Snatched one up in UCD the other day because of the color it came in (looked very much like Audi's Daytonagrau Perleffekt, a color many of you may have seen me raving about elsewhere on GTP) and today I decided to throw a mild tune on it. Now, for me anyway, a mild tune typically consists of minor weight reduction (windows and maybe Stage 1), ECU, low- or mid-range turbo (if applicable), "sports" upgrades (those with the word in their name), height-adjustable suspension, and an LSD. With minor work, the car was a blast and I went ahead and threw it on the 'Ring to really test what I'd created. Lo and behold, I got to the straight and made my 4/5 shift, only to discover that I had to shift into 6th almost immediately. Checked the gear ratios in the stock transmission and discovered this:

1st - 3.214
2nd - 2.238
3rd - 1.535
4th - 1.171
5th - 1.085
6th - 0.790

Does anything about 4th and 5th strike anyone as odd? That's a pretty absurd split in my eyes. Could this be a mistake on PD's part? Or perhaps on Mitsubishi's part? Needless to say I ended up buying the fully-customizable box and fixed the problem with that, but still my mind was and still is sufficiently boggled.

Yes those are the correct gear ratios for the 06 Eclipse GT.
According to MotorTrend this short 4th gear is a great passing gear for the freeway. To me I would have shifted a little bit earlier from 3rd to 4th that way it would lengthen it out a little bit.

Yeah, that could be done, but really it just came as a surprise when I first discovered it. Frankly I prefer more evenly spaced splits though. I'll probably end up seeing how far I can take the car and make better use of the custom 'box. Sure was something, though. Passing gear huh?

It would surprise me too, basically the opposite of the auto 07 Mustang GT's ghastly 4th gear.
