According to a site called gamebomb.com, EA's ownership of the NASCAR Rights will expire at the end of 2009. This'll possibly mean it'll be a new Game company could take over the license (and Manufacterers will be back in the game:)). One would love for it to be one of these right here:

Konami
NAMCO
Polyphony
Empire Interactive

How about you guys?

Doubt it. EA's rights to the NFL were set to expire at the end of 2009 and EA just added 3 more years to it.

I also question some of your choices when you cite a developer who only ever made one non-racing game (9 years ago) and another who has only made a single good game in the past 10 years.

I honestly just went with the two that did good with other games(Namco and Konami) along with two which I've purchased games from and thought were good(Empire Interactive and Polyphony Digital). I didn't mention Sierra or Papyrus because the PC gamers mention too damn much and I don't want Nascar's future games to go exclusively to PC.

Oh, come on. iRacing.com should be the perfect candidate to buy the license, with their amazing NASCAR Racing 2003 Season game..... 👍

Even though I watch NASCAR and actually enjoy unlike alot of people here I hope they wouldn't. First, I don't think they would even consider it but i'd definitely rather them focus their attention on stuff like their GT franchise. Or, perhaps, their own original creations.

It would appear its official now according to NASCAR.com:

NASCAR.com
"EA Sports' whimsical new NASCAR game represents a strategy shift that could lead to an overhaul of the sport's gaming category. Declining sales from the NASCAR '09 game, a desire to reach a broader audience and the need to create a game that fits the Wii console were all integral to the formation of NASCAR Kart Racing, which hit store shelves the week of the Daytona 500. EA's NASCAR '09 game can still be purchased, but the formation of new games in that line is on hold.

"The old game was more for the simulation players, the serious gamers," said Randy Chase, EA's product marketing manager. "This is more lighthearted, something that's more fun for the entire family. We look at it as a respectful caricature of the sport."

Kart also comes out in the final year of EA's licensing deal with NASCAR. Blake Davidson, managing director of NASCAR's licensed products, said the sanctioning body is talking to EA about a renewal, but also is considering a nonexclusive approach that might open the category to other game makers.

"We're in the process of figuring out what's the best model for us and how do we position ourselves in this space," Davidson said. "Do we continue with an exclusive model or go nonexclusive? Do we need annual releases? This is a very important category for us."

Gaming ranks among the top five revenue-producing licenses for the NASCAR industry (the sanctioning body and teams), Davidson said. For EA to create a licensed game with authentic drivers and cars, it must secure licenses from NASCAR and each of the teams represented. But the NASCAR franchise typically didn't refresh a great deal from year to year, other than sponsor changes on driver firesuits and cars. The tracks, the personalities, mostly stayed the same, which has led NASCAR and EA to rethink the idea of annual releases. The sanctioning body also is considering multiple game makers to broaden the variety of games offered, so both serious and casual gamers can be addressed. EA has had exclusive rights since 1997."

If this means manufacterers coming back and a new title not exclusive to PC(no offense to you guys), I'm for someone else picking up the license.

Neither of those candidates seem to be a great idea for a new NASCAR game, although Polyphony would probably have a better game than the rest if they used a similar engine to GT5, or if it isn't out, maybe GT5P.

I'm happy EA lost the license, but there aren't really ant developers I can think of that would have the capability to make a high quality racing game every year(unless they worked it so they could release updates changing drivers, sponsors and manufacturers). Codemasters would be a possibilty but there hands are kind of full right now with the new F1 game as well as DiRT2 and presumably GRiD 2. PD I think even if they wanted the license couldn't get it because NASCAR would want the game to be on at least the PS3 and 360. Hopefully whoever gets the license makes a quality game worth buying every year.

Papyrus is been and gone anyway, you can find their work in iracing now, no way they would go exclusively back to Nascar because they're on a good thing.

In my opinion, Infogrames made the best console NASCAR game to date with 'Dirt to Daytona' back in '02. Now I don't know if Infogrames is still around but, I would love if they made a fresh title. But we all know EA is power hungry so I'd bet before you know it, they'll buy exclusive rights again. I'll cross my fingers hope they don't because I'd hate to see EA taint the NASCAR franchise even more.

