Been trying to find out in another post if there is anyone from GTplanet at E3 this year. As it looks like there will be some big news, and the usual journalist not always cover the angles we prefer, would it be possible to send someone from Gtp?

Maybe make it available to raise some funds for the trip for a moderator etc. so expenses are covered. Shouldn't be hard to get enough with the amount of members here. This way we are fairly sure to get the news thats worth getting. At least im up for putting some $ in that direction :dopey:

Any suggestions welcome.

EDIT:

To do list

Need to fin out who wants to go, and can go, from the senior staff.
Also take into consideration wich person will be cheapest to send maybe?

Setup a Paypal-donation asap - minimum contribution 1$ (everyone should be able to afford that, if willing)

Find out if its possible to make some sort of competition with the ones who paid, and get a prize of some sort if there is a few $ to spare (yiai optimism!) If we dont get a few $ in +, I'll be happy to sponsor a small thing myself :P

Question list for possible interviews (though ofc, final decision is solely in hands of the representative from GTP)

Try to get a videocam for the one going, for videodiary, interviews, and uploads. (If the person doesn't already have, maybe someone who lives nearby can lend)

Getting all this written down in an orderly fashion so people can see exactly what they pay for.

And most importantly, make sure anyone from senior staff wants to go ;)

Round trip is £1,200 ($1,850) for me. But yeah, I'll go if you raise funds :D

Can anyone just turn up on the door and go in? Or is it invite only.

+1 Sounds like a good idea! I'll chip in with some $

Media only and I am sure GTPlanet would qualify, not sure how early you have to apply for a media pass.

I'm sure we would have some trustworthy Southern Cali members that would be willing to go on GTP's behalf. Would be great to even get a official GTP Kazunori interview. :)

I believe the first few days are media only, and the last few are days for everyone. The press conferences I believe are invite only.

Edit: I was wrong it is media only.

Im sure GTplanet could go as media when other gamin sites can go for such.

And if there is someone in California, then its a cheaper trip, and should be realistic to gather the funds for it. Maybe make a paypal donation for the purpose on the site.

We have at least a supermod and a mod in California. But they don't have the kind of spare time that I do :D

Well going through a quick run through of the E3 site, it seems that anyone that can prove they are a member of the media can go for free, otherwise pretty much anyone can go as long as they pony up $400.

Risk versus reward.

I find it sort of difficult, as I think about this in my head, to raise $400.

You have to ask yourself: Will we get something valuable out of this? (An interview seems unlikely).

And we always get footage from the media.

I received E3 press credentials last year, but canceled my trip when I began to suspect that there might not be much in the way of GT news (it turned out to be a very wise decision - that would have been a very expensive trip just to see a trailer!). I am still deciding on whether or not to go this year. The tremendous expense and logistics of keeping the website updated (and keeping the server alive) while on the show floor is very intimidating. :scared:

Ya, I definitely wouldn't put up that kind of money, pretty much all you get with that $400 is the chance to walk around the floor and play the games, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to get into the conferences or get any interviews.

Edit: Jordan is it not possible to have one of the other administrators or supermods look after that stuff? Or is that restricted to you alone?

Well to me an interview with GTPlanet holds way more credibility than any other media outlet due to not the same damn questions getting asked over and over. You know we'd have some interesting things to ask instead of clueless gaming journalists :P

Do you guys have such an imagination that you can play GT5 in your mind with information??

So if you find out there is going to be dynamic weather, is that actually useful information for you?? loool

An interview seems unlikely

I wouldn't say so. GTPlanet is probably more likely to be taken seriously (excluding any kind of media-industry-based snobbery) and we know the questions Kaz doesn't like being asked, or are always always asked...

It doesn't have to be with the KingPin anyway, could be some other member of the senior project staff. I'm sure we could muster up some very interesting questions, much more so than your average gaming site.

EDIT: alba put it more eloquently and concisely...

Is it only $400? That's pretty good.

You have to also ask yourself that what is better, desk or field research? Field will always be better.

I say go, Jordan. It would be cool for some live updates straight from the show floor! Will Kazzy be there? If so, wouldn't it be amazing if you scored an interview with him!?

While an interview might be much to hope for, less would still be valuable (for me at least). Most other gaming sites cover everything in general, and hence the GT info is not always with the angle i would prefer. A mod from this place would be able to focus purely on GT, and with some nifty ipad thingy or similar, would be able to update us with the exact info we want, without all the other, in this case useless, stuff.

400$ entrance is just 400 members donating 1$ (1 quater L of cola) or 100 donating 4$ (thats about 1 pack of cigs where i come from)

Ill happily give 5-10$ for a dedicated GTplanet reporter at the crime-scene.

EDIT: Jordan, if you can get press credentials again this year, how much will the trip be then? And would it be possible to get help with servers meanwhile etc? the chance of news this year seems to have quite better odds than last time. I have no idea how airtickets are priced in the US, but if its nearly same prices as northern EU then it should be possible to collect the cash for it from people here :)

I'm not concerned about getting an interview with Yamauchi-san, as I don't anticipate that would be a problem. The trip would cost me considerably more than $400. With food, lodging, and airfare, it would cost at least $1400.

If Jordan received press credentials I believe he would get in for free. So raising money wouldn't be an issue for him.

Even if a interview wasn't possible with Kazunori Yamauchi (I doubt it would be hard, SCEA know GTP and how many fans read) you would atleast be able to probably chat with Chris Hinojosa-Miranda from SCEA on the show floor around all the assumed new demos.

I would be willing to throw a few dollars donation to the cause, I am sure many others would too, to help out.

He doesn't live in LA, the costs add up.

That is a lot of money! What would be better is if GTPlanet received an invite. Because frankly, shuffling over $1,400 is asking a lot, especially when we COULD be going for free.

Then again, E3 isn't just about GT5. So....an invite is less likely.

You could always just model it...

Anyway, $400 is pretty darned steep, eh?

For access to the biggest gaming exhibition in the world for businesses which will get so much information from it? Not really. It's not like going to the footie ;) Of course this might be different for Jordan with GTP, though with the amount of Unique Visitors the site is getting, it shouldn't be...

You can pay more for Gaming conferences, I remember one on Racing physics engines a year or so back that was $600 per day. (Well, nearer $700 at that time, but what with the pound collapsing.)

I'll donate, just set up a Paypal account for the trip and we can get this ball rolling!

Will there be anything he would want to share hat wont be announced at E3 anyway? Very little, I think a better idea would let all the info come in and then try and get an interview. I doubt this is possible otherwise it would have been done already lol. But it does seem like a risk to turn up and try and get some more info.

+1, and as im a positive person, any surplus could be given as prize in some sort of GT competition on the site, that way risk/reward thinkers have more chance of reward ;)

But, those businesses can get free access... It seems the price is that high to keep the riff-raff out - which is fair enough.
And that physics conference sounds more geared towards the developers - I'd charge for sharing my expertise, too ;)

If the plan is deemed sensible by all involved, I'll happily donate if it comes to that.
