If only the G27 provided support for the 360, that would have given Fanatec some competition 👎

its nothing to do with logitech in regards to g27 having no xbox support, its all down to good ol microsoft...they are to blame

No they aren't.

If Logitech wanted to license a controller for 360, then they could do so.

i think it's a little bit of both, Logitech and Microsoft don't want to work together. Logitech is not willing to pay Microsoft's exorbitant licensing fee and Microsoft is not willing to lower the price just because it's Logitech.

You can see what the licensing fee does to the price of the Fanatec wheel. GT3RS + Clubsport is $299 and Turbo S + clubsport + shifter set is $479. If you substract $50 for the shifter set that comes out to $129 more for what is essentially the same wheel. I would think at least 50% of that goes to Microsoft

Sony may have a clause, only allowing logitech to manufacture gaming controls that aren't microsoft compatable. Just a guess.

I think it has more to do with Microsoft being stingy on who they allow to make 3rd party peripherals for the 360. Not to mention it doesn't even look like the G27 will be fully PS3 compatible just like the G25.

CharlesB from the Logitech Product team:

As a final statement of this topic: We'd really like to provide a true Force Feedback device for the Xbox 360, and we've been wanting to for a while. Think about it rationally: It only makes sense we'd want to sell our products to the largest audience possible. That being said, there are external factors that have been preventing us from doing so. I can't specifically get into the details beyond that, but let it be known that we aren't intentionally ignoring the Xbox 360 market at all.

I'm a bit unclear from the review - how changed is the feel of the shifter? This really was the weakest link in the G25 system. I would prepared to sacrifice the sequential shifter in exchange for getting a stronger feeling H-shifter, but is the new shifter really that much better?

No one knows yet (need better reviews), but comment in the blog:

Hi Timppaq, Infernoo and JasonJ,
The components that made the switch possible also contributed to the way that the G25’s shifter felt. In order to improve the feeling of the shifter, we had to remove the sequential mode hardware.
Best, Chris

so I guess there is hope 👍 They wouldn't do that for nothing.

edit,

The G25’s shifter isn’t compatible with the G27’s firmware. Yes, I already asked.

:dunce: :ouch:

Tighter tolerances in the G27’s helical force feedback gears seem to have forced Logitech to program in a slightly larger "soft spot" in turning resistance near top center. G25 owners know that when their wheel is a few degrees either side of centered, the force feedback and turning forces drop off slightly. This is to prevent the force feedback engine from producing divergent oscillations. While real cars also have a slight drop in turning resistance near center due to tire geometry, the G27’s soft spot is wider and has a noticeably steeper ramp-up in forces at its edges. When driving in Race ’07 I could feel a tiny bit of FFB-induced oscillation (wobble) while driving on long straights, and in GT5 Prologue straight line steering was just a bit vague with the wheel centered (although that might be an issue with the PS3).

:grumpy: Hopefully it isn't as bad as it sounds

At $300, if you not too bothered buying online rather than a retail shop, The GT3RS/CSP wins hands down- assuming it will work with GT5. The only down side is the wait to get one.

Havent seen the review as it's taking forever and a day to load, but the G27 doesn't look or sound all that impressive from the comments i've read in here. I do agree about the visual design, those buttons/lights really UGLY-up the nice looking G25. I was hoping for a Bigger diameter wheel. Good to hear they added some resistance to the shifter (i modified my G25 one for better feel). I am on my 2nd G25 and the motors inside are a bit loose, there is a bit of clicking in my wheel when fighting the feedback, and if i turn it full lock, i can cause the motors to move/click inside the wheel housing so i was looking for a better upgraded wheel. The precision of the steering is spot on, but under certain circumstances you can sometimes feel the motor moving around. My 2nd g25 in 1-1/2yrs. The first time Logitech sent me this replacement no problem, but when i called about this one, they said it was a "TOY" and after a while of playing with the force feed-back my symptons were normal . I told them 300.00 for a wheel i expect better quality, but it's ok, my 2nd one i have now is actually in worse shape than the fist one i still have (they only ask for the shifter to be sent in when replacing). So i still have that to fall back on.

The G27 doesn't look like it's worth moving over to if you have a good working G25. I was interested in the Fanatec wheel for forza 3, but i'll have to see if it's in the funds. Damn this expensive hardware, but it really is the best way to enjoy these driving/racing simulators. Although Live for speed is still my Favorite for Realism. :)👍

[edit]-Jessica Lopez is some nice eye candy.

Thanks for the review!

How do you feel about the lack of a sequential shifter? As a fan of GT racing, and someone who has held off buying a G25 for over a year now for it's replacement, this is the only thing that concerns me.
Agreed. What the hell no sequential shifter?! That's probably a dealbreaker for me since I'll be racing Race 07 and Race On primarily. WTCC with six-shifting, I think not.

Good review. I may make the jump from my DFGT to the G27.

BTW, aside from the color scheme does anyone think those SimBoots shown in the review are any good? I'm new to GT and sim racing and I have no idea if those things are something I might want to invest in. I'm not a big fan of racing in either socks or sneakers so on the surface they seem like a good idea. I just don't know if I'm being a noob thinking that something like the SimBoot is a good idea.

Can i buy Jessica Lopez?

She is just fantastic in HD

She should have her own show on Speed Channel, G4 or whatever :D

To make you want to watch the g27 reveiw even if you aren't intereased in the wheel. I watched it several times because I wanted to see both the g27 and Jessica Lopez over and over again .

Is there a date in the UK for the G27 wheel yet? I haven't seen one for the UK. On the Logitech website £330 :dunce:. Theres a date for america on amazon (can't remember that, sorry). Its $299. But after watching this review I am pretty impressed with the G27 but I get the same feeing with the G25 too. They said if you were planning on getting a g25 get the g27 but what would be the point. Also can someone explain to me what is the difference between helical & spur gears I don't quite understand that part. If the force feedback is better on the g27 rather than the g25 then sure I'll consider buying it but surely the g25 will be at a dropped price. Also I think the G25 has a brilliant FFB system but anything to do with a better FFB would make me buy a wheel.

Also I've got a noobish question. When a car hits you does the force feedback kick in on any wheel?? sorry never owned a FFB wheel before :nervous:

EDIT: the price on amazon.com is $309

^ Release date I believe is Oct. 1st. Not sure if its the same for the UK market.

and Force feed back is awesome. Feels very natural. When you're turning the wheel gives 'force feedback' in the opposite direction. You also feel some road vibrations like rumble strips.

When it comes to look I am really disappointed, it looks almost exactly the same as the regular G25 only the buttons are changed to 6 on the wheel and some bolts are different, and the buttons look very gimmick. And can´t you change from H mode to sequal mode? I mena wheres the switch on the gear? I already have a G25 since 2007 so I don´t really feel to buy this one. 👎

What! I thought everyone would know the difference between helical & spur gears!

... I don't have any idea. :dunce:

Yes. FFB effects can be amazingly descriptive, depending on the game.

Eg: in F1CE the wheel rattles around & "bucks", simulating stiff F1 suspension at high speeds on bumpy tarmac. 👍

Eg: in FC you can feel the tires alternately grip & slip as you're cornering at the limit of traction. You can also feel the back end lighten-up as the weight shifts onto the front tires. 👍👍

Basicly Helical gears have an angle to the gear teeth, while if i remember rightly this gives some power transfer benefits and a few other fancy engineering type things.

The most important feature I can see in this sort of application is that its a hell of a lot quieter than spur gears, along with less friction.
