what I can and can not do to my hardware? Who are you? Microsoft? Sony? **** off man, it's my damn box. I'll do with it as I please.
