Just got around to doing the Super GT races. Suzuka with dynamic weather was amazing!

Why isn't this on every track?! When they finish this game it's going to be superb.

It didn't actually rain, but the sky went dark a few times, at other times it was almost a blue sky, every lap or so look different. The 10 laps flew by.

I agree with both points: it is amazing, and why wasn't weather added to all tracks?

You won't get to play GT5 this/last year if you want the effect on all track.
Kaz and teams have done awesome job on this.

But yeah, hoping some more dynamic weather change to other tracks too.

Yes, I was driving around on the 'Ring, and noticed the light dimming and shining as the clouds obscured the sun

Well dynamic weather can be amazing, but sometimes also very annoying. I was driving around Nurburgring in practice and it rained for 2 whole days! I thought the sun would never appear.

It's not a simple process. If you go through the AMG school for the the Nurburgring ring and read the descriptions, you can see that they don't just decrease the grip on a wet track, but they also take into account that the driving line is often more slippery. They also take into account where water tends to accumulate on the track. You can see this in light rain on the Nordschleife. In some areas of the track the car will kick up water and others it won't. I suspect that it isn't trivial to add from a graphics perspective either.

I can't believe the 'its not as easy as that' comments, other games have had weather effects in them, and they were not in such a long development time. It does make me wonder what pd were going for such a long time that others done in half the time. But this has been discussed many times, so not a lot we can do now.

The weather is good, but not as good as that in the f1 game, that was outstanding. The night effect is also good in this game.

I was hoping from the fact that it was missing form so many tracks that it was more than just reduce grip by x and make all the textures darker.

I love it, great job PD. Shame they didn't manage to get all of the tracks done. GT6 maybe

Graphically, the only track which looks wet while driving is SSR7. Other than that, you can't see any reflections from standing water, although there's a sort of a :dry line" visible

Wait until you do Le Mans 24h. The night/day and sunny/rain transitions are really well done. I especially like the graphics for sunrise.

I beg to differ that F12010 has truely dynamic weather.

It does though, based on real weather data for each region from the time of year each GP is run. I do thnk F1 2010s is a more detailed system.

Yeah, F1 has a better dynamic weather system... Visually and technically.
I don't tknow if this is a glitch or something, but in GT5, when I go to arcade, choose La Sarthe time/weather change after a few corners the environment lighting suddenly changes from dark/rainy to sunny/rainy...

I just ran an experiment. Two races in each game at Suzuka, to keep it fair I used FGT's in GT5. Both races were for 20 laps.

F12010: Started raining. Stopped raining at lap 12 both times, dried by lap 19.
GT5: Started raining, Stopped raining at lap 5 first time and then started raining again at lap 11, Stopped raining at lap 7 the second time, never fully dried, and began drizzling around 130R on the final lap

I think by the definition of Dynamic, GT5 wins.

At times GT5 is absolutely stunning.

I noticed on the very same Suzuka race it's not just about weather dynamics, it's also about how the race transitions between bright sunlight to a cloudy gloom through to a hazy shine and then back to a clear bright sky...or whatever order the race takes. The lighting, dare I say, is the best I've ever seen.

So many little visual details that make GT5 really stand out. No doubt all of it got passed the reviewing press too.

It took 6 months for the premium cars to render thats where some of the time went.

6 months per car, 200 odd premium cars = 1200 months = 100 years. Explain please.

Edit - Looks like I have to add a patented sarcasm alert system to this post.

I always thought it looked a bit like lightning... But i could never see any in the replays...

You can disagree if you want, but you'd be wrong in doing so. F1 2010 has the best dynamic weather and best dynamic track surfaces that I've seen in console gaming, and beats the bloody crap right out of GT5.

I've redone the same race in F1 2010, and had totally different results each time. You just lucked into a repeat. For example, I did one in F1 2010 where it was pouring rain at the start of P1, let up by the end of P1, was dry in P2, sprinkled a bit in the middle of P3, was dry in Q1, Q2, and Q3, and then rained through most of the race. I redid the race and had it dry the whole race weekend.

EDIT:
Regardless, nobody can play F1 2010 and seriously say that GT5 beats its weather. You can't do it with a straight face. If we fired up GT5 tomorrow to find an update, download the update, and suddenly the weather is like F1 2010, millions of GT5 players would have to change their pants.

6 months of man hours for each car split between the PD team = about 3 days for each premium car.

I know how it breaks down!

My point is the people constantly making excuses for the under developed ideas and trying to preach that they are the best thing known to man, when clearly they are not.

With all due respect I can seriously say that. The dynamic weather in GT5 blew me away in a way that F1 never did.

Just my opinion of course. Just as yours is your own.

Dynamic track surfaces? You have your choice between asphalt and stop.

Maybe. But I had an INSTANTLY different experience in GT5 VS F12010.

The wet handling on "Real" mode in GT5 trumps the hell out of F12010, any day of the week, forever.

Also theres no stupid immobile rain droplets all over the camera made out of carbon fibre or something equally resilient to simple physics.

I wouldn't say that the droplets are over the camera, more like over the racing helmet otherwise, I agree.
