PD, how about this...

GT5 should allow a single "event save" across all A-Spec endurance and championship events.

The "event save" would automatically be triggered by a pit stop on endurance events and by the completion of an individual championship race for championship events.

That way, quiting the game (or crashing) mid race/championship only loses effort back to the most recent pit stop or completed race. The "event save" should be deleted as part of the event completion payout.

To resume, just load up GT5 and select an A-Spec Endurance or Championship event. The event should check to see if there is an active "event save" for ANY event and then notify the player that an "X event" is in progress and offer the player to resume with the "event save", start anew with the selected event (with "are you sure?" confirmations for start anew, of course), or cancel back to the menu.

This feature should be selectable in the game options, so that existing players that like it how it is now can turn the "event save" feature off and not have to deal with it.

Easy!

Saving during an endurance race defeats the point.

For the first 6 events I agree with you. But unless they let you use for B-Spec guys, it's not realistic to do the 9h and 24h events alone...

how do you play a 24 hours race??
And i've never left my ps3 on for 4 hours or more. And that was when i was playing nba2k11. this save feature is going to help alot of people out. its also your choice to use the save feature, you can still play the game like it was intended to(sitting in front of the tv for 9 hours or 24 hours)

Back in GT4, I just used to pause the game and turn the TV off. Took me a whole week to finish the 'Ring 4 hour race (I have kids).

Pausing just does't seem to work on GT5 - I pause, come back the next morning (I'm last to bed and first to get up so I know it's not human intervention) and the game has unpaused itself after 2-3 hours and my car is sitting against a wall on a 3 hour lap time!

Without champ/enduro saves, I would never bother even starting them because of my pause issue. Anyone else seeing this?

Wasn't this feature in GT4?

No.

What?

Are you sure no one or nothing is pressing the button? My PS3 was paused mid-race for 6 hours a few nights ago.

One person Driving for 24 hours straight is not realistic so it would defeat the realism the GT series is striving for. Instead of a pause or save I would have preferred they re-implement the use of Bobs during long races a la GT4. That was perfect imho.

So does pausing, using an X2010, driving anything other than an X2010 that is still not competitive, going to the bathroom anywhere other than your own pants, drinking a beer, eating a sandwich, answering the phone, talking to anyone without the use of a radio, not wearing nomex a helmet and a HANS device. The list can go on forever.

That's a little over the top.

Yea I know. Sarcasm lost in text I guess. Just trying to say that if some one is against the save feature because they feel it reduces realism than they better be advocating the rest of the list.

I for one am all for the save feature.

Guarantee no-one is doing any covert button pressing. Strange isn't it, and it happens every time. My theories are;

1 - network reset is causing a reaction in the game
2 - voltage spike/brown-out etc.
3 - faulty steering wheel

I'm ruling out #3 as it's the same wheel I used for GT4, unless the fault is recent...

Try making sure there are no controllers or wheels or any controlling devices attached or on, connected to your system.

How hard is it to understand that an endurance race is meant to test the endurance of the race car and NOT the driver. This is why endurance races use multiple drivers.

Indeed, and it's kinda why Endurances races are pointless and very boring in GT games. In the real world you have so many things to worry about whilst driving, knowing a crash could put you in the garage for three hours, or a puncture could set you back considerably amongst others. In GT5 with no damage and no mechanical failures it is just driving for 24 hours, there is none of the challenge and excitement that a real endurance race brings.

Good idea - I'll unplug the wheel tonight and hide the DS3 out of range. It's not a big issue for me at the moment as all the races I'm doing are relatively short.

Last night I was running my Ferrari F10 at Indy (trying to get the seasonals complete before they change) and got to lap 8 when my daughter woke up. Paused, went to bed, woke up 6.5 hours later to find my F10 against the wall on a 4 hour lap time so something happened at around 2am...

Will report back tomorrow on your suggestion.

turn off the DS3 or disconnect the wheel from the ps3, so you don't take any risks

The only thing that enduros in GT5 test is the PS3, because the "real racers" of GTP, don't want save but use pause, to get sleep or whatever, so the only difference on their way of racing enduros and mine is they keep PS3 ON and I will turn it OFF when save gets implemented

Simon, I think there's a limit to the realism required. Would you sit in front of your TV for three hours whilst the lads from GTAuto fixed up your Audi? No, but it you did, would you then continue in the race, knowing that your chance of victory had disappeared? I suspect the answer again is no.

If that were implemented in game, can you imagine how the forums (fora?) would light up? People get their knickers in a twist because of jaggy shadows - imagine the reaction to a gearbox failure after 22 hours :scared:

Strange...a discussion about saving in the middle of a race, and yet there is no war?:dopey:

Or is it the calm before the storm?

LOL - suspect that those that take on enduro's are of a calmer temperament than most

Of course, It would be nice to have the option though. If lengthy repairs were included they would of course have to set it up so that the time was auto skipped. I remember having Le Mans 24 Hours game on the PS2 years ago, I can't remember how realistic it was but I suspect it was better than GT5.

I just think with the way they are now they're not races, and they're not a test of endurance either. They're just driving for 24 hours. It's part of the reason I don't want to do them, the other is the lack of saving.

I've never had this problem, but I'm betting the button is getting pressed by accident by the cat or your kids or something. Try this: when you pause, don't leave the cursor on the 'resume' button, where it defaults to. Select the quick options menu, then select something (unimportant) in there so that it would take a few button presses to go back into the race. And hide your controller lol.
