Endurance boredom tips?

I've used audio books in the past, they're easy to find online. You could always study another language on audio CD while racing and surprise yourself by speaking perfect Spanish at the end of the race!

This.

Check out the GT4 200 A-spec points sub-forum. There are guys there picking worse and worse cars from a PWR perspective and winning the enduro's by mere seconds in some cases. If you're always battling or having to modify your pit strategy as you go, then the time goes a lot quicker...

This is why I really miss the Aspec points for each race. You go in blind not knowing if it should be very easy or very hard. I know you can view which cars are in the lineup but it doesn't allow you to gauge how difficult the race will be like the points before each race in GT4 did.

I did the Indy 500 yesterday, while I was driving I watched Friends, The Simpsons, CSI and Indiana Jones :D Only took 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete : D

Usually i watch top gear, stand up shows, etc. on my lap top which i put below my tv. Not movies, because they require too much concentration. Something you can just watch without paying too much attention. One thing i hate though is that the XP is not very good compared to the time, and the money you get is just horrible. I don't get why they should be so badly rewarded. I just can't get my self to grind on them, because i can't just go and play COD black ops when i get bored, which i can if i do the Dream car championship.
I really hope make a save function and improve the rewarding, because it is just ridiculous.

I have a habit of trying to set faster laps each lap and listening to my mp3 player whilst driving. Also if doing a timed one, turn off the TCS and drift. :)

I will either listen to my iPod, or do PIP on the tv and have the sound on that, and glance over when I can.

If you're having to ask for solutions to boredom in something that's meant to be recreational you really have to question why you're doing it?

But, if you're set on doing them I'd say go for a car that's guaranteed to blitz the AI (no sense in making it close because how gutting would it be to lose) and mix it up between nailing your fastest lap times, practising drifting and doing some laps backwards :)

I just did the 24hrs of LeMans A-spec. Completed it in 37hrs. The thing that kept me going was trying to beat my best times. That and pulling over and watching some TV.
I do not own an iPod, laptop, or cd player. I only have 5 songs on my PS3 playlist. My desktop is in my upstairs bedroom. My TV does not do PiP.

Needless to say it was just driving.

my bro-in-law and i have a list of tasks for different laps. like one is don't touch a berm or wreck 3 cars, or change to cockpit view and turn on wipers. think up some different tasks for individual laps or entire races... it's pretty entertaining!

In my experience, it's often fun to stay back in the pack during an endurance race. Some interesting things often happen between/among the AI that I wouldn't see if I just demolished them. Ok, I have to admit that I'm also guilty of just messing with the AI. But, it makes the hours go a lot more entertaining.

It's funny, I couldn't wait to unlock the first endurance race at Level 25. Everything up to that point is just fooling around, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, I did do 24 hour races in GT4 at least 6 times, maybe more. (I'm talking doing all 24 hours myself, no B-spec help...) As well as doing every other endurance race at least twice.

Here here. I'm the same. Gonna do them all.

i just put a rubber band around my right stick to the up position and grind indy 500 with an x1.

i do the first 20 laps manually then pit. after that i let it wallride and the only input i need to do is to make it pit every 20 laps lol.

i have a dual monitor setup so i got the PC on one and the PS3 on the other so i can keep an eye on it.

usually playing HON while im grinding lol.

sometimes i hook up my other PS3 and just play madden 11 lol.

I'm currently on Level 26, trying to grind to 30 to get the X1. Just doing the 4-hour endurance with the roadsters and crap, and it's pretty damn boring.

What are your methods to pass the time while doing the endurance races?

I prefer to have a small snack beside me on a table, with water while I get thirsty (shown at the pic below). Maybe every hour I'll take a break to stretch my legs, or pleasure myself.

Wow. You did not just say that. Yes you did. Holy crap.

I have, on the right of the cockpit, a desktop computer. So I have the YouTube playlist of Mock The Week on autoplay so I can be entertained while doing 1 minute laps of Tsukuba for 4 hours. Just in-case I use that playlist on the 24h Nurburgring, the total time of the playlist is about 25 hours. :D

Feel free to share your methods~

First of all, I"m not sure it's a good idea to grind a 4-hour race. There's gotta be other events you can do if you're trying to get money that don't last this long?

But what I do to avoid boredom is I try and make sure I'm going to have an exciting race from start to finish. I do this by making sure I'm not using too much power and/or parts that are superior to the Ai. I'll often underdog my cars. I'll do a mock-race (15-20 laps or so) to see if I can keep up with the Ai, or if I'm going to blow them away, or if they're going to blow me away.

But to be honest, I never started GT4's version of this race. 4 hours around Tsukuba? And I'm being forced to drive a car that I know I can outhandle the Ai while driving? It just doesn't sound like fun. I'm hoping GT5's Roadster enduro is better.

Eh. I just try to beat my best lap time. Other than that I perform the PIT maneuver on the AI for the lulz. :)

I'm use the same technique as Medieval, though I try to find different "games".

1. The perfect lap. Can be done over and over again :D
2. Drift around the track. Try with comfort, sports and so forth
3. The pit manoeuvre is "fun" too.
4. Reverse though the pit.
5. How fast can you enter the pit.

I would love to hear more suggestions although the one with gaining as much leap as possible and then just wait for it to end sounded appealing.

Tips for the 4 hour Nurburgring

1. The Mines' Skyline is a great car for this. You might want to upgrade to the custom box and possibly the lowest turbo option.
2. 3 lap stints and never leave the pits with more than 50 litres (just knock 50 off whatever it says it's going to put in). Use Racing Hard Tyres.
2. Don't worry if the LM R8 and/or the Spoon S2000 whiz off into the distance, you'll be back on them after a pit stop or 2 because a) they run 5 lap stints when their tyres are shot through after 4 and a bit. b) they always brim the tanks on the stops.

Unless you're a driving god, you're still going to have to pay attention and drive good laps, although you can afford the occasional lapse.

Worked for me, anyway.

The problem is the AI is to slow. For example.. In the roadster 4 hr Enduro i used a stock Miata that i picked up from the UCD that was 40hp less than the second slowest car. I gave it some nice wheels, a paint job and a rear wing just so i could look at something pleasant during the 4 hours. The couldn't even keep up on the straight and at one point i crashed and got over a lap behind. Yet in the end i still won by over two laps. It doesn't sound like much but in an underpowered car and a whole heap of messing around once i caught back up to the lead. Im not exactly a good driver and i had just got my DFGT so it was a lot of fun and it definately helped me get used to using a wheel. Would have been nice to have more of a challenge though....

If you had a lady friend you would be able to continue driving while being pleasured. Or you could be giving pleasure.

Save in the pit every hour, and then go off and do some other stuff in GT5 and come back to the enduro at your leisure

Oh no sorry, PD didnt include that simple option :dunce:
