Endurance boredom tips?

I'm not going to risk 4 hours of driving with a slow car only to lose. I run the best possible and blow them away.

On the Roadster enduro I pulled over with 30+ minutes left and browsed these here forums!

Without the possibility of defeat there is no point in victory.

Does anyone else think it's a bit crazy that we are talking about other things to do and entertain us whilst we play GT5. We've waited 5 years for this game and here we are weeks after it's release talking about fighting the boredom of GT5.

A very sad day :(

Not all of us, despite our desires to be racers, have the patience to run 4 straight hours of, effectively, time trialing. GT5 satisfies the itch, but can't do everything right. The lack of a second driver for the 24 hour Enduros is a key point.

As for me, what I ended up doing was putting a Supercharger and Sports: Mediums on the Roadster prize car I got earlier in A-Spec and went to town. Easily faster than the other cars and the tires lasted me a good hour before I'd have to pit and change them. At that point, it came down to when I started getting a little bored, I'd hit pause and go do something else. Browse the forums or watch youtube or something.

I've heard people marvel at the "half'n'half" work method and how it improves efficiency, despite its apparent inefficiency. Basically, it's a half hour of work, followed by a half hour of whatever you want. If you're getting bored with the enduros, then every once in a while, pause and do something else off the Playstation. Then go back and do it some more.

Yeah same. I was about 24 laps ahead and pulled over for 25 mins. Still had a 7 lap lead when the race finally finished.

As for games while driving, i did stuff like:

Try and get a cone all the way around the circuit by bumping it

Ramming off the 2nd place AI lol

Fastest lap :dunce:

The first thing you need to do is lose the cockpit setup. Grabe your DS3 and play it like it's meant to be played, laying sideways on the sofa! At least you'll have the option of changing positions...

+1, I play most races with the wheel, but for endurance, especially the Mazda for four hours the DS3 and I were on the lazy boy.

The Tsukuba races are pretty boring for me. When I ran the 4 hour race I used a car with less power than the top cars and started the race with hard sport tires to make it interesting. After about 5 laps I could see that my laps were not fast enough with this setup so I went into the pits and switch to soft sport tires and ran a few more laps. I checked the split time after a few laps and could see that I was now gaining on the leader so I kept driving. I finally caught the lead car at the end of lap 49 so the first hour or so was interesting. After that I just ran away with it and it became same ole same ole.

I also had my Xbox running and was in a party chat with a couple of my friends while driving here which made it better. I did not get bored enough to drive off the road until about 3 1/2 hours in. I dread the 9 hour race on that track. To bad they did not do the long race on a different track. I think it used to be on Motegi but not sure.

The Endurance Races are actually very easy if you do it in steps. I’ve done this on all GT’s. I always select a day/days I know I will have plenty of time, about 2-3 times more time than the race requires.

1) I mathematically divide the race up in 2 to 4 segments.
Example: If the race takes 4 hours, I divide it up in 1 or 2 hour segments.

2) Race the first segment “or more” and then take a 30 minute break or so. A 30 minute break will do you more wonders than you can imagine, and when you return you will be ready to race more. Also, if you are a hardcore gamer like me… clean the house a little. All of us hardcore gamers know we need to clean our houses more. Lol!

3) Rinse and repeat.

4) Reap the rewards of the race and look around you to notice a clean house.

Well in any contest there is always a possibility of defeat, even if it is highly unlikely, it's still there.:sly:

Playing with my Lancer Evolution Rally '03 against Japanese Turbo cars was really cool at High Speed Ring... until I slow down so much and get overtaken and not being able to overtake back on the last lap...

stills... I'm playing the Enduro with a really average car (around 100HP below the average) in B-Spec so I can have some fun :)

One trick for the endurance race at indianapolis I used was to turn my wheel off (it needs to be calibrated then turned off) so the force feedback doesn't wear me out, and then i proped up my controller to keep the gas floored. Then I just sat back steering it with my fingers.

This.👍

It gets boring real quick when you know your going to win by 15+ laps.

👍 Sometimes in GT4 I'd just sit by the side of the track until I was a lap down and then played catch-up. Probably do that in GT5 as well when I get that far.

I also sometimes play a DVD movie on my computer (next to the tv in my office setup ) so I have two things to look at.

I did Grand Valley 300km last night. Took ~1h30mins, I used Formula GT as I was just trying to finish it fast as possible and level up (trying to get to level 30). The credits they give you for winning the race is horrible :grumpy:

Hahaha I did that a lot in GT4 enduros.

Could you imagine watching a race on TV and seeing a driver hit the same cone every lap to push it around the course?

We haven't read the same book.
From SUN TZU ON THE ART OF WAR

"11. What the ancients called a clever fighter is
one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease.

12. Hence his victories bring him neither reputation
for wisdom nor credit for courage.

13. He wins his battles by making no mistakes.
Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty
of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is
already defeated.
"

I have two TVs in my room, so I have one were I'm racing and one I channel serf. It works out well.

Yellow flag would be out the first lap in real life.

I haven't made it to enduros yet in GT5, but in 4 I would do the cone thing or try to use a car that was evenly matched to the AI.

for that Mazda endurance race i just raced hard for like 3hours and you can let the car sit there for a half hour for a nice break, or if you notice at the end the maximum laps the AI will do is right around 200, so as long as you complete 201-204 laps you can let your car sit for the last 35 minutes and still win in first.

I did this last night. Passed them all, and then just left it alone while catching up on old DVR'd shows - still a pain in the ass, but it works with a hopped-to-the-hilt Miata with a wing...and I only have 1 driver...

Btw, same TV with different inputs................................

I haven't gotten to the enduros yet, am I understanding from other people's posts that you don't have to cross the finish line once the time is up to finish? In the past you had to complete a lap once over the time limit to finish the race, no?

I had to complete the last lap once the 4th hour of the endurance has passed to finish the actual event.

Just reached level 28. YOOOO.

Automatic transmission, (automatic) accelerator pedal, force feedback OFF.

Here's a twist... racing with a manual gearshift WHILE pleasuring yourself, and the challenge is not to destroy the gearshifter...
