I am level 28 a-spec and doing Endurance Races now.
I completed the Grand Valley Speedway and Indy500 with my Vettel.
I will now attempt the four hour roadster, or Laguna one.

So how does the 4 hr roadster work?
Is it by time or laps or what?

Laps, I did 232 laps. Pretty boring in a that slow car >.>

Errr...no, it's by time, hence the 4hr. As soon as the timer reaches 4hrs the next time after that you cross the line it's race over.

If stay for 4 hours on the start line you won't win, so no it isn't by time. The one with the most laps after 4 hours wins, whatever.

It is by time. Obviously if you stay on the start line you won't win a race.

The winner is decided by who's done the most laps at the end of the 4hr time limit.

I take it you're just trying to "grind" through these races? B/c I'm failing to see how its fun to do these races with the X1 where you're more or less doing time trial laps for 60 laps. That sounds boring as hell.

Why not pick an competitive car and actually "race"?

Does it like count down from 4 hours?

And how many laps were you ahead by, if any?

There is a race timer that is shown in the top-right of the TV screen that counts time going forward from zero towards 4 hours, (once you cross the Start line to begin the race). Like nemesis01 says, once this clock reaches 4 hours, you then have to finish the lap you are on to win the race.

Also, once you get to the last hour of the race, there is a second timer that counts down to zero from 59 minutes, that is shown in the bottom-right corner of the TV screen (I didn't notice this timer until the last 30 minutes, but I assume that it was there from 59 minutes since I saw the same timer in the 9 hour Tsukuba race with 55 minutes to go).

When I ran the 4 hour Miata race, I ended up with a winning margin of around 2 laps over my nearest AI competitor. This is dependent upon the level of upgrades you throw at your own Miata.

Good luck,

To me, it might make sense to use the fastest car possible for a "lap" race. But, that just means that I leave those type of races to Bob. To me, they're a waste of time. The timed races are different, and I agree that it's more enjoyable to use a relatively equal car (and by equal, I mean that I could catch up with the "rabbit" if I make a mistake). By now, most players can simply buy or trade for the "rabbit" and use it in the race. It's fair, and you should always be able to beat a AI-Bob. I do wish there were 4 hr races for all the tracks.

One advantage of using an overpowered car for a timed race is to give yourself some rest time i.e. if you're 20 laps ahead halfway through, that that gives you a minimum 20 minute lead on Tsukuba. Park your car off-track somewhere. You can get up, relax, unwind, do some stretches, check the GTP forums, have a beer, etc... while the game's still running.

Return to the game after your little break, and just pick up where you left off. Sure, the race isn't any shorter, but at least you haven't spent the whole time mindlessly grinding through an endless amount of laps (unless of course you enjoy that kind of thing).

*snip*... I do wish there were 4 hr races for all the tracks.

I agree SJames052

I really wish there were another ten endurance races (between 2 and 4 hours long), using some of the other tracks, because then it would be possible to earn the coveted XP points without excessive grinding.

But, that's the thing; over-lapping the field 10x becomes mindless. It's cool and entertaining to play games with the AI, etc., but it still comes down to a grind. My point is that, if it's for the driving, there are more interesting things to do; and, if it's for the credits, it's far more efficient to let Bob do something else for four hours.

Yeah, I'm not complaining that PD didn't do it; but, it seems simple enough to simply include a 2 and/or 4 hour endurance race for all the tracks, and the same goes for 10->100 lap races. All that's really needed is to assign a credit and xp value to one lap or hour on every track.
Edit: I wonder if there's a way to put this as an option for online play?

Heya SJames, just in case you didn't know yet, there is a multi-quote button at the bottom right part of each forum post. Just click on it for each person you want to quote, then hit reply like you normally would. Now you will have quotes listed all in one post and don't need to double post :)

^that's good to know for the future. I wasn't aware of that either.

I did my first endurance race on Saturday, the Grand Valley 300km. Before even starting the race I spent an hour or so finding a comparable car to the competitition. To do that I looked at the list of potential competitors and then used one of those cars in the track in practice mode. Then I took note of the lap times and tried to find a car from my garage that I wanted to use in the race to have some fun with it. For this race I decided on the FT-86 with sport soft tires.

I ended up winning somewhat easily, with the 2nd place car one lap down ('01 NSX). Based on the speed advantage I had in the turns over the other cars in the race I'm guessing they were running on sport hard tires. If I had to do the race again I'd use sport hard tires instead.

Anyway, it was still fun and I was glad to finally do a race where tire wear is a factor and you had to pit!👍

Sure, but how about leaving the guy to play the way he wants?

Some people prefer TT'ing to racing AI. I know I do.

I didn't say anyone shouldn't do it. Different strokes. Besides, I said that using the overpowering car and tt-ing made sense for some races "to me."

i did that one a few weekends ago while the wife was out for the night, i cant see her wanting to watch me drive in circles for 2 1/4 hours. i used a 350Z. pitted after 20 laps and went from soft to hard tyres, f1 stylee to try and finish the race on the hards on a long stint but was 6/7 seconds a lap slower and was fighting to stay in 1st for about 10 laps. mis judged a corner, lost the lead and dropped back about 20 seconds. decided to take action, re pitted n swaped back to soft tyres and put in 20 banzii laps, eventually won by about 20 seconds.....great times :-)
