Endurance race question

Say I'm so many laps ahead there's no way the difference could be made up within the time left, even if I stop. Does the race end or does time still have to run out? I'm guessing time has to run out but it would be nice if it didn't.
 
Yes the time has to run out and the race isn't over until everyone crosses the line after the time has expired.:)

When you, the leader, cross the finish line, you can decide to quit the race when the ranking appear, like any other race in the game
 
It would actually be quite the opposite of nice if it didn't.

PROTIP: Put the X1 away. Even Bob doesn't need it. That car is just for playing around.
