Sincerely hope that EA somehow gets their act together now, but I very seriously doubt it will happen.

I get the feeling you're right. I think this is more due to EA's failure to dominate the mobile and social markets, neither of which really affect console and PC gaming directly. It probably wasn't the always-on DRM, the "microtransactions in all games" thing nor the banning of players from Origin left, right and centre over really minor things (like using bad language on Battlelog, the social platform for their 18-rated (I'm assuming, anyway) game which uses bad language all the time), so those practices may well continue. Maybe Crysis 3 didn't perform as well as they'd hoped (I heard Dead Space 3 sold better, and I'm guessing that with those graphics Crysis 3 cost more to make), MOH: Warfighter and Star Wars: The Old Republic being huge flops probably didn't help either.

Anyway, I'm hoping we'll see a shift towards what EA was like before they started turning into absolute bastards again, but the reality is it could easily go the other way as well...

EA in a nutshell

All those reasons you stated +100,000,000. The collective hatred towards that company and what they're turning gaming into is immense, yet like you said that may not even be why they're hurting right now.

Maybe the Sim City flop was too much bad publicity for this guy, or maybe there's a slight chance that stakeholders are finally starting to notice how much everyone hates them and Mr. CEO is leaving before the ship sinks. They're probably holding meetings all this week about how much money they can get out of us, too.
