Linky.
It seems there hasn't been enough media exposure of late (which seems odd, as it has been it's highest ever seemingly since G4 has nothing better to do) to warrant the cost. Maybe if it wasn't a press only event like TGS things would be better.

That's very unfortunate.

The companies have to stop thinking about profits all the time, and spend some time and money to "bring attention to the industry."

Yup, read that 2 days ago.

That sucks. I mean, people love games and they love gamers. They should keep it open.

This is quite bad for the gaming industry. Now the game companies are going to have to find their own ways to set up their own event to get the public's attention on trying out the new demos.

The only way I see how this can be made up is by increasing the amount of demos and contents in those gaming magazines. Like how Xbox and Official Playstation Magazine have that demo disc in it. It be really cool to have like +15 game demos with +15 videos on the upcoming games ALL for under 10 dollars. :sly:

Well there are enough alternatives, the Tokyo Game Show and Europe's Game Convention... although I don't see a reason why the E3 should dissapear, it wouldn't be the end of huge game events...

Geeze...if only the could learn to report correct information.

E3 is not "dead". Publishers and other big backers are tired of spending hundreds of thousands on display exhibits when there is no profit to be gained. The cost to run E3 is enormous, and the fact that thousands of people show up, that aren't needed, aka random kids with websites and people who work in stores like EB and GameStop, only means that it will cost less to run.

E3 has only been downsized, not "cancelled". More proof that Next-Gen is retarded and will do anything to push a story so that your clicks to their site fill their pockets with money.

I hate sites like that.

Proof ^^ . Honestly, I'd stop reading Next-Gen all together, sometimes they get screen shots, but everything else is trash on their site when it comes to actual journalism.

E3 will still happen, press conferences will still be made, all the goodies will still be there, the only difference is they don't have to cater to thousands of people who are only there to play games and do nothing more. It's a sensable business choice.

Are you guy's reading the real news? Or still this Next-Gen BS? It's not canceld, dead, or gone. It's just smaller, and restructured to be like it was 12 years ago, a smaller, press only event.

Now that its canceled, maybe they'll replace it with a TGS-like show. That show is better than E3 every was. That show is more about the games, and less about the hype.

Bye-bye E3, it was nice knowing you. :(

E3 was not canceled. It was downsized. There is still an E3.

E3 is still around...

E3 will no longer have 60,000 attendee's, it will have around 5,000.

E3 is not canceled.

Why would they need to downsize it?
E3 was extremely expensive to run. Developers, publishers, and hardware manufacturers were spending hundreds of millions of dollars just to buy and set up floor space. These are costs that are *never* regained, and yearly they build. A resized E3 at a smaller location would allow everyone to spend less, while still offering the same large scale media attention (through big name sites like IGN, GameSpot, GameDaily, etc).

Fact is, it cost too much to run, with only media attention to gain, and it's not always positive. Sony, MS, EA, and THQ all pushed to have it "downsized" or they would back out next year, and without them, the ESA has no show. Hence, E3 was DOWNSIZED, REDESIGNED...but never was it cancelled.

Next-Gen.biz is just full of idiots for the most part.

Sounds like Sony, MS, EA, and THQ were a bit lonely at this year's E3...apparently, Nintendo found no reason to complain. ;)

Actually, Nintendo did complain, for the last 4 years. They've been complaining about Prices for quite a long time, it just never got the media attention because they never threatened to pull support for E3. But this year marked record high prices for booths and floor display's, and I guess some people just were ready to give up.

So, since that happened, E3 shrank to accomodate, and it's better for gaming as a whole.

Thats too bad now E3 is cancelled, RIP E3 :(

j/k

only messin with ya Jeremy :D

As long as E3 continues to bring news and conferences, I could care less about booths and fancy expensive displays.

hahahhaha, funniest thing I've read all day :)

I guess from the sound of it, E3 will now be held in a large sized ball room of a hotel, and the "booths" will be around two playable consoles for games, and games will have showtimes of a day or so. This would mean in 5 days, there could be a LOT more games present at E3, and there will be a LOT more playtime (which means more news, more info, more everything).

Personally, I think this is better for almost everyone, since the majority of us just read about E3, it's definately better. There won't be 55,000 people who are only there because they work at EB or have a home grown website.

Hmmm, Seems like G4 just lost meaning for me, now that they have X Play on before I get home from work, and now no E3 coverage. Eh, Oh well. I would have never gone anyway.
