Embracing Dorkdom, Nerdom, and Geekdom: Why it's Cool to be Different

One of the only reasons I watch Adult Swim is for the anime. Bleach, Full Metal alchemist, Inuyasha, Samurai Champloo, Eureka 7, etc...

I think the plan between the two of us thus far is that if A does B, then B has to do A. I did Crossroads as payment back for her watching The Producers (still my favorite musical), among other things. Shes a bit confused why I'm reading Harry Potter right now, but she doesn't like to read, so it isn't a big deal... Funny thing is, she gets to college this fall, and all she will be doing is reading.

Joke is on her!

Bringing it back to the origional basis of this thread, I was really bored while clicking around on the internets, and I came across the Nerd/Geek/Dork Test.

According to the test, I am "65 % Nerd, 78% Geek, 43% Dork," apparently making me what they call a "Cool Nerd." I'm not complaining.

Teh Test
A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

Hooray?

I guess I'm like the "Apple Guy." Only I don't care much for Apples. Mostly because I'm not into jumping into that whole fad. I have an iPod, but that was out of necessity...

Woo! I love myself.

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

Congratulations!

EDIT: The Producers, (Both new and old, more for the old) was a great movie.

Aww... damn it. :grumpy:

Nerds

17 % Nerd, 8% Geek, 8% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored less than half in all three, earning you the title of: Joe Normal.

This is not to say that you don't have some Nerd, Geek or Dork inside of you--we all do, and you can see the percentages you have right above. This is just to say that none of those qualities stand out so much as to define you. Sure, you enjoy an episode of Star Trek now and again, and yeah, you kinda enjoyed a few classes back in the day. And, once in a while, you stumble while walking down the street even though there was nothing there to cause you to trip. But, for the most part, you look and act fairly typically, and aren't much of an outcast.

Geekdom is not a word. The correct term is Geekery.

edit: and lol:

Your Score: Modern, Cool Nerd
91 % Nerd, 56% Geek, 21% Dork

You scored higher than 99% on nerdiness
You scored higher than 99% on geekosity
You scored higher than 99% on dork points

someone mentioned the word anime to me in real life and i punched them in teh face and i was like HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAH WHAT KIND OF PERSON LIKES ANIME OWNED BICTH LMAO

True story!

I was gonna make a seriouspost here but i just canbt make myself do it sorry

I attempted to watch Bleach, because I was already up for Robot CHicken and ATHF.... I almost threw up.

I guess I'm like the "Apple Guy."
Yes? You called?

I got 73% Nerd, 13% Geek, 26% Dork, which apparently equates to Pure Nerd, despite the fact that “better than half” != Pure.

I dont even know what bleach is, I swear anime has some wack ass names. I used to like anime allot untill I like met this guy who liked it more than me and he creeped me the hell out. So then I was like welp no more liking anime for me, well iono I dont mind that new ghost in the shell series thing but pretty much everything else comes off as cliched rehashed crap to me.

Also they should rename robot chicken to retarded 80's reference program because thats all it is realy. It's like HEY YOU REMEMBER THIS SHOW IN THE 80S WASNT IT WACKY? Mind you family guy does this as well.

Aqua teen is pretty good but everything else ive seen on that channel is garbahge.

I have not yet seen laundry in the show called bleach. What gives?

Also, I like how being more nerdy and more geeky than Sage makes me a cool nerd while he's just a pure lame-o nerd, lulz.

...Must be the conservative leanings...

Its too bad there aren't very many hot chicks that can appreciate a nerd/geek/dork. While being a "cool nerd" is nice and all, you spend more time being made fun of for debating the "betterness" of PC or Mac, or whether Star Wars or Star Trek was better... Which is unfortunate. Since they know neither.

Although, I must admit that I have a growing weakness for "rocker girls," who generally tend to be a bit more nerdy/geeky/dorky than the average "girl next door" who most dudes like.

Hot-tastic!

Brett, you're R.C. personified. Seriously.

So i'm a bunch of parodys of 70's 80's and 90's shows reenacted with plastecine and old toys? And i'm also not funny?

Thanks.

You know whats real funny I find, pretty much everyone here when I tell them I work in IT they are like WHAT NO DONT LIE because I dont go around talking about buulding intel MILLION CORE pcs with SLI 400 GRAPHICS CARDS RUNNING IN TANDEM AND WATER COOLING AND OVERCLOCK THAT blablabla etc you know what I mean

mebe i'm just good at hiding it I guess and the fact that working with computers pretty much killed it off as a hobby I guess

edit nerdy girls are terrible for the same reason nerdy boys are

There are plenty of hot nerdy girls out there. The trouble is finding them; the greater trouble is meeting them irl; the greatest trouble is making sure it's consensual.

edit: by the way, Yss, you misspelled "it's" in "Why its Cool..."

I thought it was "its" because it wasn't applying to a person? But if you say so...

it's = Why it is cool to be different.

Its is a possessive.

edit: God, you are like 100% dork. Dorko.

Thats it i'm coming to america and to that state you live in whichever one it is. First i'm gonna steal ur lunch money and then i'm gonna give u some indian burns.

Also i'm gonna set fire to your juve shirts and your kendo stuff if I have time.

Then you will be like........................THIS SI WHAT ITS LIKE........................TO BE PWNEDb

I find the term "geek" to be politically incorrect. Personally, I prefer "Whedonite" or "Fan of Joss Whedon" in my case.

I've never experienced what it's like to be pwned. Brett, together we can start a new age in history. A pwn-age.

52 % Nerd, 34% Geek, 34% Dork

It said i was a pure nerd

Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.
Sweet :sly:

Cool, Modern Nerd

65% Nerd, 56% Geek, 30% Dork

99% percentile in all three categories.

I guess that means I'm more of a know-it-all type than a social recluse.

Yay :P

And Brad, there are other things besides iPods for mp3 players. And yes, Apple is evil :D