Infrogrames is Atari.
Actually it's the other way around as Infogrames owns Atari.

Also Infogrames didn't make D2D a company called Monster Games(based here in Minnesota) made it, it was just published by Infogrames. They are still around and are making games for the Wii.

I didn't actually find anything wrong with Nascar 09, other than stupid region locking. Graphics and livery creator were decent, and the physics were actually pretty good.

I cant see Polyphony ever doing it
Namco possibly, seeing as they did Moto Gp game last year
Codemasters maybe? they used to make very good racing games (colin Mcrae rally)

I can only see it being made by a North American company, It just not popular enough outside of the US. It been said before on this forum "only dumb rednecks like watch cars only turn left." I would say that makes me a redneck but I'm not. Just because I have a rusted Camaro outside, and guns all through my house, doesn't mean I'm a reckneck, just a oddity collector:sly:

iRacing.com seems to have gotten the rights to nascar. though i dont think there exclusive rights seeing as iRaing dosnt take exclusive rights for any of the series they have. but hey you can now compete in an offiacially sanctioned nascar race in 2010.

May 16, 2009 - iRacing.com is proud to announce it's joining forces with NASCAR to create the sanctioning body's first officially licensed and sanctioned online competition division. The fact that iRacing is now a partner in NASCAR-Sanctioned Online Racing is not only a landmark development for the company, it's a tribute to the talent, competitive spirit and sportsmanship of the more than 12,000 members who have joined the iRacing family since 2008.

"Our members are passionate about racing," said John Henry, iRacing's co-founder and chairman. "They love to drive, and they love to compete. And they do it in the context of their overall love for racing in both the physical and virtual worlds. We're pleased that iRacing has been chosen as the home of NASCAR-Sanctioned Online Racing and expect that many of NASCAR's most avid fans will find iRacing's NASCAR-sanctioned series a great way to deepen their connection to and enjoyment of the sport."

The new partnership represents a bit of déjà vu for iRacing co-founder, CEO and CTO Dave Kaemmer whose previous company, Papyrus Design Group, developed several popular NASCAR simulation titles including the ever-popular NASCAR Racing: 2003 Season.

"This is sort of a homecoming for me and several members of the development team," Kaemmer said. "Our NASCAR roots date back to the 1990s. We're thrilled NASCAR shares our vision of internet racing as a new branch of motorsport. With the power of NASCAR behind us, iRacing and our growing global community are about to take another big step forward."

The new partnership was announced this afternoon at Lowe's Motor Speedway during a press conference hosted jointly by NASCAR and iRacing.com, and attended by representatives from many leading media outlets in the motor sports arena. They heard NASCAR officials confirm what iRacing members already know, regardless of the cars or series in which they compete.

"The iRacing product is so realistic that a number of our NASCAR drivers, including Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Brad Keselowski, A.J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose and Colin Braun are already iRacing members," said Blake Davidson, NASCAR managing director of licensed products. "From the beginning these drivers have raved about the incredible accuracy of the cars and the tracks that iRacing has produced and their involvement, along with NASCAR Competition, in the development will make the experience even more authentic."

The fact that NASCAR iRacing will be "authentic NASCAR competition" was underlined by the fact that Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, was much in evidence at the announcement.

"Over the years, many of our drivers have helped develop their skills by participating in virtual training like iRacing," he said. "It's exciting to now have an online NASCAR-sanctioned series like iRacing that will be entertaining for our fans and help provide them with a greater understanding of what it takes to be a NASCAR race car driver."

Further details on the 2010 NASCAR-sanctioned series will be made available later this year.

Great news for iRacing fans. Part of me hopes this is exclusive rights so they can "stick it" to EA, but the other part doesn't because I still won't be able to play a quality NASCAR game, seeing how I'm not a iRacing member, nor do I have a PC.

I realize it's old news now, but seeing as it has yet to be mentioned in this thread...

For future reference, it now appears at least NASCAR licensed cars will be in GT5 based on the trailer Sony revealed at E3 last week.
